I didn’t even think he was going re-enter inside the Top 50. Country music is just that big in 2023. song is country but it actually peaked higher on the Hot 100 and ac . Hot 100 #8 ac #1 country #13 He’s an interesting case study for this chart thread - he’s a musician who is INSANELY influential on pop culture with relatively minimal chart success. I don’t buy the arguments made here about touring showing the hot 100 to be useless lol (why would we be here if the Hot 100 wasn’t incredibly important), but Jimmy Buffett is one of the best cases to show that Hot 100 success ≠ overall success

^Actually, they do some version of it, but yes they don't make it easy to find:
Hmm, this if from 2019, so I don't know if they publish them anymore. This would probably be problematic as hell and hard to calculate, but I wish there was a way to get a Gay Hits genre chart. Probably the dance charts get close to that, but I know a lot of my friends look at the Hot 100 confused because songs they’ve never heard hit #1 (all this country) while massive hits in the gay community (Padam springs to mind) miss the chart entirely. I thought of that too, and this would be cool to have, as it definitely seems a large percentage of Billboard chart-watchers are LGBTQ+, but like you say it could be hard to define and calculate and might even be a bit controversial. Like, what makes a song "gay"? Lol

At some point Spotify/Billboard could trace every stream to someone’s demographics and make charts for subgroups. Like a chart based on gay listeners or the biggest songs within each race or gender. It may be unethical (they do track demographics for elections though) but I’m obsessed with data so I would find it interesting. Even a chart by state/city/college campus would be super cool. Gay hot 100 would be full of bangers.

You have to look at all the charts to get a complete picture, especially in older eras without streaming or all airplay formats included. Led Zeppelin only had one top ten single but they had 7 number one albums. They weren't a singles band and their fans didn't really buy singles. The Hot 100 and the Billboard 200 reflect this. George Strait had dozens of number one country singles and platinum albums but rarely cracked the Hot 100 before 1998. Even today a song can get hundreds of millions of streams over the course of a year or two but never receive enough in a single week to chart. It doesn't mean the song's not popular OR that the charts are inaccurate.
The Hot 100 is just one way of gauging popularity, nothing more and nothing less.

A "gay" chart would be inaccurate because a huge chunk of the population will not openly state their sexuality, difficulting the way they could segment all the data.
Plus Billboard already can't really even tell if it's the same person buying 58 copies of Rich Men North of Richmond, let alone if they're part of the LGBTQ community.

rest in peace to Steve Harwell of Smash Mouth - I didn’t think anything would renter but I’m kinda shocked that All Star is closing in on a billion Spotify streams so I wouldn’t rule it out?

A Luke Combs has all the chances now but I guess he's too kind for not pushing FC too hard for number 1 to avoid overpowering the original version.

It's on the verge of being dropped on pop radio, and may begin to lose even more country radio judging by yesterday's update. The chance is already gone.

If Doja Cat is #1 and Luke Combs is #2, I think "Fast Car" will break the record held by "Live and Let Die" for the #2 that was kept from #1 by the most different number ones, four - "Last Night," "Rich Men North of Richmond," "I Remember Everything," and "Paint the Town Red" (Luke wasn't at #2 when "Seven" and "Try That in a Small Town" hit the top).
Also, "Paint the Town Red" will give Burt Bacharach a 7th number one song, over 37 years after the last time he did with "On My Own" by Patti Labelle anbd Michael McDonald (and 7 months after his passing), and Hal David a 4th number one, 53 years after his last time at the top with "(They Long to Be) Close to You" by the Carpenters.

but Jimmy Buffett is one of the best cases to show that Hot 100 success ≠ overall success Sure, but I don't think even one person on this board has said the Hot 100 is the only measure of overall success. We all recognize albums, tours, social media, etc are all measures as well. He’s an interesting case study for this chart thread - he’s a musician who is INSANELY influential on pop culture with relatively minimal chart success. I don’t buy the arguments made here about touring showing the hot 100 to be useless lol (why would we be here if the Hot 100 wasn’t incredibly important), but Jimmy Buffett is one of the best cases to show that Hot 100 success ≠ overall success okay, this is probably embarrassing, but I've never heard of Jimmy Buffett (RIP) and when I first saw the "Margaritaville" title, I thought it was a TV show or something...and I decided to check it out, but it doesn't ring a bell - so suppose I shouldn't try with the other songs since this one is his signature? I guess this is how my American friends feel when they say they haven't heard of Robbie Williams, who basically marked 90s and 00s in Europe with Take That and his solo work. Jimmy was the first concert I went to! My parents took a friend and I when we were in middle school. Anyway he was sort of known as a country artist early on, but I don't think his music was truly country. I'd say he was very influential in leading country music toward incorporating island/beach music into its sound though (someone like Kenny Chesney is a direct descendent of Jimmy Buffett, but so are songs like Zac Brown Band's "Toes" and Garth Brooks' "Two Pina Coladas"). Anyway "Margaritaville" is his most famous song, and it became his brand as he had a restaurant chain (and maybe hotels) named that as well. Some other faves of mine in that same style are "Changes In Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes" and "Son of a Son of a Sailor." Some more upbeat/fun songs of his would be "Fins," "Cheeseburger in Paradise," and "Volcano." More downbeat/contemplative songs would be "A Pirate Looks At Forty" and "Come Monday."

Margaritaville update: fell to 28 with 600,000 US Spotify streams. It'll fall hard this week (also the end of American popular summer was Monday, and he's a summer anthem). I hope it had enough of a head start to re-enter, but we'll see what the tail is like.

but Jimmy Buffett is one of the best cases to show that Hot 100 success ≠ overall success Sure, but I don't think even one person on this board has said the Hot 100 is the only measure of overall success. We all recognize albums, tours, social media, etc are all measures as well. okay, this is probably embarrassing, but I've never heard of Jimmy Buffett (RIP) and when I first saw the "Margaritaville" title, I thought it was a TV show or something...and I decided to check it out, but it doesn't ring a bell - so suppose I shouldn't try with the other songs since this one is his signature?
Not to mention the song he collaborated with them on, Knee Deep, probably one of my favorite songs of all time!

Tbh, I only know Jimmy Buffett's name just because of that one South Park episode, lmfao.......

It seems like even Barbz have given up on Nicki's new single already? Down to #15 on iTunes. Seems like it's going to miss a top 20 debut at this point.
The song was definitely filler and album track vibes though. Once again, she is just horrible with choosing singles.

How would a LGBT Billboard sub chart even be measured? by inches. Well then it would definitely be inaccurate…

Fourth single from the unreleased album with WAP as the lead single? It would be genius if she just kept racking up #1 singles and then throw them all on a project making it one of the most streamed albums in history the first day it comes out.
