What does super recurrent mean? Now that it hit 52 weeks, Snooze would need to fall below the top 25 to go recurrent and exit the charts.

This Brenda thing is getting annoying now. What has she to gain from her borderline-pedophilic song going number 1? She has already broken whatever records she needed to break and now she needs to go sit in the corner and silently drink her eggnog.
Mariah needs to come up with a better strategy next year, I don't feel she put in much effort this year. It wont be too long before billboard decides to change the rules again.

Playlisting matters. Itβs evident when you compare the two across other platforms how well Brenda does by being first on classic playlists. Who decides which song goes first anyway? Mariah did a quite successful tour this year so that seemed to be the focus. And when she lost out on number one, she started selling signed copies of the single at the shows. So her team must be well aware of what is happening but letβs see what they do about it. They seem to focus on other platforms to make up the difference in streams, but that clearly isnβt enough. At this point, Spotify can make RATCT the biggest hit of all time in the next few years if they choose to.

It's not that serious to be melting down over a 79 year old having a hit song and calling it an ode to child predators. Mariah has about a billion weeks topping the chart in her lifetime.

Indeed, firdayteenage. I guess some really don't like change- at least when it comes to the Hot 100 being shaken up slightly at this time of year. Gawd forbid.
And then there were three on U.S. Spotify:
109 (-74)- Rockin'Around the Christmas Tree, 354,171 191 (-114)- Last Christmas, 295,155 198 (-126)- All I Want For Christmas is You, 292,621

2024 is 30th Anniversary of 'Merry Christmas.' Expect huge promo so AIWFCIY will nab more weeks at #1.
The real goal should be to issue enough vinyl variations to finally push MC to #1 on B200.

It took too long for them to do it, but really, the Spotify thing puts her at a huge disadvantage. Iβm not sure what she should do.

Brendaβs streams have been exploding every year. Mariah barely squeaked by last season. There is nothing to indicate that her lead will not continue to grow.

Separate from any one artist/song specifically, I don't understand why there isn't a 'Modern Christmas Classics' playlist on Spotify for songs from 1980-2020. 'Christmas Classics' is huge and really helps the older songs on the Hot 100. Having a playlist for the next 40 years is just logical and I think would be popular, and then there would be a playlist with songs like "Last Christmas," "Santa Tell Me," Underneath the Tree," and yes "AIWFCIY," that doesn't include the older songs. It could also potentially shake some things up on the Hot 100 (might help Jonas Brothers go top 40, Ariana and Kelly go top 10, would help "Last Christmas" get top 3).
Re: "RATCT" specifically, it has been growing each season the past few years at a bigger rate than "AIWFCIY," so I don't know why that would suddenly change next year other than it will be the 30th anniversary for "AIWFCIY" so that will likely bring attention and promotion. But really, as long as 'Christmas Classics' is so huge I more so see "RATCT" pulling away even more, and could see "Jingle Bell Rock" getting to #2 within a few years.

I get the impression there was generally a "let's give Brenda a turn" vibe this year, and Mariah was not nearly as cutthroat as some of these fans, and was very gracious about it (some of these "fans" could learn a thing or 2 from Mariah's very kind congratulations to Brenda when she hit #1). But I could see Mariah next year saying, "ok, I'm gonna reclaim this for good" and being a lot more aggressive about finding ways to keep the song on top. I also doubt Brenda will repeat the effort she put in this year, there's really no incentive for her to do so now that she's had her moment on top.

Truthfully, I was worried Mariah would be entirely shut out this season... the two weeks at #1 I don't think any fan of hers should take for granted! The gap has been steadily closing every year.
And also, I've been reading things on this board for a very long time... one frequent poster here absolutely HATED that she went to #1 with DFAU and especially TMB. I remember it like it was yesterday... but here we are still talking about Mariah 14 years later while other artists ruined their faces and got hideous, lopsided butt implants... Mariah is doing just fine!

Playlisting aside, it seems the GP is starting to turn a leaf on All I Want for Christmas is You. And by the GP I mean a very small population because it's obviously still huge. It's bound to happen to a song that people keep coming to every single Christmas. It was only a matter of time before Brenda took the #1 spot -- it just happened to be this year.
I don't expect AIWFCIY to go into obscurity, of course. But I think it will no longer be the surefire #1 it has been.
With that said -- I still do hope Billboard does something about Christmas songs on the Hot 100.

So what should Billboard do with Christmas songs?
The popularity of Christmas songs is not Billboard's fault.
