It's Katy Perry. She's always been a little out of touch on reality. We're talking about the same woman that gave us "Chained to the Rhythm." We knew 7+ years ago that her political takes are in the right place, but how she gets there is a mess and ultimately makes her look foolish.

In reality, Katy Perry sat down with a bunch of other rich people and decided to make a song for female empowerment because they wanted to do something good, but the fell flat because none of them really know what it means to be a feminist. Good intentions, poor execution. She wasn't being malicious like this tweet implies. Not everything is a conspiracy. Sometimes, a rich woman tries to do a good thing and it ends up bad because she's been rich too long to actually empathize with the world around her. She made the feminist anthem equivalent to Target's Pride Month fashion.

The real, true, glaring red flag is working with Dr. Luke again to go back to her roots when Bonnie McKee and Max Martin were right there. That's the one thing I don't understand. I guess in the years she worked with him they probably got close and she personally never experienced the same things others that worked with him did, so it's probably harder for her to cut those ties, especially after seeing him have success with other artists in the last few years, but damn... All these people working on her team and no one thought, "hey, maybe we shouldn't work with him, because Katy isn't a new artist desperately trying to make it and was actively involved with his abuse case, so people aren't going to turn a blind eye to that."

If WW is "right wing", she has absolutely nothing to worry about, considering Jason Aldean just got #1 on Hot 100 last year with a right-wing anthem.

But doubt that MAGA people will line up to support this...

All of this discourse is like the reaction to the satire in Jewel's "Intuition" video, who is another artist that hasn't pulled of satire well, for different reasons.

Boooooooy that's not what the video was giving at ALL. I mean people are used to Katy Perry videos appealing to the male gaze and the video itself certainly doesn't lay out the "sarcastic" message well at all so I doubt anyone caught that message (though looking back the clinched boob shot was a bit much 😂). Except she's Katy F-ing Perry! It's not like she's Sade who literally vanishes for a decade. KP has been visible because of AI for several years + her music is still streamed. The fanbase is there - even if they are soccer moms now.

If releasing a hot mess is a *strategy* - her team is worse than I ever imagined.

After the Spotify number + no impact on Apple Music, radio will drop this as soon as the deals are done.

Regardless, they need to release a new track Friday and pretend this never happened. It's the only option at this point.

Imagine for a moment if that were her plan. lol She purposely releases a contrived, banal, vapid, paint-by-numbers song & video with Dr. Luke to enrage and annoy/disappoint people to only then immediately drop an actual banger with brilliant visuals? That would be bold (the Luke part, quite foolish regardless) yet oddly iconic and unprecedented. Has any artist ever released a legitimate decoy lead? Obviously this is unlikely to be the scenario, but what an outrageous move that would be. 😂

I'm being an old person and when social media refreshes I can't seem to find shit on it. I'm trying though. Normally, I'd say its fan copium, but every other clip she has shared as been amazing and I literally cannot believe they would choose this song over any of them. Like, it does not make sense, at all.
