so Fortnight debuted #1 directly on US AM, i believe this is the first time this was achieved? if Drake or other rappers had done it then it'd be the first for a pop artist and female artist; and as we all know - they're much bigger on Spotify than they are on AM.


Therefore, if her streams are equally as impressive on Spotify then we can deduce that shes probably taking the biggest SEAs first week record and other similar US streaming records alike.

As much as I enjoy having big event albums which are a rarity these days, it is a bummer that Sabrina Carpenter and Chapelle Roan might take a hit just as they're breaking through on the charts

Do we think that having a 31 track album might lower the streaming numbers of the "not-focus" tracks? With a cohesive 14 track album she could've got the whole top ten on Hot 100 but not sure if that's the case now.

I might just listen to the standard version sometime this weekend and call it in. Especially when a lot of the reception for this album doesn't seem to be as good as her prior music.

Personally I think people who "take issue" with 30 Taylor tracks being released were gonna take issue with 17 Taylor tracks being released as well. If you aren't a fan her releases are likely going to ignore you clogging your feed regardless.

Personally, I hope she releases a third and fourth and fifth collection to match all stages of grief and just to piss people off. 🤣

People complained about Drake and Morgan too, especially Morgan because his 40-songs albums will forever be in the top 10 of Billboard's 200 chart, so will TTPD I guess lol.

10/10 is definitely possible, Hozier is currently at 285 points or so (would've been enough for #6 during Midnights release), Taylor's #10 song had around 263 points, and I guess she will do something (discount) if Hozier is predicted to chart in #6-#10 area. Also, there are currently 4 songs over 200 points, so I guess 16/20 is possible, or 15/20 if "Espresso" surprises.

If you go back to the threads where their albums were released? Yes I definitely saw some complaints here and on ATRL.

Was it that many vs now? No. Because Taylor is a way more popular artist. Ppl care more about her releases than those male artists that you mentioned.

Another day, another record broken by Taylor Swift. In less than 12 hours, Swift’s new The Tortured Poets Department double album has become Spotify’s most streamed album in a single day in 2024 so far, Spotify confirms exclusively to Billboard.

The 31-track set snags the honor from the previous record-holder, Beyoncé’s Billboard 200-topping Cowboy Carter LP, which ultimately earned 300.41 million on-demand official streams in its first full week of release.

Spotify is still tracking for other potential records today that could be broken by Swift.

The Tortured Poets Department serves as the pop superstar’s eleventh studio album; it’s also her first album of new music since 2022’s Grammy-winning Midnights. Swift’s new LP features collaborations with Florence + the Machine and Post Malone, as well as writing and production contributions from Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner. On Thursday (April 18), Swift revealed that the Post Malone-assisted “Fortnight” would serve as the set’s first single, with a music video to follow on Friday (April 19) at 8 p.m. ET.

On Thursday, the “Cruel Summer” singer also debuted a teaser of the “Fortnight” video, which features an appearance from Malone. “At this hearing, I stand before my fellow members of The Tortured Poets Department with a summary of my findings,” she wrote in the enigmatic caption of the grayscale clip.

Although Tortured Poets is Swift’s first album of new music since Midnights, she has steadily pumped out her re-recorded Taylor’s Version albums in the interim. In between the two aforementioned LPs, Swift topped the Billboard 200 with both Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version), the latter of which became the star’s record-extending sixth album to debut with over one million pure sales in its first week.

Swift announced The Tortured Poets Department at the 2024 Grammys in February, where she won album of the year for a record fourth time thanks to her Midnights album.

Yes, people definitely complained about Drake and Morgan's albums. And I disagree, even if it is with my favorite artist, I really dread listening to long albums, and 17 vs. 31 tracks really makes a big difference. It just takes all that much more time to listen to all of them and weed them down into your own personal version/playlist of the album as you mention. Additionally, we all know that bonus tracks added on to albums tend to be a bit weaker, but we end up liking at least one or two of them, so going through all those extras to find the goodies makes it additionally cumbersome.

Also, I've only listened about 12 tracks in, but does anyone else agree that Fortnight is by far the weakest track? Has me wondering why they chose it as the lead. If it had to be with Post, surely they could have come up with something better. Very Very reminiscent of the ME! situation. It will debut at #1 for sure and do at least as well as that, but with so many better tracks, I don't see it being the single with the most longevity at all.

31 songs is overwhelming but no one is forcing anyone to digest it all at once. At the end of the day, its more content for the fans. People are acting like they are put at gun point to listen to the whole project.

If you're a casual listener stick to whatver singles she promotes or the 'base' album.

I've listened through the whole thing twice and now I'm jumping around seeing which songs I want in my rotation.
