I like the sound of the clip, I haven't heard it before yet. Idon't understand what the very last line means lol . Is that what people are questioning? I've never heard of that saying or a mix of words before Golden retrievers are associated with easy-going loyal natures… though in this case comparing someone to a dog is almost surely meant to be an insult haha. Basically that he’s mindless and easy to figure out. It's not my favorite line at all, but even I got what she was saying. Sadly this is gonna be one of those things the people I was referencing (you know those miserable souls looking for any small detail to tear her down over) are gonna have a field day with and use to discredit her as a songwriter completely (while they ignore the fantastic lyrics throughout the rest of the album). Smh. I hate the internet. lol

I assumed this was fake because of the sudden tense change and, just, the nonsense of it all. It’s real!

I haven't heard 'TTPD' yet but I will not stand here for the hatred of 'Midnights'. I must be one of the only ones who loves the album because all I am seeing lately is hate for it. It's weird because my first impression (and subsequent lasting impression) was that Midnights was mid lol except the more time that passed, the more it grew on me. I still don't LOVE it but I enjoy the general moodiness of it. Maroon, You're On Your Own Kid, Midnight Rain, Question, Mastermind. They're all great! I think I just spent too much time focusing on how much I didn't care about Bejeweled or how underwhelmed I was with Vigilante Shit.

Sonically, I do like that snippet of the lyric in question. Especially as the very first thing I’m hearing from the album.

Midnights is one of my least favorite Taylor albums, NGL. The first half is strong and a few tracks in the deluxe are amazing, but overall, it wasn't fantastic. I already much prefer TTPD.

Midnights is 1989 pt 2 all the way for me. Handful of high universally appealing mainstream highs, with lots of wasting space filler. Except the highs aren’t on the level of 1989 highs, so it’s not even as good as that for me.

For me it’s very definitively:
Reputation Lover Folklore
large gap
Red Speak Now 1989 Midnights Fearless
Evermore
Tried to get into the debut way back and nothing stuck at all, so I only know the singles.

That's why I think she went more alt vibe with TTPD, because she might have felt Midnights fulfilled the commercial success itch she was looking to scratch and she knew regardless it was gonna be hard to top an album that sold 7 million copies domestically and produced her longest running #1 single so she went more personal preference/artistic on this one instead of trying to appease the masses. With the way she has spoken about TTPD I feel like this album was for her more than us, like this is her "My December". That's just my feeling anyway.

Lover Folklore Evermore 1989 Midnights Red That's all I've heard so far lol Please listen to Rep!! The singles (besides Delicate) represent the lows of the album imo. Don’t Blame Me, I Did Something Bad, Dancing With Our Hands Tied, So It Goes, Call It What You Want, Dress, Getaway Car are all career highs for me. And Gorgeous is such a fun production, despite those ridiculous lyrics.

I don’t hear Folklore or Evermore, two of her best along with 1989 and Red. It’s more Midnights and Lover album cuts but wordier, and also 1989 TV Vault tracks.
It’s similar to Folkmore only in that the whole thing is samey in tempo and sound, but it lacks all the haunting melodies and her usually sharp pen. These lyrics all sound very stream of consciousness. Like imagine if Donald Trump were smart and ranting about lost love.

I might just end up getting the vinyl anyway and diving in since it might not come until later in the year anyway. Then I'll basically have my own double-album release!

So to those who have heard the leak… thoughts on Fortnight’s hit level potential? it's sadly a snoozefest in my opinion, it's very folklore/evermore/3am edition vibes, slow and not really a radio smash upbeat song like I expected for a lead single. It will probably still do huge numbers because it's the lead single, but I can do it with a broken heart would have been a great lead single especially for airplay, even My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys would be a radio smash. But fortnight could do maybe do a bit well on AC, but doesn't feel like a mega hit compared to Anti Hero etc...

My thought was also that if I heard the TV versions first, I'd likely end up preferring those when or if I ever decided to visit the originals. (My assumption is that the version you're most used to hearing is the one you'll probably end up liking most barring some creative differences between them).

I never understand why people (I.e. haters) are so dense about some of Taylor's sillier lyrics.'Golden retriever energy' is something that has been in the popular lexicon for a while. She's saying this love interest is that plus they have tattoos lol. She's not trying to get you to bizarrely conjure up an image of what a dog with tattoos would be. Like, what?!
Anyway, I am someone who almost always takes a while to like a new album. I immediately had 'Midnights' as bottom tier Taylor after my first few listens and was pretty disappointed... now I think it's fantastic (tracks 1-6 are a perfect run) and certainly deserves to stand with the rest of the best in her catalogue. I turned my nose up at 'Folklore' entirely at first; now it's my favorite album. I'm trying to brace myself for these feelings of the new album, knowing they will pass. The cross she has to bear is that we (or I, at least) are SO attached to the old material that new music can be hard to embrace as we compare it to songs we've listened to HUNDREDS of times. I'm sure at the very least there will be stands outs that will remain in circulation on my Spotify for a very long time.

I love that she vaguely references her detractors in "Whose Afraid Of Little Ole Me?" too

I wonder if she will come close to Adele's first week sales record? I think 2 million is a lock but we will have to see how streaming and reception holds.

I love the "Lover" album; however,I did not like most of "Midnights." Hoping to be pleasantly surprised by the new album. She is obviously quite talented and a brilliant marketer.

This is kind of how I feel lol, I'm really liking the album after a few listens but almost an entire album about Matty is a lot for me to digest.

Maybe she dated him for longer than we were aware of? She clearly fell for him a lot more than we would have expected and resents the backlash she got from it. I honestly didn't even think of Matty once listening to the album initially until people started pointing it out? I know nothing about him tho...so. Which songs are about him and how did people deduce they were about him? I get the one tattoo line in "TTPD", but the others?
