You've always had recent country male artists who could potentially have crossovers: Sam Hunt and Thomas Rhett coming most to mind. Morgan was part of that "will he/won't he club." Huge difference between these artists and the Aldean song.

apples and oranges though in terms of their response . Morgan showed contrition and remorse and he disappeared for a while . Jason continues to dig himself a bigger hole and demonstrating no self awareness . While I’m NOT defending what Morgan said , he definitely had a much better crisis management team. Not even Olivia Pope can rescue Jason now

That’s true they still play As It Was, Kill Bill and Creepin like every 10 mins. They even play Blinding Lights, Circles, Levitating, Heat Waves, Stay and every other huge hit of this decade so far on the regular. It’s even more justified now as old songs can become hits today.

Pop radio has always played recurrent hits and to be fair so does every other genre. Otherwise you'd get spammed with Cruel Summer and Vampire every 15 minutes.

When we complain about stagnant radio it's about them keeping stuff like Flowers on power rotation for 6 months. Once they go down to recurrent levels (i.e. under 3k spins-ish) it's fairly normal. And it's at least a bit more organic than the way some formats like country massively drop every song once it gets to #1.

K-POP underperforming isn't THAT surprising in the current climate

- Firstly, the song is severely mid. This is probably the biggest factor obviously. BUT... curiosity streams should've driven this to a much higher debut. Therefore some other questions need to be asked...
- Travis Scott had the Astroworld controversy, and even aside from that he was already declining in 2020 with Franchise bombing. It's not 2018/2019 anymore - people have been gassing him and Utopia up way too much
- The Weeknd's new work has been on a downward trajectory since Take My Breath. All of his recently released stuff has been flopping (save DFY remix, which is an old song) and The Idol doesn't help his image
- It's very early, but it _kind of_ seems like Bad Bunny peaked in 2022, and has shown signs of being replaced by Peso Pluma? His singles this year haven't been performing as well as last year. This could explain its floppage on YouTube as a platform

I think it's partially down to the decline in race relations, and I think in recent years white people have increasingly decided that they need to look out for their own rather than being "color-blind" like they used to be. There's no point in being "color-blind" if no other races are doing it.

I think all these are true to some extent. All the biggest rap hits of recent years are from 2020. Industry Baby has probably been the biggest to come after that and it was more of a pop hit than rap.

Unrelated note, but I'm I the only one that just wants Abel to go away completely......for at least three and a half years again? "After Hours" era was a huge success, dominating the entirety of 2020 which then lasted all the way till the summer of '21. Yeah, still frustrating Grammys completely snubbed the masterpiece of an album for whatever f-cking reason. But ever since that era ended, and "Take My Breath" was released as the lead single for "Dawn FM", he's just been releasing or jumping on songs that sound like cheap "After Hours" tracks and riding out the remnants of said album for nearly 4 years now! This of course results radio to keep it months(or years) on end. If that was what the public really wanted then why did they let "Dawn FM" flop but pull all the way back to "Starboy" and made a track that was originally planned to set off throughout Winter 2017/2018 his latest big hit?

You are not the only one. I feel he has over stayed his welcome. I would love for The Weeknd to take a 2-3 year hiatus. Not only is his music overplayed, I don't feel he is bringing anything new creativity to the table. He is over saturated.

Where in the heck is Bruno Mars? He is long overdue for a solo single. Other artists such as Drake, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber all need more time away.
