Abel has a very loyal core following that consistently streams his tracks giving them insane longevity, but his true strength is making pop audiences listen to rap tracks and urban audiences listen to pop tracks. He doesn't have big debuts but him on a feature always spikes a song up considerably, probably the most consistently out of any artist as a feature because of that rule. Bad Bunny meanwhile opens the track to a completely new audience, and his features also consistently do great, especially worldwide. Travis himself at one point (or twice I believe? With HITR and Stargazing) actually held the record for biggest debut in the US. I wasn't necessarily thinking about how strong these artists generally debut, as much as about how many different audiences they open the track to.

This however made me realize something else - the instant replay value of a song is probably the key factor a song needs for a record-breaking debut, and that, in other words, is the reception it initially gets. As you mentioned, the reception for K-Pop wasn't great, so it underperformed, because people didn't play it on repeat

Dial Drunk and Super Shy over 1M is cool to see. Despite all the controversy, I'm glad the charts finally feel alive again. It's been a slow first half of the year.

Mind Your Business didn’t debut top 200 on Spotify? Not good. At least the charts should be getting more competitive like they were in January/February. Given K-POP underperformed and Jason Aldean’s song already peaked, I think Last Night has a good path to number one.

K-pop flopped. It debuted #2 on Global Spotify and it barely got #1 on US Spotify. Even on Apple Music it is #4. It is not get to #1 on Billboard at all. So ironic that a kpop song is outperforming it globally.

Not every song by major artists is going to become a huge hit and that’s okay. What I meant by K-POP underperforming is that it is not a contender for number one like some, including myself, expected. UTOPIA should do well, maybe 200k, but post incident, without Kylie, and in an era when rap is not as popular, it just won’t reach ASTROWORLD’s numbers.

Yeah I think Britney career in scoring successful hits died over a decade ago. She'll probably score minor hits like "Hold Me Closer" (which was just pointless mashup). But still, I think her career is pretty much over when comes to scoring new hits.

Yeah, but we are not talking about Olivia Rodrigo this time. It's a song by Travis Scott 5 years after Astroworld and features the two biggest male artists on Spotify right now, and with all the promotion and playlist placement that those names deserve. Vampire did better and went #1 on the Hot 100, this song will be quite far from it and in my opinion the expectations were fair.

Travis also has three #1 singles besides Sicko Mode, which stayed in top 10 for a total of 6 weeks. His popularity in music singles charts is considerably lower than his popularity in music community. Sicko Mode had crazy run but that was the year of Drake. And even though The Weeknd is a radio darling not all of his tracks go to the top, so this result isn't even a surprise. Austin/Abel collab wasn't even a top 5 track, despite their huge streaming and the fact that Circles and Blinding Lights topped the radio chart for 3/4 of 2020.

I find K-Pop to be rather mid considering it is a collaboration amongst three big names currently in the industry.
