I don't think that should matter. Doja Cat isn't a new artist at this point. She's got more hits than Olivia Rodrigo and I believe she's a more recognizable name in the US as a result of that. The fact remains that out of the 4 songs off her album she's released so far, only 1 of them has gotten any sort of traction in the US and 3 out of those 4 songs were released with music videos, so you can't say zero promotional effort was put into them.

I'm not saying that spells doom for the entire album era, just that she's shooting 1/4 right now and it makes me wonder if she'll score any other hits off the album. It'd be one thing if the other 3 songs simply weren't pulling enough US streams to chart on the Hot 100, but none of them are even on the respective Spotify US/Apple Music US charts. That's notable.

The only real difference between a promo single and an actually pushed single is radio. If people really had gravitated towards Attention, Demons, and Balut, they would've. Need to Know and Streets weren't actively promoted singles either and they caught on.

I really hope the album manages to score other hits outside of PTTR because it'll only last so long as a hit. Doja Cat is yet to reach the point where she can do without hit records to have an album be successful, especially long term.

Hot Pink has several hits and hasn't charted on the Billboard 200 in months and Planet Her is her biggest album yet and also contains several hits but is struggling to maintain a spot in the top 100 of the Billboard 200.

I think the bar you guys are setting for Doja is too high. Not everyone is Drake or Taylor Swift to sustain a top 100 spot on the BB200 for years and that's ok. Their focus right now is clearly PTTR and it's about to go back to #1. For a while there it looked like she was going to have to perform "Say So" at birthdays forever and now she's got a dozen or so hits.

Agora Hills is gonna be the next single apparently and they wisely saved it for album release week.

I still don't love the creative direction she took for this project and PTTR is the only track I have any sort of use for, but the fact that she turned this relatively controversial hype into a #1 bodes well for her. (And she can always go back to Poppier stuff if the album fails to do much).

25s 3.38 million pure sales broke all sorts of records, short of the CITW 97 3.45 million the single sold in 1st week. Sales have died substantially in the 8 years since 25. Anything's possible, as Taylor is the biggest star by far in music right now. If anyone can, it's Swift. But I have a hard time seeing anything going over 2 million now. 25 was 3.48 SPS as Hello was the only song available for download/streaming when Adele released 25. So maybe 1989 could do 1.5 million pure & 2.25 million SPS. That's just me though.

Sales were dead in 2015 too. I think they’ve actually increased since then (physicals) plus streaming has more backing behind it.

There are a lot of "big" albums coming out basically weekly until the end of the year. Should be a super interesting Q4. Some of my faves/or ones that I expect to do some chart damage lol also idk if all dates are accurate, I havent double checked.

I am excited for the new Staind album this week - their first album in over a decade. Also we have blink 182 finally confirmed this week with the first with Tom in a decade as well. Plus new Rolling Stones - hey, my dad is excited! lol

No idea what to expect from the Ed album, but I like he is keeping going with his output. doesn't matter if he never gets a hit again, he already built a massive legacy. But this seems to be more acoustic based and what his fans want? Maybe there will be a surprise hit.

I had almost forgotten Dolly's rock album. Really curious to hear that one! Jimmy Buffet's final(?) album as well. Wonder if people will turn out for that?

The album is full of original material (with 2 cover songs) that he recorded through out 2022/2023 and his team said the album was completed in the summer prior to his death

It’s been the slowest of burns, but “Snooze,” the swaying mid-album highlight from SZA’s blockbuster SOS, has grown into the album’s second smash hit, following the Billboard Hot 100-topping “Kill Bill.” The song has now spent 13 weeks atop Billboard‘s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, and hit a new peak of No. 7 on the Hot 100 a few weeks ago (on the chart dated Sept. 9), following the release of its captivating and star-studded music video. And now one of those guest stars — pop superstar Justin Bieber — might help the song rise even higher on next week’s chart, thanks to his appearance on the song’s new acoustic version.

With the debut of “Snooze (Acoustic)” on Friday (Sept. 15), the total official on-demand U.S. streams for “Snooze” (which includes the new acoustic version) has jumped to 12.1 million for the four-day period of Sept. 15-18, up from 7.5 million streams during the same period the week before (Sept. 8-11) — a gain of 61%, according to Luminate. (The song also more than doubled in sales, from 800 to 1,700). TikTok Snippet Campaign Nets Big Streaming Returns for Tate McRae’s “Greedy”

After several weeks of teasing, Tate McRae’s “Greedy” has debuted to immediately sizable streaming returns. According to Luminate, the breezy, self-assured pop track – which marks McRae’s first solo release in almost a year – collected over 6.3 million official on-demand audio streams during the period of September 15-18, pulling over 1.2 million streams each day. The song enjoyed a total of 1.99 million streams on its first full day of release.

“Greedy” is a successful example of a concerted TikTok-focused promotional plan. Instead of getting carried to success by a random runaway trend, McRae steadily teased snippets of “Greedy” for weeks on end, dating back to August 4. “Oh s—t, u guys want this one?” she cheekily captioned the post, which has since garnered over one million likes and 8.1 million views on the platform. Between the track’s melodic nod to Nelly Furtado and Timbaland’s “Promiscuous” and lyrics that flaunt tongue-in-cheek self-confidence, “Greedy” quickly went viral on TikTok, spawning tens of thousands of videos of users lip-syncing their favorite lines – particularly the lyric “Obvious that you want me, but I said/ I would want myself/ Baby, please believe me.” McRae encouraged her fans’ use of the snippet by stitching their videos and cheering them on.

Several different TikTok sounds – all with over 30,000 posts each – went viral on the platform, with a slightly sped-up version gaining the most traction (105,900 posts). The track’s official music video, which features choreography from Sean Bankhead, garnered over 1.8 million views in five days.

Already having reached the top 10 of both US Apple Music Pop and Spotify Global, “Greedy” is shaping up to be a particularly successful single for McRae. At the very least, the early numbers have proven that McRae, RCA label head Peter Edge and Sony Music CEO Rob Stringer made the right decision in choosing to push “Greedy.” – KYLE DENIS
