Rhiannon Giddens plays on Texas Hold 'Em which is fantastic and an encouraging sign for the rest of the album.

I'm sorry but those 2 songs are so bad, Beyoncé and country just don't mix 🤦♂️

Please save us from this nightmare 😬😬😬… I guess she thinks she’s invisible, which she is because her fans will all of a sudden become country music lovers lol ..

I love both songs. But “Texas Hold ‘Em” is my favorite. I wasn’t ecstatic about a country inspired album but I’m all for her exploring her southern roots. The Louisiana boy in me is happy about that. Might not top act i for me but I’m super excited for this era. I’ll only be pissed if she delivers visuals for this act and not the previous one.

So it really was true. The acts are about original black genres she wants to help reclaim. Man, she is just special. Act III has to be rock then.

"Texas Hold Em" is little too stomp-clap-hey for me, lol. It reminds me of that bizarre window of music (i.e. Lumineers, M&S) that I just didn't care for.
"16 Carriages" is definitely the stronger of the two. Just a very pretty song.
I get the mission statement, she definitely pulled it off with Act One. She has a much harder task here IMO. Either way, it's gonna be fascinating to watch this all go down.
I bet K. Michelle is fuming right now, lol.

I might have to sit this one out and check back in for Act III because Im not a fan of country Beyoncé. I like Daddy Lessons but hated If I Were A Boy. The two new songs are alright but nothing I will play again. There is something about her harmonies that doesn’t translate well for me.
I like the idea of reclaiming music that originally started with black people. I know there have been a few black country artists have become popular recently so this is the perfect time to do this and continue to push forward. I hope she acknowledges some of those artists (like Reyna Roberts, Breland, Mickey Guyton, Tanner Adell and The War & The Treaty)

The rumors were true! We're finally getting Act II!
"Daddy Lessons" is a career highlight and I'm sure this album will feature songs at its level. However, neither of the two singles was instant for me (though "16 Carriages" is definitely stronger).

She is such a poser. Every album since ST has been some sort of concept album and it's sooooo tirrreedddd.
When has she ever even cited a single country influence?
CHILE!

The songs are just nice to me. Don't love them, don't hate them. Couldn't finish either and not planning to go back to them. Of course I will check out the whole album, but if these two are the main two songs they selected to represent the album, I'm afraid I may not like it much. I LOVED Act I though. She is still awesome of course and i like her.

LMAO at K coming through with the supportive reply (while also being incredibly braggadocious and checking folks). She deserves everything, really hope her country album drops this year, she swears it will.

She’s been performing with country acts since the mid-2000s? She worked with songwriters that primarily write for country artists in several albums? She had a whole country song in her album? CHILE indeed.

So who will be featured on act ii if anyone. Any guesses? Gaga? The chicks? I’m calling Kacey Musgraves, Stapleton, a handful of black country artists - Darius Rucker and a DC5 reunion. I'll be shocked if The War and Treaty aren't featured. Coming off a BNA nom at the Grammy's & a collab with Zach Bryan that landed at #14, but still generally unknown, they're the types of artists Beyonce will be looking at to feature

She deserves everything, really hope her country album drops this year, she swears it will. If anything maybe this Beyonce drop will help her as it might prep some people for her album. I am interested to see how this projected is marketed and what audience it ultimately hits. Sadly I don't think much of the country audience will be open to the project, regardless of the quality. At the same time I don't think R&B radio is going to eat it up either. Not that it's even about commercial success, but I don't think she wants the project to come and go either. Jay D83 I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you must have missed "Daddy Lessons" with its clear country influence musically and lyrically (not to mention her performing it with The Chicks and then releasing that version too).

Yeah, I'm really interested how this is gonna play out commercially. Country isn't gonna touch her and how will her core formats respond? Is she gonna tour this so soon after the last tour? I have to remind myself that Act One would have been over at "Break My Soul" if TikTok/streaming hadn't forced their hand with "Cuff It." That, along with the tour/film extended that era to make it seem like she did more than she actually did. So barring these first singles and maybe some visuals, I can actually see her dropping this and running. Maybe she'll have another TT moment, but I'm bracing myself for a come and go type of era tbh.

Full stop! girl, please... there's nothing AOTY-chasing about this release. in fact, it's the opposite — she might lose some of the R&B support she has in the voting body and will have a harder time convincing country voters to get on board. she'll be competing with albums from Maggie Rogers, Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey, all white women beloved by the country/alt/americana voters.

I'm expecting this too. This project is interesting, with a three-part release you'd maybe expect middling quality (sort of like the double album situation) and quick releases plus a tour for all three together - act i was a massive album era unto itself with a huge standalone tour. Maybe they didn't expect the first to last so long? I wonder if she's testing commercial formats to see if they respond as well. Not because she needs it, but isn't that part of the project? Reclamation of black music.

I agree with this analysis. It's called fusing styles; just like Mariah was bringing pop melodies to hip-hop beats in the 1990s. Why can't Beyonce bring fuse vocal stylings from some genres with production elements from country? That doesn't mean everyone has to like the outcome, but under no circumstances is Beyonce obligated to sing a certain way just because she's using country production. If anything she's showing all music is Black music, so it's less that she's making any specific genre and is just making Black music period. Plus let's be real, if she suddenly sang with a country drawl people would criticize that too. Let's also be honest and note that plenty of white male country singers have been making lame attempts to rap (or pseudo-rap) in their songs for years now.
