Every artist is chart obsessed and that is fine. Billie pretends she doesn’t care about charts, despite recent activities, but Taylor simply owns it. So tell me why only one artist is considered ”not a girls girl” or “biblically greedy”

The gamesmanship is mind-boggling. And yet Billie's the problem?! i don't think either of them is a "problem"? they're both artists trying to maximize earnings this week. if people want to go along with that, it's their choice.

I don't have a dog in this fight but Taylor is quite possibly the pettiest artist in the world, I wish she'd go full mean girl instead pretending to be this feminist icon figure. She just played victim on reputation instead of going full on "yes I am a terrible person, but I don't care." This whole nice girl stuff is hilarious when she constantly contradicts herself with the stuff she does.

I hope no one blames Taylor for this. Blondie is obsessed about the chart but she is not that powerful to remove an album from Itunes, especially album from a main pop girl.

Ugh I need this to be o-v-e-r. Given that I love Taylor and want to think the best of her, when the first digital variant dropped I wanted to be in denial and think 'coincidence!' (similarly, I had hoped she had nothing to do with the 'Cruel Summer' credits). This is a mountain of evidence. Surely no one can be this delulu.
Billie looks like a hypocrite, but Taylor.... ugh. This kind of thing *does* make me worried she will go apesh*t on someone like Sabrina or Lana (made what *could* be perceived as negative comments about stadium tours last night). I get that she has been through situations where she was a victim, but she has been unable to reconfigure things in her head to see she has overcome them (in a very obvious and even extreme way). I guess in the way that outsized celebrity affects people this is a fairly low grade consequence compared to others, but she does seem to need therapy.

Taylor did the same to Drake and Pop Smoke. It's just about extending her weeks at #1. Taylor is trying to get the most career weeks at #1 of any artist. It's about competition with the Beatles and Michael Jackson for commerical domination. She doesn't believe in participation trophies. And Taylor is far from the only artist with that policy. Billie's team is the one saying shady things to the press while Taylor's camp hasn't responded at all to their provocations. Taylor's team is treating this like a business while Billie's managers has kept on liking negatives tweets about Taylor. TTPD is the more streamed album so her team isn't going to just surrender the #1 to any artist . (sidenote streaming is pretty energy intensive due to the fact that info about each song has to be continuously sent over the internet. downloads are more green and if people actually regularly listened to their vinyl instead of streaming that would also be more green). And the fortnight remix was dropped to keep fortnight in the top 10 not to block Billie whose top song will chart higher regardless. The producer is primarily a producer who has an environmental cause on the side. If the side activities of the producer matter to Taylor's team, it was likely more about countering her image as an eco-terrorist not Billie related. There's a number of things in this post I would like to see evidence for but I'd especially like to see stats on where TTPD is more streamed than HMHAS I am basing it of hitsdailydouble where if you do the math, taylor is projected to have 18K more streaming units than billie. it's projections so subject to change. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=341325&title=A-SHINY-TOP-20

I guess in the way that outsized celebrity affects people this is a fairly l grade consequence compared to others, but she does seem to need therapy. A pop artist doesn't need therapy for trying at #1. pop artists caring about the charts instead of laying out the red carpet for contenders is the default behavior. stans cared about billie's comment. we have no evidence that taylor even heard about them or cared. taylor has been shaded like that her whole career and for the most part ignores it. Taylor did the literally same thing to dead man during the folklore era. She did the same thing to Drake for Anti-Hero. In return, Lil Nas X did the same to her twice blocking Me! and YNCTD!. Taylor trying to stay at #1 is just her normal behavior. There's a reason why artists push up their releases to perform hers. Billie's comments might have upset the swifties but Taylor was going to this regardless. Pop artists don't give away weeks at #1 if they have the capability to keep their song/album on top. Taylor likely spent 5 minutes on this and then went back to spending time with her bf in europe. All this stuff was prepared to keep her album at #1 for extra weeks. The discussion was likely just about whether they should do it this week or next and with this week being an easy one to guarantee a week at #1 they utilized it. It was the shipped cd and vinyl that got her the #1 not digital memos or digital albums that barely anyone sold, and she was always going to ship them this week or next (sold with a ship by 31st). Taylor having the #1 guaranteed next week but not this week was what made the decision easy for her.

She just played victim on reputation instead of going full on "yes I am a terrible person, but I don't care." lol. This is the kind of stuff I mean when I say some people have zero ability to have a nuanced opinion/conversation about Taylor. The slightest thing she does can bring about full tilt damnation with some in the same way people say some other praise everything she does.

(similarly, I had hoped she had nothing to do with the 'Cruel Summer' credits). This is a mountain of evidence. Surely no one can be this delulu. Billie looks like a hypocrite, but Taylor.... ugh. Delusional to what though? As someone who claims to like Taylor, what has she done wrong in this situation? Leaned into the drama too much? Tried to secure herself another week at #1? She didn’t actually say anything on record about Billie, so you are discerning all of these feelings from her dropping variants and pushing her album? Albeit she pushed hard this week, but this has truly been the first week that the top spot was in jeopardy. It could have been any other artist releasing this week, she would have used the same strategy. Call Taylor petty or calculated or whatever, but she is a businesswoman first and foremost and business people don’t just roll over to competition for charity’s sake, and they don’t let people try to soil their names without pushing back. The only remotely “shady” thing that she/her team pulled is the Fortnight Remix with the environmentalist producer. But even then, none of it is direct and all of it is implied just the same way Billies comments and actions are implied to be directed at Taylor. Taylor has been criticized for months for her jet-fuel usage while others in the actual top 10 didn’t experience the same level of backlash… how convenient that as Billie is about to release her new album, she shades other “top artists” for releasing too many variants and polluting the Earth. Whether she was directing the comment at Taylor, sometimes context clues and reading between the lines paints someone’s perception. I know I have my rose-colored Taylor glasses on but I really don’t understand some of the reactions in this thread this week. Why did Taylor owe Billie et al any sort of grace or favor in this situation? Now if she would have done this to Sabrina Carpenter or Selena Gomez my option would be significantly different, but Taylor being friendly to Billie over the years means nothing when it comes to the music industry and competing for the pole position. We’re on a forum literally dedicated to music charts, and even when radio programming and fan-fueled mass buying/streaming subjectively affects the outcome of the charts, we are all still here tracking songs on radio and hoping our fave artist charts high on the album and singles chart. Maybe y’all want albums to chart naturally instead of using promotional tactics? But that doesn’t happen very often either when all of the top artists have massive labels and machines behind them working in the background to autoplay their newest single or payola their way to #1. But again, this isn’t a TAYLOR problem, it’s the entire music industry working as a business and not just some indie art museum where everyone gets a ribbon for participating.

'claims to like Taylor' lol @ this bad faith engagement. Maybe not that many people on this forum know me, but anyone who does would know the bulk of my posts are about Taylor and typically come in the form of praise. Please point to me where *I* said she should roll out the red carpet for other artists or be dragged for her jet usage. Taylor's outsized fame causes her to often take the fall for things that others do as well. This is not the case here. Actually, *YES* she has 'leaned into the drama too much. You know what you can do when someone who is far less successful than you takes swipes at you? Ignore them! Billie's comments were annoying and ultimately hypocritical but that does not merit a torrent of retaliation. This is not Scooter Braun or Kanye West. I've also already said (twice) I think Billie is being messy, too. They both look bad. As far as I recall, this is the most Taylor has ever done in a single non-debut week to retain a top spot. It is far too clear of a coincidence that it is Billie's release week. If you want to bury your head in the sand, that's your prerogative. The fact that I find this behavior distasteful doesn't mean I suddenly don't like her or her music or think she's an inherently evil person. Nuance is something more members of this board could learn about!

But again I’ll ask you, what did she owe Billie? Why did Billie deserve a free pass at #1 or to get to the top spot uncontested? Should Taylor have to change her promo strategy just because another female artist is releasing new music? She didn’t do it for Dua. She didn’t do it for Sza, and hell, Sza came out on top in their chart battle. What makes Billie any different? All is fair in love, war and chart battles. I think Taylor has spent her entire career being “the bigger person” and turning the other cheek on people who have tried to belittle her, tried to undermine her success, tried to sabotage her, and tried to put her in her place. Why is she expected to just be the bigger person? I’m glad she’s finally calling people out on their bullshit. “Ginny and Georgie” writers tried to slut-shame her, she tweeted about it. Scooter Braun tried to sabotage her, she re-recorded. Billie implies today’s top artists are polluting the planet, she releases digital variants. No more playing nice with people who don’t deserve it. She learned the hard way with Kim and Kanye.

Throughout folklore's run at #1, there were multiple weeks she would drop limited time merch and signed copies, in order to get the #1 over pop smoke who was literally dead. she dropped multiple remixes to block drake's rich flex. taylor has always evolved her tactics based on the sales environment to ensure her maximum weeks at #1. this time it's no different. taylor has always wanted to maximize her chart success. it's fine if that turns you off her but she hasn't done a torrent of retaliation. she is just doing her normal chart greedy tactics but stans love to see everything from the prism of drama. Taylor and her team have literally said nothing about billie not even through friendly sources at et or people. in contrast, billie manager's is out likely hate tweets about taylor and her team is leaking to hitsdailydouble that they are pissed and yet billie still doesn't care about the charts. And Billie is no small artist. She is another mega artist with a multiple million dollar marketing campaign behind her who set up this stan frezy unprovoked. Billie is just getting treated like an equal not a child who deserves a participation trophy.

The girl could cure cancer and people would still say it wasn't nice and she's a slut because she didn't end world hunger as well. She's doing what she has to do to further advance her career, and someone like Billie, who has no ties to her doesn't deserve #1 just because. I've seen it all week "she should let Billie have the #1" what warrants the fact that Billie should get a #1 free and clear for no reason. I said from the begging if she wanted it she should fight, she did, but she lost fair and square. I do believe Taylor is responsible for Billie's album going unavailable for a few hours. I do. Let's hear this one. Tell us how?

Taylor has been through more in this industry than anyone alive today? Where? How? She's had a largely seamless and scandal free career. Every single mega-star that came before her had it way harder. The way Taylor has weaponized professional victimhood and toxic feminism was a masterstroke though. Because a lot of her fans have truly drank the Kool-Aid.
And for the umpteenth time, nobody thinks Taylor should "let Billie have #1." We're disgusted that Taylor has released the dozenth unnecessary variant of this album to extract even more money from her fans. We're disgusted at the devaluation of physical product and albums because she needs another money grab. The fact that she's obviously doing it to block another artist is just another layer to it. Again, none of this is hard to comprehend, why are you still running the same irrelevant talking points into the ground. You look insane.

Taylor and Billie are playing the same game but Taylor doesn't pretend she is above it all.

We've all been complaining about artists dropping these quickie deluxes right after they release an album making the physicals worthless. Taylor has taken this to absolutely obscene levels, further than anyone else. We don't need the biggest artist in the world continuing to set this precedent when they don't need to pull these tactics to move units. I don't care if she owns it or doesn't feel above it, how does that make it better?

Billie is now on record saying that three hour concerts are “psychotic” and “nobody wants that” so… give us “Guilty as Sin (Live)” next!

^ I was kidding, but I think that’s an older quote from Barbie press. She said the three hour shows are psychotic thing on Stationhead last night:
“Doing a 3 hour show.. That's literally psychotic. Nobody wants that. You guys don't want that. I don't want that. I don't even want that as a fan. Even my favorite artists l'm not trying to hear them for 3 hours. That's far too long. That's literally psychotic."
Again, I’m not taking any of this seriously. Billie can say/do whatever she wants. Taylor can say/do whatever she wants. I'm just entertained!

The context The Tortious Swifties Derangement conveniently wish to ignore: The part you included was from a separate interview from last year. The psychotic comments are from a live stream from yesterday. To be fair to Billie, she was replying to fans on a live stream who were demanding a concert of that length. Billie hasn't realized that there is a big demand for a feud between her and taylor and so needs to watch her word to prevent them from being misconstrued.

People have been down right awful to her throughout the span of her career. I'm not the one that looks *insane* because you're acting pressed over Taylor's varients but not Billie's. You're being as hypocritical as Billie.

This girl has been through more in this industry than anyone alive today. While it is 100% not a competition of “who’s been through the most”, I have to call out this ridiculous comment. Go and read the news about Cassie and maybe loop back. A quick skim of what happened to Kesha too while you’re at it. And maybe, er, Britney Spears?

You look insane because you're pressed over Taylor's varients but not Billie's. You're being as hypocritical as Billie. Mean? Are you serious? Where are these people being so awful to her? I lived through Michael Jackson's scandals. Madonna's Sexbook. Janet's Superbowl incident. Mariah's nervous breakdown. Britney's public downfall and conservatorship. Whitney's tragic downfall through drug addiction. The list goes on and on. Actual career threatening scandals and a press machine designed to rip them to shreds. I watched the media gleefully tear these people down all while a complicit public sat back and gawked and laughed. Taylor has never once had a moment like that in her career. The press largely treats her with kid gloves, the critics love her, she has a huge dedicated fanbase. The only "negative" mainstream running commentary about her is her love life, something she made a keystone of her career. And every celebrities love life is front and center, we've been seeing non-stop coverage of Ariana Grande and Jennifer Lopez for months. This narrative you keep trying to create where Taylor has had it so hard has never been reality. And did you literally not just see my post where I said any artist doing this is gross? I swear to f**king God.

This is hilarious. Taylor is competitive and petty as fuck and I love it. Yeah I’m amused at how dramatic this thread has been. Ultimately… who cares? None of this really matters imo. Billie is now on record saying that three hour concerts are “psychotic” and “nobody wants that” so… give us “Guilty as Sin (Live)” next! I want someone to REALLY piss her off so she can release physicals of the anthology. C’mon Katy!
