A solo Beyonce single going Top 10 at Pop in 2024 is amazing. I remember just 10 years ago female artists like Mariah would struggle to reach Top 20 at Pop.

But as I was mentioning when this first went top ten, ageism rears its ugly head as soon as a song by an over 40 artist hits that range. We get so so few CHR top 5s from over 40 females especially. Who has even done it in the last 10 years besides Nicki and Sia? There just wasn’t any good excuse with this one for it to not have a strong push to the top 5 right now. If it were super competitive in the top ten or this was something a bit more niche sounding like Break My Soul, it would be maybe less suspicious for why it’s being dumped now.

Hopefully not.... the songs at #2-#6 are all falling so if this keeps holding on it should get into the top 5 fairly easily. :(

I'm also hoping the Taylor effect is still taking away some spins slightly...

Yep, ageism cap. Levii’s Jeans can break that ceiling for her though, Post in large part will help. And it being more traditionally poppy than this. Hoping if I put it in writing enough it will eventually materialize as a properly pushed single lol.

Wow. Thank God for streaming and perhaps even iTunes to show what the public was really listening to and enjoying. This song seemed so massive. And it should’ve even hit Top 10 on the country charts if we’re talking strictly quality. This song is a country classic.

and I think 6 weeks in the Pop radio top 10.

It streamed well for a bit, but I wouldn’t say it was a streaming giant or anything.
I can see why it’s hitting a wall now, but it still did very well.

I was hoping this would have made top 5 on Pop given most songs in the top 10 declining, but oh well. At least it became a really nice sized #1 hit for Beyoncé!

I will admit streaming ended up disappointing. It seemed like it would be one of the biggest hits of the year on streaming those first few weeks, then it just really kind of fell off. Entirely possible her complete hands off approach to any kind of promo these days hurt it there a bit.

That said, I always thought this sounded like the epitome of CHR bait more than anything else, even more than big streaming smash. It absolutely screams song that CHR puts in power for months (despite the country elements). So I’m still citing ageism for what happened here.

Very true. The streaming wasn't even that bad, however lots of songs can't pull the amount TEXAS HOLD 'EM could.

I wonder if the timing hurt this in the sense that the country wave on radio isn’t as hot as it was the last few years. She initially wanted to release Cowboy Carter before Renaissance.
