Shocked that not one member has rationalized the #110 Spotify debut: - ‘But, if you take out Em’s album bomb, Zach’s 2nd week - coz he’s a strong streamer - so he’s hogging space - Roan’s viral placements, it would be at least #75 and you know it’s gonna grow when all the ‘women’ go back to work on Monday.’
The fact that WW didn’t even get curiosity 30-second spin from KP’s fanbase is a testament that nobody wanted this ‘anthem’

This is a huge stretch IMO. There's no way Katy Perry of all people sat down and thought "I'm gonna make a far-right anthem and disguise it as woke to trick them all." It's Katy Perry. She's always been a little out of touch on reality. We're talking about the same woman that gave us "Chained to the Rhythm." We knew 7+ years ago that her political takes are in the right place, but how she gets there is a mess and ultimately makes her look foolish. In reality, Katy Perry sat down with a bunch of other rich people and decided to make a song for female empowerment because they wanted to do something good, but the fell flat because none of them really know what it means to be a feminist. Good intentions, poor execution. She wasn't being malicious like this tweet implies. Not everything is a conspiracy. Sometimes, a rich woman tries to do a good thing and it ends up bad because she's been rich too long to actually empathize with the world around her. She made the feminist anthem equivalent to Target's Pride Month fashion. The real, true, glaring red flag is working with Dr. Luke again to go back to her roots when Bonnie McKee and Max Martin were right there. That's the one thing I don't understand. I guess in the years she worked with him they probably got close and she personally never experienced the same things others that worked with him did, so it's probably harder for her to cut those ties, especially after seeing him have success with other artists in the last few years, but damn... All these people working on her team and no one thought, "hey, maybe we shouldn't work with him, because Katy isn't a new artist desperately trying to make it and was actively involved with his abuse case, so people aren't going to turn a blind eye to that."

If WW is "right wing", she has absolutely nothing to worry about, considering Jason Aldean just got #1 on Hot 100 last year with a right-wing anthem. But doubt that MAGA people will line up to support this...

Let's not attribute this mentality to everyone who has critcisms of Katy in this thread. This clearly isn't indicative of everyone's thinking, is a one-off comment, and the poster is trolling. Please let's not feed into it. There's a few here, but yes, it's not everyone. You have the power to do something about it but continue to sit in here commenting stuff like this. Actually say something to said users publicly instead of these kind of comments. Like how is your response as a moderator to someone saying Katy should have a breakdown and deserves everything she is getting "Wow. I'm tapped out , yall got it😵💫😵💫😵💫"

Yes it is necessary to be that vicious because she still hasn’t learned by working with a known abuser on a women’s empowerment anthem. She’s mocking their pain and this is nothing new for her. The reviews are catching and savage for a reason and it’s not just because the song sucks. I don’t need you to agree. She’s getting what she deserves and I do hope it leads to another breakdown for her (which wasn’t even a legitimate breakdown - it was over a flop album). She’s trash. That's enough. It's perfectly fine to dislike Katy and the song, and offer constructive criticism, but saying the same thing over and over and over and over in such a confrontational manner is derailing the thread and contributing nothing constructive.
I encourage everyone to block and/or ignore the people who obviously are just trying to get reactions! We will continue watching this thread closely and take action as needed.
This is the kind of response I was looking for! Thank you because I can't believe for a while nobody from the mod team was acknowledging how awful these posts were. Your professionalism is appreciated!

LMAO @ that tweet, everything I hate about the internet. The song and video are an absolute thematic misfire, but that take is a joke.

What a messy start lol
Listened once and that was enough for me. This is hardly album track material, not single material... let alone a LEAD COMEBACK single.

The fact that she filmed a video on set explaining the video before it even came out, lol. But seriously, THAT'S what she was going for?

The funny thing is you could argue that this *is* right wing propaganda, but not because there arent any fat people or whatever, but because the music video and lyrics feel like a right-wing parody of "sjws" you'd find in 2016.
Obviously, that was not the intention, it's just that this brand of feminism has aged extremely poorly.

LMAO @ that tweet, everything I hate about the internet. The song and video are an absolute thematic misfire, but that take is a joke. It's not enough for people to just hate a song and leave it there. They now need to create narratives out of thin air to fuel more hate towards the artist for their own personal pleasure and social media engagement.

I don't think Katy is the artist to do satire.
All of this discourse is like the reaction to the satire in Jewel's "Intuition" video, who is another artist that hasn't pulled of satire well, for different reasons.
But the Dr. Luke + mid quality of the song + public perception of Katy + coming off two underperforming albums = *gestures at this thread + reviews & reactions*

Boooooooy that's not what the video was giving at ALL. I mean people are used to Katy Perry videos appealing to the male gaze and the video itself certainly doesn't lay out the "sarcastic" message well at all so I doubt anyone caught that message (though looking back the clinched boob shot was a bit much 😂). She says she goes to a different world, but she's kind of giving the same vibes throughout? Unless a gas pump in her a** cheek is supposed to be a female gaze thing? Point being there weren't any opposing shots to the opening. This satirical idea might have worked for a more serious artist but when you've shot whip cream out your t*its for a video there's nothing surprising or questionable about this to make one think it's not just business as usual. lol I will say I have seen critcisms of the video being anti-feminist because she's visually presenting the song in a bikini and I find that take absurd as the idea of feminism isn't about wearing a turtle neck and being clothed from head to toe, but about feeling empowered to dress in whatever way you choose (no matter how "scandalous") for yourself!

So is anyone else seeing the conspiracy theories from her fans? That she released something knowingly terrible to drum up controversy because more people are talking about her now than they have in years and then she is releasing, quickly, an amazing second single? I mean, the fan seemed pretty convincing lmao.

I mean, the fan seemed pretty convincing lmao. Except she's Katy F-ing Perry! It's not like she's Sade who literally vanishes for a decade. KP has been visible because of AI for several years + her music is still streamed. The fanbase is there - even if they are soccer moms now. If releasing a hot mess is a *strategy* - her team is worse than I ever imagined. After the Spotify number + no impact on Apple Music, radio will drop this as soon as the deals are done. Regardless, they need to release a new track Friday and pretend this never happened. It's the only option at this point.

I mean, the fan seemed pretty convincing lmao. Imagine for a moment if that were her plan. lol She purposely releases a contrived, banal, vapid, paint-by-numbers song & video with Dr. Luke to enrage and annoy/disappoint people to only then immediately drop an actual banger with brilliant visuals? That would be bold (the Luke part, quite foolish regardless) yet oddly iconic and unprecedented. Has any artist ever released a legitimate decoy lead? Obviously this is unlikely to be the scenario, but what an outrageous move that would be. 😂

Normally, I'd say its fan copium, but every other clip she has shared as been amazing and I literally cannot believe they would choose this song over any of them. Like, it does not make sense, at all.
