This song is not good. Country or not (which it isn’t), it’s just not good. Lyric sounds like it was written by Chat GPT. Nothing to do with her sex or race, this is just a hard pass for me.

The song features a banjo, a stomping line dance beat, and has lyrics referencing dive bars and card games, yet you're telling me it's not country and that you're not saying that because Beyonce is Black? Sure, Jan.

Songs can be bad regardless of the race of the singer, fyi.

People are respectful here and realize you're entitled to your opinion regarding #1. #2 is what people are reacting to and giving examples of why they think it's country. And your response to that is, "no the song is bad." We get it. You don't like the song (it's not a masterpiece like Jason Aldean's songs). But people are saying to them it's country. It would be nice if you could say why you don't think it's country rather than saying over and over, "this song bad."

A banjo loop and saying the word “dive bar” does not make a song country imo. I’m personally just not a fan of legacy artists coming from other formats to make novelty country albums. I didn’t like Steven Tyler’s attempt, we will see about Post Malone, Lana Del Ray etc. it just never feels authentic to me. Again, personal opinion. Also, why are you bringing up Jason Aldean? Nobody said a word about him other than you

This is a country song. I don’t get the debate.
I don’t really enjoy it much, but it’s a country track and should chart as such.

The Country Format can be very unwelcoming to artists from other genres. If some of you want to pretend this song is less country than some of the cookie-cutter crap that is on radio right now, then you are fooling yourself. I think we should all welcome B with open arms. I will always be grateful that Darius broke through, cuz I am still mad that country radio didn’t take more to Jewel and Kelly Clarkson.

So I guess it’s fair to say the song is Country & Hip Hop 😂

So I guess it’s fair to say the song is Country & Hip Hop 😂 I don’t think radio defines the genre as much as we think it does. It’s more about radio giving the listeners what it thinks they want to hear. Country radio played Taylor’s first pop singles because they believed its audiences still wanted Taylor’s music, despite being pop songs.

You didn't say it, but I assume with you wanting this song to only spend one week in the Top 40 on country radio you aren't a fan of this song. Sorry for assuming why you weren't a fan though.

Not a fan of Beyoncé. Never have been never will be. Not even listened to the song to even give an opinion and probably won’t unless I hear it on the radio in my car at some point.

What I fail to understand is how people can hear any of these 2 songs and claim they are not country yet their faves are out here releasing anything but country music smh.

Yet you have posted 3x in a thread about the discussion of the song. I think that tells us all we need to know about you as a poster. If you're talking to me, I've replied to posts 3 times not posted about the song. In a thread about the song. If you want to offer your input on its chart performance and say asinine things like "I hope this week is it's only appearance in the top 40" then the bare MINIMUM you can do is listen to the song. It takes a mere 4 minutes out of your day to do that and you've had over a week now. Jesus. Anyway, glad to see this hitting the top 40 on the Country Airplay chart. Would love to have it make the top 20 or 30 at least by the end of its run, but I could see it treading water after the initial hype wears off similar to what we've seen with all of Taylor Swift's sporadic country releases over the past 5 years. Rooting for it to do well though.

I do agree I think this may fare like "betty", "New Year's Day", or other Taylor songs in terms of hype that fizzles and dies. That said, there is a LOT more buzz around this single (because it is apparently controversial, while the Taylor songs really weren't) and that buzz is helping this shoot up the chart hotter than a Morgan Wallen single. Time will tell if it stalls or continues to burn hot.

It doesen't matter whether Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Mickey Guyton, Shania Twain, Terri Gibbs, Reba, Dolly, or Loretta Lynn did this song. It is just not good. Not being Country and not being good are two separate things. Correct. I never said this song wasn't country. I said it wasn't good. My point was that none of the females I mentioned would make this a good song.

If you were just posting to say the song isn't good, it would be more easily understood if you just made that its own post instead of replying to one about what makes it country.

The last two updates for this on the radio charts are interesting, in that it was flying up the charts...and then two straight negative days.
The song is country, it's just not very good...and I think commercially it is definitely being helped by the fact that it is country, 16 carriages is the better song though
