Ouch....my head, my neck, my back, my SOUL. What the fuck is THIS?! One listen and maybe after first chorus, already hooked but I was flat-out HEADBANGING toward the end. Cirkut and Andrew Watt did their thing, but...this is all Gaga, in ALL her glory. Hooks for DAYS with this one. The Ah, ahhhh ALONE. Easily her best first single and one of her best pop songs period. I was afraid it was going to be unbearably noisy and abrasive, based on some of the comments I have seen, but jeez. What a BANGER.

Truly this couldn't be more her sound in 2024 and I'm so glad she went for it. I can't get the hook out of my head! And I can't wait for the video.

All the good reviews and coverage in the beginning bodes well for the song. If a song/album/era gets pinned with negative press or reviews from the very first seconds, it becomes almost impossible to shake no matter what is planned for promo and no matter how good the material (that's connected) that follows is.

seeing as theres no video or physicals announced for this song, I wouldn't be surprised if this drops massively after this week and they send out a second single relatively quickly.

The pre-chorus is sooooooooooooooo catchy - I hope TikTok picks it up.
And the song itself is a grower, I've listened three times and it hits much better now.

That's a really good debut! It's only because the whole top 20 is so strong right now in the US.
This debut is pretty close to DWAS.

I agree - and the only other big pop recent debut from a contemporary peer would be Katy Perry "Woman's World" which did about the same on radio (she had more AC / HAC support, but less spins on pop for the first day) and she had half the streaming day 1 (about 2m global, 500k US). So it's a pretty strong start. Curious to see how it holds up. Also before anybody comes at me, I am not trying to start a Gaga vs Katy war. Just sharing first day numbers because those are relatively organic comparisons. |

This lacks the universal appeal to pull a DWAS where it rocketed to the top after people started hearing it. This really is right up there with PI as her most niche single imo. It at least has the edge over that in that it will appeal to the bulk of the core standom, whereas PI was alienating even on that front.
And for the vid, the only explanation for why she wouldn’t have dropped with the song or yesterday is that she wants to actually release on Halloween. We know it’s horror inspired from the clips, it will be the biggest wtf ever if she’s waiting until Nov. But I think waiting at all was a mistake, could’ve really used a spooky season vid this whole week to rack up a much higher debut.

It's an OK start if she can pull some legs or grow from it; but tbh social media is dead silent about this which is never a great sign. Overall maybe the video helps, but if not then I do hope there's a safe second single choice planned for next year. She can more or less get by for the rest of the year with DWAS and whatever this song does.
