If one way or another Cruel Summer made it to #1, I think that means that Taylor will have six albums in a row that have a #1 hit (Red to Evermore). Is there any longer streak? I think maybe Mariah in the 90s but I'm not sure

Last time I coped about Cruel Summer becoming a single on the first day of summer and it happened. So time to cope again.

Cruel Summer (Live from the Eras Tour) released on iTunes as well of course & a cute lil Tour video with fans screaming the bridge; Literally a layup.

What happened to all the energy to get Willow to 1; to TRY and push Me! to 1; to get Lavender Haze back to the top 10; ANTI HERO WEEK TWO??? Where’d the capitalism go Taylor?

The one time she’d get a number one from a song that actually climbed the charts AND get her to double digits of number ones… it’s radio silence 😭

It depends on how you count this actually, whether greatest hits albums, live albums are included, etc. Interestingly with Mariah, if all albums are counted, she would also have a streak of 7 albums from Mariah Carey to Butterfly (including her MTV Unplugged album and Merry Christmas).

If you count the rereleases then Fearless TV breaks her streak. And Lover does need a #1 in any case because it's squarely in the middle between her pop domination and her recent resurgence on the Hot 100.

RED -> 1989 -> reputation. -> Lover (still no #1) -> folklore -> evermore -> Fearless TV (no #1) -> RED TV -> Midnights -> Speak Now TV (no #1).

Yes, I think we know that, but the temperature is supposed to be in the high 90s here all week (over 100 when factoring in the heat index). Summer is definitely still going. If a song were to reference the heat and such, it's most certainly still applicable regardless of Billboard.

Related (or perhaps not), I ask this as a serious question; what's "cruel" about the summer in Swift's song? Today is the first day I really paid attention to the lyrics, and it seems to be about meeting someone and, um, getting to know them. I'm not sure where the cruel part comes in?

I only counted albums, and Mariah scored at least one #1 from her first 7 albums (Merry Christmas included), Glitter was her first album without a #1 song.

Yeah but she also had her #1's greatest hits album released in between Butterfly and Rainbow, which ironically itself didn't produce a new #1, despite two of its three new songs being released as singles, so it all goes back to what criteria you choose and what types of albums you are considering for the record in question (whether to include greatest hits compilations, holiday sets, EPs, mixtapes, etc.). MTV Unplugged was just an EP and contained mostly previously released songs sung live, so that in a sense can't be considered an "album" either, so it all gets really dicey.
