I’m so glad this is the most streamed song on Spotify instead of some of the other top songs (Shape of You, Someone You Loved, etc). Instead of growing off me, it’s actually gotten better the more I listen to it. same here. It was annoying when it was popular for me, but now it’s just so good

2. When Doves Cry - Prince (1984) Points: 448 (141 below #3) Standard Deviation: 13.99487086 (#26 LOWEST) 1980s placement: 1/10!!!!
Contrary to what people were predicting this was never #1 at any point! But it's still a great song and well deserved placement! Wait my top 3 was the top 3. Yay! But out of the 3, I wasn’t expecting Gangstas Paradise to win.

And now I ask this question, will we be doing Year End number 2s all the way to 100? Removing repeats, or probably bad idea as this will take like 10 years to complete maybe even more.

if there's any good to come out of billboard cutting off 3 weeks from their tracking period or whatever in 1966, it's that this was the ye #1 and not fucking ballad of the green berets (to california dreamin) The version with California Dreamin was the original YE list. The updated one had Ballad of the Green Berets (which I would guess would have been #66 on this RD for sure) and was the one I used in the rankdown I hosted 2 years ago. The updated version had 2 changes - first, the songs that went to #1 got a boost by getting extra points, based on the number of weeks they were at #1 (so songs like "Wild Thing", BOTGB, and "Summer In the City" got boosted majorly from this) but songs like "California Dreamin" dropped because they didn't go to #1 (CD went to #4 - but on the original majorly benefitted due to spending more weeks than most other songs - it spent 17 weeks, whereas BOTGB only spent 13, yet was #1 for 5 weeks). The second change was it added the December weeks, which gave it 5 additional songs, meaning "You Keep Me Hangin On" and "Good Vibrations", for example, made the list on the updated version but didn't on the original) Just as a note, 17 weeks was actually a lengthy chart run in the 60s, now it would be literally nothing

10. California Dreamin' - The Mamas & The Papas (1966) (42): Interesting and didn't expect this song to have the 2nd highest SD. This is a really good and enjoyable song. I'm not too mad about this being the highest standing song from the 60s. But also pleased with this being the first out of the Top 10 as this is my least favorite of the Top 10 songs. 9. We Belong Together - Mariah Carey (2005) (3): 4th lowest SD is nice here. But ugh bummer as I was really hoping for this to make it to the Top 5. Reallly love this song a ton and it's up there as amongst one of my very favorite Mariah songs. It's such a stunning and catchy song and she sings it amazingly, as expected. Very happy that there are no rankings in the 50s or 60s. 8. Somebody That I Used to Know - Gotye ft Kimbra (2012) (33): Ooh okay, this is my lowest ranked song of this Top 8 so I'm pleased with this showing up now. This is a great and solid duet and I enjoy what both artists bring to this song. 7. Careless Whisper - George Michael (1985) (16): Oooh yess, I really love this song a ton. It's such a classic. Love the smoothness of this song and the saxophone. George sounds fantastic on the song and love how he sings this. I think this is probably my favorite song of his so I am glad it was represented on this list. Nice at no Bottom 18 ranks. 6. Rolling in the Deep - Adele (2011) (9): Yess, such a good classic and iconic song from Adele. I love how much attitude and sass she has with selling this song, along with her strong killer vocals. Another song that stands out as my favorite song of hers! Okay the Top 5 consists of my: #1, 6, 12, 21. Not too bad. 5. Blinding Lights - The Weeknd (2020) (13): Wow I'm kinda shocked that this wasn't the last standing song from the 2020s, as I predicted that it would be. :o This is so good, so fun and catchy. Love how The Weeknd sounds on this and love the retro sound of this. It sounds good in today's music scene but can also fit in well with the 80s classics. Hmm kinda wish I had swapped this with my #12 but the newness for this probably worked against it, lol. 4. Levitating - Dua Lipa (2021) (21): Ooh wow, so "Levitating" just barely beat out "Blinding Lights." :o I had a feeling it would be close but didn't expect this song to win out, though Dua songs always rank highly. Anyway, I do love this and it's such a fun, catchy and addicting song. I don't know if my ranking is too low or too high but it's newness worked against its favor as it hasn't stood the test of time like the classics and modern classics here. Ahh it's insane to see most of the ranks from #3 to #35 and then seeing a #60 and #65. 3. Yeah! - Usher ft Ludacris & Lil Jon (2004) (1): Ughh dangg, "Yeah!" was sooo close and I'm so sad this couldn't pull off the win. This is an absolute banger, classic and iconic song. I loved this so much when it was out and it was my favorite song of 2004. And I still got a lot of strong love for this. This song just slays and never gets old. I can never get tired of this. Happy to see this make it this far! Now it's my #6 vs. #12. Both are iconic songs and I love them both. Rooting for my #6 to win but expecting my #12 to win instead. 2. When Doves Cry - Prince (1984) (12): Oooh woww, a shocker here! I was feeling and getting pretty convinced that "When Doves Cry" was going to win so I'm shocked it didn't. This is a classic and it's just simply so good! Prince sounds great and the music/singing/feel of this song is so mesmerizing and fantastic. I get the strong love for this. I love it too but just connect with other songs more. Shocked that this was never #1 at any point when lists were coming in - especially with 14 #1s! :o Woww that's an insane amount of #1s to not even win or runaway with the competition here. Nicee at no rankings in the 50s and 60s. 1. Gangsta's Paradise - Coolio & L.V. (1995) (6): OMG and wow a song with only two #1s ends up winning. Wow that's insane and iconic. I knew this song would do well and be a contender to be in the Top 10 but wow, I was not expecting this to win it! But yeah this song is a classic, timeless, amazing and just.... I don't have enough good words for this. Love how Coolio raps on this and what he raps. Love the chorus/singing from L.V. This just a well put together song and I just love it a ton. Very happy to see this pull out the win! Oooh 24th place with a 13.90 isn't too bad at all. I'll take that as that's better than how I usually do in rankdowns. 1 perfect rank is decent. Thank you for hosting this rankdown, poopshark! This was a lot of fun to participate in and follow along to!

Probably Year End #2's, but I doubt every number will be done. I feel like we'd finish all the 60s and 70s rankdowns before that happens.

I had guessed Gangsta's Paradise as a possible #1 before it started (mainly because it was the first one to come to mind as I didn't remember most of what else would be in contention...) but wouldn't have actually expected it. Certainly a pleasant surprise and good choice! Good job Pulse!
Thanks for hosting! Twas fun!
