Abel might have the #1, but Playboi Carti actually released a song just now and it could be a potential contender as his fanbase is really massive right now.

I like it a lot, and it does very much sound like #1 material. I hope for the best for him, I'd love to see it go #1.

Dancing in the flames is great. Idk about a #1 debut with how Abel's songs usually debut but I rhink it could reach the top in a few weeks when radio picks up. It has a really great autumn vibe

The Weeknd song sounds nice but its nothing special coming from him. Playboi Carti just released his first single on all platforms since WLR. I wonder how it'll debut considering that he has a huge fanbase rn.
New Tate McRae sounds like a moderate hit. Will it do better than Greedy? Doubt it.

Dancing in the Flames is mid. It is a weak pop song from The Weeknd. Katy Perry's new song I'm His, He's Mine is more catchy due to the sample.

Sales and YouTube starts for Dancing in the Flames aren't that good...
Obviously it's still early but there are 4 huge factors working against Dancing in the Flames:
1. The GP is tired of new synthpop songs. Only 1 song in the top 25 of the global year-end is synthpop (we can't be friends) and it happens to be extremely similar in cadence, melody, production to this new song, so the GP could be burnt out on this song before they even hear it. 2. The Weeknd's synthpop releases have all flopped since Save Your Tears. His 2 major hits since SYT were R&B flavored (OOTG/Popular) 3. All Shot on iPhone songs either flopped or had horrible longevity. Major ones being Stupid Love, get him back!, Look At Her Now. Only Lose You To Love Me did ok but still fell off quickly. Obviously this is kind of a more superstitious factor but it's still kind of funny 4. The song itself is low key Disneyfied and not classy and mature like Save Your Tears or Blinding Lights. It has a really sappy melody that sounds like it's for children

I can't see Dancing in the Flame debuting at #1, and it doesn't sound like a smash hit to me. When I heard it on the stream for his Sao Paulo concert, it sounded like a big hit, but now that I've heard the final product, it kinda sounds lifeless and the mixing is weird? I really like the song and the vibe, but I think he needed something more PUNCHY for the lead single, but who knows, I thought Flowers and As It Was were weak leads, so yeah...

the song is great and one of the best pop releases of the year but I agree that it's not something that people will likely latch onto instantly, though I see it performing well in the long run. The question for me is whether that strategy makes any sense, because I expect Abel to release the album soon. I do think that a more trap-inspired escape room song, and he played two songs like that from what I remember, would have a higher debut

I'm predicting a high debut, sharp dropoff in the next week, and for it to stay within the top 50 for a few months. I don't see it outright flopping, but I do agree with others in the thread saying its sound is just not what the GP cares about right now.

The Weeknd has been very hit and miss on the charts post After Hours. Even big streaming hits like the two Idol singles relatively struggled stateside. I don't think #1 should even be expected and I don't get why some people are acting like it's a flop if it doesn't start at the summit.

^Not to mention that The Weeknd hasn't actually debuted at #1 with a song yet.

So, what happened to all these record pre-orders and his website crashing because of it? I would think that if anything would lead to a #1 debut.

^Not to mention that The Weeknd hasn't actually debuted at #1 with a song yet. Technically, but "Heartless" did jump to #1 on it's first full week. He certainly can get that type of demand, it just doesn't seem like right now he's quite there.

The Weeknd is a big streaming force, anything could happen. Especially since it feels like he's been gone so long. The debut doesn't concern me, I'm more concerned if this sound has long-term prospects in 2024.

One thing to note about the Dancing In The Flames official video, it was shot with one of the newly announced iPhones. So, I expect Apple to use it to advertise that new model, which should give the song additional visibility.

Everyone had totally written The Weeknd off as over when Heartless hit #1 (nearly) out of the gate. So no one should ever discount the idea of a #1 debut for him.

The two week top ten, yes Tbh, Iβm getting big time vibes of a Heartless type of chart run for this. I can see at least a top 3 debut (maybe #1) followed by just a few weeks in the top ten. Probably still more than 2 bc Heartless got kept out by holiday songs.

I think #1 is possible even with iffy streams if the single sells well, he's shipped a bunch of CD singles and the song is doing decent on iTunes right now. I could see sales and radio making up for potentially mediocre streaming numbers.
Abel is a huge streaming force but I'm having Dawn FM ptsd right now, I like the song but I also loved Take My Breath and that didn't perform great. I'm hoping audiences like it but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend it's a definite #1 smash because it can easily debut #6 and drop like Take My Breath. I think everyone needs to temper their expectations with this song.
