Looks like a Hot 100 top 10 debut for Espresso is becoming more and more likely With that and Too Sweet aiming for #1 it's shaping up to be a great week

It's really stable on streaming (which still isn't top 10 debut huge), sales are okay, and radio still low. I'm thinking more top 20 debut than top 10, which is amazing for Sabrina. It'll reach the top 10 at some point after Taylor's album, but I don't wanna jinx it like I did with End of Beginning...

So fun to see Sabrina taking off and a healthy rotation of songs at the top. The movement on the charts this year has been so fun with so many surprises; really makes up for the COVID era snooze fest.

I remember everything now has half a year in the US Spotify top 10, 21st song to do so. sunflower: Pop top 5, rhythmic #1 industry baby: Pop #1, rhythmic #1 stay: Pop #1, rhythmic top 3 heat waves: Pop #1, rock top 5 last night: Pop top 5, country #1 blinding: Pop #1, rhythmic top 3 kill bill: Pop #1, rhythmic #1 royals: Pop #1, rhythmic top 3 all I want for Christmas: well, the recurrent stats are huge every season for several years, but original run Pop top 10, AC top 10 (radio #11) as it was: Pop #1, HAC #1 XO tour life: rhythmic #6 (radio #30) hills: Pop top 3, rhythmic #1 box: Pop #11, rhythmic #1 (radio #6) good 4 u: Pop #1, HAC #1 sicko mode: Pop top 10, rhythmic #1 (radio #8) radioactive: Pop top 3, rock #1 wake me up: Pop #1, rock top 5 one dance: pop #1, rhythmic #1 rockstar (post): pop top 5, rhythmic #1 lucid dreams: Pop top 10, rhythmic #1 (radio #6) XO tour life is the closest precedent, but still better than Pop #30 + country #26 + radio songs N/A. Yeah I was asking in the all-time hot 100 thread if any radio flop has ever been more successful on the hot 100 than this? Itโs not that far from the top 1000 all-time hot 100 now, and Iโd imagine nearly all of those were moderate radio hits at the least.

Can I just say this is easily the most exciting the charts have been in like 3-4 years?
Like That sparking discourse off of one Kendrick verse and having longevity, Hozier charting 10 years after Take Me to Church with a hit that actually feels big (I've heard it multiple times in a wild) and surpasses his breakout hit), Artemas bringing darkwave to the mainstream, Sabrina Carpenter finally breaking through on her own after it felt like she would remain a B-lister, Chappell Roan charting and not just being relagated to being a critical darling like so many of her peers, Beyonce came back with an album just as strong as RENAISSANCE, and we still have a Taylor Swift album this Friday?
And that's not getting into acts like Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan still having longevity from 2022, newer K-Pop acts like ILLIT and NewJeans getting noticed (btw expect more BTS member comeback singles as several members finish their military service), we still have reggaeton and Regional Mexican Music crossovers, SZA is still a superstar, Olivia Rodrigo's fanbase is still solid, it's just cool to see it.

I agree. Itโs very nice to witness this in person! Reminds me when I look at old 2013 posts/threads from this forum :)

I think the most interesting thing about the charts right now is that pop, rock, country, hip-hop, dance, r&b, and alt are all represented in the hot 100 top ten or so right now. Surely thatโs never happened before where we basically have every notable genre smashing at the same time?

I associate the 90s with lots of diversity in mainstream music, but it seems like it was more segmented? Like you had phases where grunge or country or bubblegum pop or alt/soft rock or r&b etc etc were popular, rather than all at once.

Country being in Hot 100 top 10 def wasn't a regular occurence in the 90s. But the upper charts being very genre diverse and not having 1-2 dominant genres has been happening since last year and was already discussed. pulsemusic.proboards.com/post/8422666/thread

Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, and LeAnn Rimes all had multiple top 10s or close in the 1990s if I'm not mistaken. Along with that artists like Sheryl Crow, Shawn Colvin, and Jewel had hits with songs that were rooted in folk, and particularly in today's climate would be seen as country in the way Zach Bryan is seen as such.

"I Remember Everything" hasn't crossed over to Top 40 or anything but is being used as an example of a current country hit, so what's the difference? I think it actually makes them similar because the Hot 100 success for both was not about radio. More so the post I replied to talked about the various genres represented in the current Hot 100 top 10. I then mentioned Tim McGraw had multiple Hot 100 top 10s in the 1990s ("It's Your Love" peaked at #7 and "Please Remember Me" at #10). That's true and relevant to the post that I replied to. In terms of the original question @pikandru asked, another example would be 2000. On the July 1, 2000 chart the Hot 100 top 10 looked like this: 1. "Be With You" - pop 2. "Try Again" - R&B 3. "I Turn To You" - AC/pop 4. "I Wanna Know" - R&B 5. "The Real Slim Shady" - hip-hop 6. "Everything You Want" - rock 7. "It's Gonna Be Me" - pop 8. "Breathe" - country 9. "You Sang to Me" - Latin pop 10. "There You Go" Creed and matchbox 20 were just outside the top 10. Additionally about 2 months earlier Sonique had a top 10 hit with a dance song, and Alice Deejay was in the top 40 on this 7/1/00 Hot 100 with a dance song. Lonestar was still top 30 with their country song and recent #1 "Amazed."

Oh yeah thatโs a good chart week comp for sure! Really shows the whole 90s trends finally converging in 2000. Still feels very rare.

Surely thatโs never happened before where we basically have every notable genre smashing at the same time? If you look back a bit one time when this was fairly common was the mid-70's. You'd have pop, R&B, funk, country, soft rock, hard rock, disco, and even novelty/comedy all hitting the Top Ten. Here's the chart from 50 years ago last week: April 20, 197401 03 T.S.O.P. (The Sound Of Philadelphia) - MFSB & The Three Degrees (1st of 2 weeks at #1) - disco 02 01 Bennie And The Jets - Elton John - pop-rock 03 02 Hooked On a Feeling - Blue Swede - pop-rock bordering on comedy-novelty 04 07 Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me - Gladys Knight & The Pips - R&B 05 05 Come And Get Your Love (Hail) - Redbone - funk rock 06 09 Oh My My - Ringo Starr - pop 07 06 Sunshine On My Shoulders - John Denver - country-soft rock 08 17 The Locomotion - Grand Funk pop rock 09 04 The Lord's Prayer - Sister Janet Mead - folk-rock novelty 10 13 I'll Have To Say I Love You In a Song - Jim Croce - soft rock Even a version of the Our Father was in the top ten!!!

From those, only Like That and We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love) have managed to stick around the top 10 for some meaningful amount of weeks.

I think the most interesting thing about the charts right now is that pop, rock, country, hip-hop, dance, r&b, and alt are all represented in the hot 100 top ten or so right now. Surely thatโs never happened before where we basically have every notable genre smashing at the same time? 2017 had this in some form: Hip-Hop was the most dominant with 1-800 going viral, Migos breaking through off of Bad and Boujee, Kendrick's best year commercially, Cardi B becoming famous with Bodak Yellow, Post Malone not being a one hit wonder with Congratulations and rockstar, Future having a solo hit, Lil Uzi dropping XO TOUR, 21 Savage was also blowing up around this time This was the year reggaeton finally broke through with Mi Gente and of course Despacito Pop had Havana, Harry Styles debuting, reputation era Taylor Swift, Kesha and Bruno Mars' comeback, Ed Sheeran's biggest ever era Country was weak as Body Like A Backroad was the only huge country hit but that year was also the breakthrough of Luke Combs Dance had Calvin Harris with Funk Wav Bounces + hits from Kygo and Zedd, and The Chainsmokers dropping their debut album We had representation in R&B with SZA dropping Ctrl, the breakthrough of Khalid, and Redbone becoming a sleeper hit, Weeknd continuing the momentum from Starboy Even "rock" (or at least alt stations) had Imagine Dragons and Portugal the Man to play

Honestly i will agree here and say this past month has been the most fun time for chartwatching ive seen since... shit since i started doing it 2 years ago in the midst of the May 2022 album bombs (not like my favorite artist of all time getting his second hit has anything to do with that though, rightt?)

Gotta agree with the over-all sentiment around here, the constant change of pace in the Billboard Hot 100 has been refreshing. Easily the best period so far within the 2020s,
