I would agree, except most of those were from album bombs. From those, only Like That and We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love) have managed to stick around the top 10 for some meaningful amount of weeks.

Yeah but at this point aren't album bombs and the holidays the only things that can shake up the charts? In general songs stay around the top 10 (and overall) longer than ever. Hell, even with album bombs only a handful of artists have the capability to really shake up the top 10, and then with holiday music it's still the same songs that take over the top 10 each year.

I'm just not sure what it will take for the charts to go back to having more variety on a regular basis. The decline of radio will help, but only to a certain extent.

I noticed nobody has brought up "Push Ups (Drop & Give Me 50)" by Drake, his response to Kendrick Lamar, Future, Metro Boomin, The Weeknd & Rick Ross.

And I understand why because it has not dropped officially on streaming services.

Still, I have to wonder the implications of the song if and when it does officially drop on streaming services.

Because, if you don't know, the song is a scorcher. I am very excited to hear Kendrick's response but right now I'm just wondering if and when he will do an official drop of this song.

Would he really drop it this Friday? At first I laughed at the thought because I know well that Taylor Swift's album is coming out.

But then that got me to thinking, if ever there was a song to drop and a debut at number 1 over any song on a Taylor Swift album, wouldn't a scorcher of a track by Drake dissing Kendrick Lamar and others at the height of this overall situation, hot off "Like That" being at number 1 for three weeks in a row... I got to say, it is just about the best candidate for a song that could make that happen.

And that would be quite the flex, a way to counteract the prior success of "Like That"
Anyhow, I just bring it up because if Drake is dropping this track officially on streaming services then it is going to be making a major impact on these threads here.

I could definitely be wrong. I mean this track came out just over three weeks after "Like That" so who knows. Drake could totally wait until April 26th to officially drop this track but something about that just seems odd to me. Totally possible though.

Yeah, it feels like a while from now, especially because WDTY is almost a month old, but I can't see him winning against Taylor's lead which will have huge numbers on all three metrics. I mean, if he doesn't care about getting a #1, he can still drop it whenever, today, tomorrow, Friday...but if he wants it, 04/26 is his chance, and that's still an IF because we don't know how big will be the 2nd week for Taylor (Anti-Hero had like 350 points in the 2nd week), and she's much stronger now than she was during Midnights release.

If Too Sweet does indeed become #1 in the Hot 100 this week, that's another song with the sound of bells to reach that position just 2 years since As It Was debuted there.

I almost wonder if Hot 100 wise he'd be better off dropping 04/19? Because she is not leading with a single or anything so the whole album will be getting played but it will be that opening week which decides the song from it that is the biggest and will be pushed.

Meaning that there is a chance that whichever song is the biggest off the album will actually GROW in the second week because it gets a chance to be out and become the focus track, become an actual hit of itself rather than just a random one of any track on the album like how it will be first week where it would just be first track or earlier tracks debuting the highest.

Thinking about it like that, which is not necessarily a guarantee, but it does make me wonder if Hot 100 wise he'd have a better shot April 19th. Maybe not, those album bombs do be tough, but I think there is merit to the point.

^Well, if the release of Midnights is any indication, Anti-Hero was released that same day. She released a video for the song that same day. I expect Taylor to follow this release strategy for her new album as well.

This was the year reggaeton finally broke through with Mi Gente and of course Despacito

Pop had Havana, Harry Styles debuting, reputation era Taylor Swift, Kesha and Bruno Mars' comeback, Ed Sheeran's biggest ever era

Country was weak as Body Like A Backroad was the only huge country hit but that year was also the breakthrough of Luke Combs

Dance had Calvin Harris with Funk Wav Bounces + hits from Kygo and Zedd, and The Chainsmokers dropping their debut album

We had representation in R&B with SZA dropping Ctrl, the breakthrough of Khalid, and Redbone becoming a sleeper hit, Weeknd continuing the momentum from Starboy

Even "rock" (or at least alt stations) had Imagine Dragons and Portugal the Man to play

Castle On The Hill and There's Nothing Holding Me Back count as Rock songs IMO, even if they weren't by Rock artists.
