"If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets)" was released in April 1991 as the third single from Joe Diffie's debut album, A Thousand Winding Roads, and went on to become his second #1 hit on the country charts. Thanks to George Strait Junkie's initial near top 10 ranking, this song enjoyed a strong start, reaching its highest position early on. However, its time in the top half was short-lived, as it soon found itself on the outside looking in just as it entered the middle of its run. Although it did manage to make a brief return to the top half in the late stages, a third bottom 10 ranking from taylor is terrified pushed it back out.

Now that we've seen the Garth floodgates open up, let's find out whether one of these final couple of songs is his, or if he secures three songs in the top 50.

Stats for #52:
Although the upcoming song primarily lingered in the bottom 30 for the first half of its run, it managed to stay in or near the top half throughout the duration and seemed certain to secure a spot there until the final stretch. One participant loses a top 5 while another loses a bottom 5.

"Your Love Is a Miracle" was released in July 1991 as the fourth single from Mark Chesnutt's debut album Too Cold at Home, and peaked at number 3 becoming his fourth consecutive top 5 country hit. Despite being an initial contender in the bottom 30 (and even the bottom 10!), this song managed to make a significant leap toward the middle half of the rankings. It achieved this with a standout top 5 ranking from nuggie99. Shortly after, gardyfan added to its climb with a top 15 ranking, which propelled it into the top half for the first time. Just when it appeared that it might hold its place in the top half, taylor is terrified delivered a late bottom 20 ranking, sending this on the outside looking in of the top 50. This happens to be one of those early songs I vividly remember seeing the video for on CMT frequently, and I've cherished it ever since. No matter how many times I've heard it, I've never grown tired of it. While I wish it would've made the top 50, I'm happy to see it almost make it there.

Stats for #51:The last song to depart just falls short of making the top 50 by a mere one point! Its early exit is sure to raise eyebrows for some, given that not one, not two, not three, but four participants are losing a top 10 ranking, including someone's runner-up. Of the bottom 10s, all three are actually bottom 3s with two of those being runner-ups for last place . "Fallin' Out of Love" was released in May 1991 as the fourth and final single from Reba McEntire's sixteenth studio album, Rumor Has It, and reached #2 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart later that summer. As mentioned earlier, not one, not two, not three, but FOUR participants find themselves losing a top 10 ranking in this round, including the unfortunate loss of a top 2 spot from bboat11, who becomes the fourth participant to lose their runner-up choice. This might come as a surprise to some, as it initially started off strong but ended up mostly hovering just inside the top 60 for the middle portion of its run. Ultimately, it came to rest just one spot and one point short of the top 50. Despite the backlash they might face from the other Tractors, there were three participants who boldly ranked this song at the bottom, with sabre14 placing it in their bottom 3, and both nuggie99 and gardyfan selecting it as their runner-up for last place.

While four participants have had their runner-up choices eliminated, it's worth highlighting that none of the participants have seen their top-ranked song eliminated. Thus, I decided not to include a category for the highest-ranked remaining songs. Notably, both Alan Jackson and George Strait have maintained all four of their songs in contention, making them the final two artists with multiple songs who remain unscathed. On another note, nathanalbright still has seven songs from his bottom 10 rankings that are still in the mix . Meanwhile, someguy , bigd79 , bboat11 , and .indulgecountry 's last-place songs remain in the competition.

It's been pretty quiet thus far, so I'm going to hold off on any reveals for today and instead will showcase the next round of honorable mentions. Among them, I believe "What a Way to Go" by Ray Kennedy would have been an enjoyable addition, as it's a song I vividly recall hearing on the country radio during the early 90s.

Reveals will resume tomorrow! In the meantime, here's another showcase featuring additional hits from the year that were on the shortlist but, unfortunately, didn't quite make the cut in the rankdown. Of the songs included, I'd probably swap out Holly Dunn's "Heart Full of Love" for Kathy Mattea's "A Few Good Things Remain" as I much prefer the latter. Even then, I'm not entirely sure it would have avoided being in the bottom 10 here.

"I Got You" was released in January 1991 as the third single from Shenandoah's third studio album, Extra Mile, and reached number 7 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart becoming their ninth consecutive top 10 hit. This is the first of three songs from the group to exit with both "Ghost In This House" and "The Moon Over Georgia" remaining in contention. While it consistently held a position in the top half throughout its duration, it ultimately landed at its lowest rank in the final moments. Initially, it gained momentum as an early top 30 contender, thanks to a top 15 ranking by nathanalbright and a top 20 ranking by nuggie99. This was followed by another top 15 rating from gardyfan. Additionally, five more participants placed it comfortably in their top half, while five others positioned it in their bottom 30. Among those, I happened to be the lowest-ranking member, with this song teetering on the edge of my bottom 10. I probably underranked this song, but it only ended up near the bottom of my list mainly because it had slipped from my memory, overshadowed by some of the group's more popular hits from the same era. I found myself struggling to recall how the song went, necessitating repeated listens to commit it to memory. To sum it up, I never felt compelled to revisit it over the years, which is why it received a low ranking from me.

Originally recorded as a duet in 1987 by Keith Whitley and Earl Thomas Conley, the song wouldn't be released until August 1991 and concurrently appeared on Whitley's posthumous 1991 album Kentucky Bluebird and Conley's 1991 album Yours Truly. The song peaked at number 2 becoming the last Top 10 hit for both Whitley and Conley. In 1992, the song was nominated by the Country Music Association for Vocal Event of the Year and also earned them a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. Indeed, this song not only started as an early contender for the bottom 10, with someguy placing it in their bottom 5, but it also didn't break into the top half until the final quarter of its run. This late surge was aided by the inclusion of top 5 rankings from both gardyfan and CoJoFan. In total, seven other participants ranked it in their top half, while only three others placed it in their bottom 30. This happens to be another one of those songs that I vividly recall seeing the music video for frequently on CMT during my youth, which left a lasting impression on me. It likely served as my introduction to both Keith Whitley and Earl Thomas Conley, both of whom I continue to be fans of to this day.
