For Dec.24, "Rockin'..." extended its lead, with No. 2 "Jingle Bell Rock" trailing by 916,947. The gap between "Rockin'..." and No. 3 "All I Want..." was 1,249,961. We have no idea what the differences are on Apple Music, where "Jingle Bell Rock" is also No. 2, though with the Spotify 1 and 3 reversing positions. Would be nice if Apple (and Amazon, for that matter) posted charts with numbers, a la Spotify. I had no idea you were such the Brenda fan, HolidayGuy! |

^While there's the ittiest-bittiest of chances you were being sarcastic (shocker, right?)...  I've loved the song for decades now- see the thread I started in the Holiday section in 2005. It was exciting to see it hit No. 1 this year. My mom, who passed in 2008 at 64, was a Brenda fan, as that was her generation, though I appreciate her. "I Want to Be Wanted" for instance, is pure magic. "Rocki'..." topped 6 million U.S. Spotify streams on Christmas day. "Jingle Bell Rock" cracked 5 million, and "All I Want For Christmas is You" topped 4.5 million. Not sure how that compares to last year, off-hand. Globally, holiday streaming dropped on Christmas day, though I imagine that's happened in previous years. |

^Why compare, though, and not just enjoy both? You know, it is OK for the wealth to be spread around. As much as we may enjoy Mimi's song (which is great), it gets a bit boring seeing the same chart result year in and year out. Even some of the biggest lambs were happy to see "Rockin'..." hit No. 1. One of my complains about holiday songs has been seeing the same songs reach the same/similar peaks annually in recent years- at least there was some shakeup this season.
On a related note- "Rockin'..." trailed "All I Want..." on Spotify in previous years. Did the biggest playlist not exist until two or three years ago?

No particular reason for not posting as yes, "Rockin'..." continues to fare well. AIWFCIY was expected to return to the top for Dec. 23, so that's one of those "boring" moments, as it had been there 12 times prior.  I imagine the Jan. 6 chart could go to either RATCT or AIWFCIY. The latter will have the slight airplay and sales advantage, while the former may lead slightly in streaming. The weighting of paid-account vs. free-account streams could make the difference; on last season's final Streaming Songs chart, RATCT had slightly less streams than AIWFCIY, though hit No. 1. I've also been keenly watching the showing of "DJ Play a Christmas Song," as Cher has not scored a pop top 40 or Hot 100 entry in two decades and change. |

Just going off last year, Iβd expect Brenda to take No. 1 this week. Last year, this particular tracking week was the closest Brenda got because Mariah wasnβt able to build as big a radio or sales edge because of the limited days in the tracking week where people are listening to Christmas music on the radio or purchasing.
With the number of Spotify streams jumping up this year compared to last (as has happened every year recently), Brendaβs advantage being on the Christmas Classics playlist while Mariahβs isnβt gets magnified with each year that streaming increases and becomes a bigger share of chart points. What we donβt know is just how much streaming may be increasing on other platforms and if that helps Mariah offset the Spotify deficit. But based on last year, Iβd expect Brenda to have No. 1 this week

I still think there's a chance for Santa Tell Me to reach the top 10, it already surpassed last week's Spotify streams (9,3M) and it re-peaked at #4 on AM.π€

Just going off last year, Iβd expect Brenda to take No. 1 this week. Last year, this particular tracking week was the closest Brenda got because Mariah wasnβt able to build as big a radio or sales edge because of the limited days in the tracking week where people are listening to Christmas music on the radio or purchasing. With the number of Spotify streams jumping up this year compared to last (as has happened every year recently), Brendaβs advantage being on the Christmas Classics playlist while Mariahβs isnβt gets magnified with each year that streaming increases and becomes a bigger share of chart points. What we donβt know is just how much streaming may be increasing on other platforms and if that helps Mariah offset the Spotify deficit. But based on last year, Iβd expect Brenda to have No. 1 this week and as more Gen X'ers like myself discover Spotify, means the gap will widen even further. Because really, what Gen Z or Millennial is listening to Xmas music from 1940-1980? |

I've loved the song for decades now- see the thread I started in the Holiday section in 2005. It was exciting to see it hit No. 1 this year. My mom, who passed in 2008 at 64, was a Brenda fan, as that was her generation, though I appreciate her. "I Want to Be Wanted" for instance, is pure magic.
