I expected ugly numbers. The rollout was a mess.
She can recover but honestly they need to pivot from this album fast and she gives me the impression she is not gonna be willing to sacrifice her beach trips for that.

Even if the album has disappointed commercially, she has enough hits to her name to likely still sell out a tour, so she'll be fine in that regard. I'm sure they're already planning Radical Optimism: The Seven Seas edition or something, so hopefully she has some hits there.

she reminds me of Ellie, exactly two top 5 hits each. But at least ellie was able to top spotify once (with love me like you do).

One poor album and she's supposed to turn into an indie artist?..
She's still got one of the most heavily streamed catalogues out there, she'll be fine lol

Dua literally dropped Houdini and then didn't do nothing for it, no late night promo or anything. Only an award show performance 3 months after release which at that point the song already came and went, during FN she had tons of promo for Don't Start Now so I don't know what she was thinking. She isn't on the level of Taylor or Beyonce where she can just drop a song or album randomly and have it be huge, she needs to do promo because her fanbase just isn't that big.
Doesn't help that she performed Training Season at the Grammy's and didn't even drop it officially until like 2 weeks later, I really just don't know how somebody can fumble so badly.

Now she does snl along with the album launch which makes sense but she'll probably end up doing Illusion and dance the night

I don’t see any universe where Houdini or TS were smashes under any circumstances (latter had no business ever being a single). I think coming off of her huge FN and Barbie momentum pretty much proved no one (who would realistically do those kind of songs) was making them big. I think it’s kind of that simple when it comes to those. Strangely enough though, I do think Houdini was probably correct for lead and they could’ve squeezed a bit more out of it with a much better video and aforementioned promo from her. Falling Forever was the smash as the 2nd single.

Falling Forever is horribly grating so I'd hope not. These Walls is nice though.

Dua has entered her “she’ll be fine” era. In my 20+ years on Pulse, no pop diva has escaped her “she’ll be fine” era.

Dua has entered her “she’ll be fine” era. In my 20+ years on Pulse, no pop diva has escaped her “she’ll be fine” era. The dramatics. Dua was never established in US, she was always a singles-artist who depended on multiple smash hits to make the total numbers/outcome fine. Never a first week or momentum type of artist. Even if this album doesn't manage hits, a re-release or new era could get one. This is similar to P!nk's "M!ssundaztood" to "Try This".

I don't like being alarmist but there's almost no way to spin these numbers as being good Wow. Only sub-16 million GLOBALLY? For the whole album? I did not think that was possible for someone in her position - but I suppose I did see the writing on the wall this whole year but I never would’ve predicted such a low number. Especially not when “Dance the Night” took off last year.

I mean DTN opened poorly too and then the movie saved it's ass. If they get a hit single soon it should be fine but I do reckon this time around the hit single isn't obvious and maybe they'll have to drop a deluxe or move on soon.

You know what you are so right I do remember it did not start that well, it worked its way up. I guess the issue there is this is the argument that should or probably was made for the singles leading up this album which have not managed that at all.

I wonder if the beef impacted Dua's numbers at all. Obviously her core audience isn't rap fans but this beef has gone far beyond rap

Mind you I don't even know what song she's promoting right now lol.
This Pink Friday 2 era was really fueled by the Barbz because aside from FTCU doing a lil damage back when the album dropped I never see anyone talking about the music. Her antics? Sure. The Night is Still Young thing at her concerts? The most fun she's ever been in years... The new music? Crickets.

That first part may be true but it doesn't change the fact that Kendrick needs to shut up. This new song is literally just him repeating himself for four minutes.

Which Grammys would you take back? I think he deserves more considering he lost Rap Album to Macklemore once, and he's never won AOTY. Anyway the "Not Like Us" beat is fire.

This is the first great rap beef we’ve had since Nas-Jay Z? 50-JaRule? I want this to keep going and see how Drake responds, especially since he’s not saying anything about that other allegation.
