Flowers still gets a lot of AC airplay. Last Night doesn’t. With AC stations beginning to switch to Christmas music 01 November this will affect Flowers audience totals. Fast Car will begin dealing with the same issue, so it could fall below Last Night.

Depends on how one chooses to look at it really, and whether the TVs count as the same album. Technically speaking, they’re different…but also the same. So if it were in the record books or something, it would certainly deserve a footnote.

Applying consistency with Billboard, they are new albums on Billboard 200 and new songs on Hot 100 for record purposes. Altogether, they are new full length projects. Therefore a streak would have to include them.

Also for what it’s worth, they have completely brand new songs which charted too.

I agree. I also think Lavender Haze was released too early as well. Anti Hero was still huge when LH began to climb.

We didn't say she doesn't care about charts, but that it seemed that she didn't seem to care about doing anything to help this specific song on the charts after it was gp forced into being a single after 4 years

For me at least - I really don't care about when artists put out an alternate version if they are within that range of #1 but can't quite reach it, especially when so many songs now are peaking in streams and radio at different times. PTTR, DFY, and KB all needed some last minute tactics to hit #1 but they were already bonafide smash hits before it so it made sense. When songs such as Like Crazy are hitting #1 just from sales and then completely collapse it becomes a little much lol.

Yeah imo its much more “meh” to do this if you’re completely outta the number one race and are throwing shit at the wall and praying it pushes you up. But when you’re the front runner or neck and neck, eh so be it, the other song will eventually get to number one anyway (With how much gas Taylor threw mid-week and 1989 cooking next week, that may not be true here.)

Counting only brand new albums she's gotten one from 7 albums in a row (RED, 1989, reputation., Lover, folklore, evermore and Midnights). The TVs are tricky because they are both re-releases but also new albums so... who knows. It's not some major record to have so many #1s anymore, especially in an era where huge names like Drake and Ariana can usually count on an automatic #1 with their new albums with little effort. If anyone on that level wants to have 10 consecutive #1 lead singles they probably can with ease.

Rihanna could probably do it but I'm starting to think her time of an easy #1 debut on comeback has passed. Not only was her little return last year truly boring and half-assed, but ANTI is nearing the 8 year mark and people have probably moved on. All of this is bullshit if she comes with a major banger (or if she truly never bothers to come back into music). Adele has three in a row so far but by the time she drops four more albums she'll be like 96 and most of her fanbase will be well into their 100s if still somehow alive lol.

I mean it's also weird when people only support a song to prove a point (the Jason Aldean track), instead of organically liking it and consuming it in the ways that Billboard tracks. Sales are just the easiest metric to game right now.

I don't see an easy way out of it without taking out sales entirely which is not happening. And stanbases are getting better and better at stream farming.

Hmm, Cruel Summer only increased by 9000 plays on Spotify from Tuesday to yesterday (1,094,000 streams vs. 1,103,000). And I'm assuming they combine all versions correct? I know the alternate versions were released towards the end of the day, but I was expecting a larger increase, unless for some reason they didn't count yet. Anyways, we should be seeing a bigger increase tomorrow.

Most of the criticisms of BTS “#1 songs” I seen are far from the quality of any of these songs. Cuz there definitely far from being bad and are more good or are just generic K-Pop songs at best. It’s the way there getting to the top and their toxic fanbase that repeatedly keep pretending that all 330 million Americans are dancing to them, and keeping using the same bullshit excuse of “xEnOpHeBiC” and “rAcIsM” when you point to the very obvious reasons on why these songs are flopping hard after they debuted at the top with 100k sales and zero to No Airplay with very mid streaming that completely leaves after a couple of weeks. And in some cases, they will dox and harass you all because you pointed this fact out (And I thought Barbz were worst).

I talked about this before, and I speak for myself (and possibly for a lot of posters in this thread), I only want the Hot 100 to be as accurate as possible, nothing else. Yes, artists can do whatever they want, totally legit because the Billboard sets the rules, but I also think we have the right to complain about it - and even that became tiring tbh.

That being said, I don't see a problem with Cruel Summer. It was really close so many times, and before those 'chart tactics' it was ahead of PTTR based on predictions. Also, I get it's weird to see a #1 with like 200 points, but again, it's not Taylor's fault. Go stream some WW smash hits like greedy, Prada, Water, Strangers, or songs like get him back and Agora Hills.
