Considering its success and the size of her βcult,β maybe she doesnβt need the βgeneral publicβ? I mean, itβs nice to have a mix of people buying/streaming music but this need to cater to a general audience and for what? Katyβs career was built catering to general pop fans. She had awesome radio support - until she didnβt. Once the GP moved on, who was left? Taylor has built a strong fanbase and once radio dries up, sheβll still have her fanbase. Sheβs in the absolute prime position any artist would dream of and somehow youβre trying to paint it as bad spot because of this need to appeal to a βgeneral publicβ. Because this album is objectively, boring. The base will go down in size with each release unless she makes more interesting records that peak the gp's interest in the future. Your opinion of the album doesnβt matter. Nor does mine. You can say itβs boring all you want but clearly millions of fans disagree - and thatβs taking into account the ones buying the album over and over again with every βdeluxeβ version she releases. A large number of people have been eating this album up since its release and I bet even when she moves on to her next era, whether itβs another TV or a new album, this album will still exist within the fandom and continue receiving streams and sales like Midnights and Lover before it. People clearly love it, boring or not, soβ¦still not sure where youβre going here?

I must admit I do get pleasure from watching the OTHs (Obsessed Taylor Haters) desperately twist themselves into pretzels trying to somehow make her into a flop. Especially when they stan someone whose career was just generously resurrected by the benevolent queen herself :)

TTPD is a perfect example of a boring album being a huge success, why act like the two are mutually exclusive.
Or were y'all bopping to Susan Boyle that year she ruled the charts for several months? lmao. These projects connected with their target audience, the numbers are there. Any criticism about them being fun or good is subjective.

Any criticism about them being fun or good is subjective. Just as any criticisms about the album being boring or bad, mind you. TTPD isn't everyone's cup of tea and that's just fine as it is on its way to sailing past 6 million SPS domestically before long so it doesn't have to be. It hit with and connected to where it needed to. :) People act as if single success is the be all end all, but artists like Taylor prefer the whole project hit and it has. She's always been an album-driven artist first and foremost. Single success secondary. I *absolutely* have seen some people try to twist TTPD's success into a negative narrative because they personally didn't click with it, which is silly. I can personally detest an album and still give it its flowers if it was commercially successful. Some are just stuck in this mentality that an album must have a row of successful singles to have been successful which isn't true at all.

Yeah my point is I'm no fan of this particular album but to act like it's a flop bc of that is delusional.
Her approach of no pre-album singles doesn't lend itself to the type of 4 to 5 hits per album cycle that some people still want either. She got lucky with Midnights getting three and that still needed a remix.

This album is the swiftie bubble, period. It sounds like she's parodying herself outside of a few of the more popular songs. I don't care if it's done 6million sps. The next album is not going to do that if it's full of dull downtempo songs with cringey speak easy lyrics

The next album is not going to do that if it's full of dull downtempo songs with cringey speak easy lyrics There's a high chance she doesn't do 6 million SPS next release regardless of what she releases as that is an astronomical figure these days and would be impossible to replicate over and over again for anyone. Even if her next release is relegated to the "Swifitie Bubble", given it's millions strong, I'm sure she's gonna be fine. Taylor doesn't have to cater to new listeners to achieve success. She is 18 years into her career and a legacy artist at this point. She has nothing left to prove. Any huge commercial success or hit single at this stage of it all is just icing on an already extraordinary career. :) She's simply not working with the same dynamics as your average pop star. lol She could have easily crafted another 1989 or Midnights, but I'm personally glad she's making albums catered to herself. That's what an artist should be doing and whoever connects, connects, and whoever doesn't, doesn't.

Iβm so glad that Swiftie Bubble exists. And Iβm sure she and her record label are too, rolling in the cash and all the record breaking from this boring album.

Midnights gained a lot of news fans, TTPD I'm not so sure. This album lost so many of my friends who were more casual on her.

Discard The Anthology bonus tracks (minus a handful) and TTPD is my favorite Taylor album, based on how she sings, her pen game (even the goofy lines are at least memorable), and...the production. The fact that loml exists AND Dry As The Desert Dessner produced it...whew. Then again, I am a Midnight stan and this, to me, is just an elevated version of that album, which, by the way, I also stanned. I'll take virtually ANYTHING over the sound of her first two albums and Fearless grew on me ESPECIALLY with her current vocals.

Personally, I hope she *actually* flops into oblivion for once with her next release to satiate all these hungry vultures who are circling, salivating for her demise (so much to the point they're trying to spin objective success into negative narratives). Let's just go ahead and give the Taylor hate mob what they want so they can leave it alone and go on about their day. lol

If this song and its parent album are so boring to you, why do you keep coming back to repeat yourself? We all get it, you donβt like the song or album. Iβm sure you get our point as well, we (and millions of others in the βbubbleβ) do. Why the repetition? Itβs almost as if this song is actually quite interesting to you, for you to be posting in its thread so much. It makes it even harder to take what youβre saying at face value.

I've tried explaining why and the response from an echo chamber of TS avys is "6 mIlLion pPeoPle sAy oTheRwise" but okay good talk. And..? When someones says something is bad but there is literal proof using hard stats and figures that dispute that opinionated statement, then yes, that means theyβre wrong. Thatβs literally how a discussion works. So unless you have another statement to make to back up your claim, you either have to admit you were wrong or, I guess you could do what youβre doing now and double down on your original claim without providing anything new - hence my point about you not arguing in good faith.

There's literally a post on the last page which (shocker) all of you ignored that talks about tempo, producers, etc. Not my problem if red vision ignored it I must have missed it because I can't find it and I went back a couple pages. In any case, maybe I'm missing your overall point, which I thought was about how Taylor was in trouble because the "general public" aren't buying into her sound this era, to which my point was that Taylor's "cult" (not my words) fanbase is big enough that she's in a very good position as an artist that she can afford to cater almost exclusively to her fanbase and still succeed - and judging by the response to this album from her fans, she's doing just that. Can that continue? Potentially for a while. Even if she doesn't score Hot 100 hits anymore, her career isn't in danger in any way. That was the point of my argument. Are we talking about different things? Apologies if so.

She's had several eras where the album overperformed compared to her Hot 100 and/or radio stats and she still bounced back everytime. Speak Now into RED; folklore/evermore into Midnights.
I think this project being so fan driven might impact her numbers in the future but it's way too soon to predict; especially since next album could be 1989 Part II and slay the Hot 100 with 5 radio hits. She's unpredictable. She's about to yield another 100k week with the "fan-driven" album so clearly her strategy worked so far for this project.

Whether or not a person finds TTPD to be a "boring" album or not is personally inconsequential to me. Everyone has opinions.
What I find humorous though is this whole notion TTPD is "not picking up new fans" or how it's "only for the TS fan". First of all no one has any way to track whether or not this album has or hasn't picked up Taylor new fans along the way unless they have the hard customer/listener stats and data to extrapolate. You can't deduce these types of things just because you personally don't jive with the sound or the album, as people's tastes vary widely. Furthermore, why would Taylor cater to the "casual listener" when most artists can't pull her figures catering to that very audience left and right (in fact most would kill for Taylor's figures) when she has a strong, solid core fanbase, millions strong at this point, who allows her to follow her own artistic vision and has shown they're going to be receptive and support her along the way?
Taylor is far passed the point of a new artist whose building a fanbase and needs to cater to casual listeners unless she wants radio hits and that is clearly not what she was going for with this album, as she already stated it was an extremely personal project that she needed to write more than any other, in a therapeutic sense. Her target for TTPD wasn't formulating a slew of #1 hits, but was turning her own personal pain into something tangible, which is what she has done. Why some are having trouble understanding that is beyond me. This woman could write a #1 pop hit in her sleep if she wanted to. But why would she feel a necessity to do that again with this album when she just solidified she could do that in a big way (the two biggest hits of her career no less) with her last album and a 5year old album? She is not at a stage where she has a thing to prove to anyone.
Again, she is not most artists. She doesn't need hits to sell albums. She doesn't need hits to find success. Still, 6 million SPS is 6 million SPS. An astronomical figure this day and age. How some are trying to spin this figure into a negative narrative is wild. Whoever constitutes that figure is irrelevant. It's still going down, by far, as the biggest album of its year of release, above all those albums with those coveted casual listeners.

So assuming there's no further push/video/remix this is gonna do about what Lavender Haze did no? Maybe a little worse. It's an OK result but it's kinda weird there's no mention of a video whatsoever.

I canβt imagine thereβs not a video ready to go. Maybe they are waiting to premier it at the VMAβs? She may not be able to be there with tour obligations, but sheβs nominated ten times. That could be a way to keep her central to the broadcast. I hope she can make it though. Sheβs always so fun at award shows.

I definitely agree most of the Anthology tracks were unnecessary minus a few, and without them its a much better album and solid piece of work that ranks among nearly her best! (not my favorite though). I also was not a huge fan of pretty much most of her first four albums and country stuff (minus some of the hits and a few album tracks), but 1989 marked a dramatic sea change for me, and ever since then I guess you could say I've loved every album she's put out!
So assuming there's no further push/video/remix this is gonna do about what Lavender Haze did no? Maybe a little worse. It's an OK result but it's kinda weird there's no mention of a video whatsoever. Spot on. Hard to say whether there will be a further push or video, with recent singles Cruel Summer and If It's Over Now not getting videos or strong and concerted further pushes.
I continue to have high hopes for it though, I really love the song, think it's really fun, upbeat, makes me happy, and of her better songs in a while. Let's remember that it's still at the beginning of its ascent post-push. Streaming, while low, is at least stabilizing, and the radio gains are still pretty sizable. It just might have an overall slower climb and not re-peak very highly, but hopefully like Lavendar Haze, will stick around for a while.
