If you're surprised by Carti's debut then you're just not paying attention. his album will be the most hyped release of 2024 with over a year of build-up. This man is challenging for the rop spot in the rap game and I think he'll open better than Travis did with Utopia. I could see him breaking the NLU record for a rap song, and All Res could definitely still grow in streams
We are, and I just reviewed his chart history for good measure, and other than a couple of moderate performing albums and decently-sized top 10 hits, all of which were low-profile features and collabs from the past few years, what is there to clearly indicate a huge Spotify and Apple #1 debut would've been in the cards? I'm not a big fan of rap by any means, but I'm also not aware of any major building hype or major critical acclaim for him from the rap community. I did also listen to the song, and though I'm not the best judge of rap, I didn't see anything special or "mainstream-y" about it in a way that would take off. Plus I also see it had a huge day 2 drop on Spotify, so maybe it was initial curiosity more than anything from minor building hype over the years. The song he featured on and carried to #1 just 6 months ago is a good indicator. he hardly releases solo material so in that case there's not much of a pattern to go off of, but it's the same thing that makes everything he puts out so impactful. Carti is beloved by his fanbase which has grown immensely since his last album in 2020, and it only continues to grow. they just haven't had an abundance of new music to play until this year and when they didn't have new music from Carti they just listened to artists on his label (2 of them now have top charting albums in their own right), which brings back home the original point of - if you're surprised then maybe you're just not paying attention |

Nah but Secrets, Love To Lay, True Colors, Rockin, and A Lonely Night from Starboy all say hi…. Getting sick of Starboy, we should circle back to After Hours. Hardest To Love is a smash waiting to happen. |

Carti has build his status with high profile features (Type Shit, FE!N and Carnival), but only FE!N has had remarkable legs in terms of Hot 100 success. I wouldn't expect All Red to have them either, especially after listening to the track couple of times. It might debut in top 15-20 though which would be great for him. Don’t forget Popular. His verses on that song and Carnival is getting popular on Tiktok was huge for him. Not to mention that Sky gets viral every month there. But I am not sure All Red will blow up. It’s tumbling down if anything. He needs a good song fo it to actually stick. |

I really enjoy the original but the acoustic version is so pretty. It also fits neatly into current trends so there's that, but it also feels as if Abel finally released a wedding song with this one so I know now what's playing when that happens in my life

I think people are simply over the retro 80s synthpop sound after hearing it everywhere in music since 2020 and Abel happens to be closely associated with it. Nearly every song featuring this sound has flopped throughout the year so far.

But DAWN FM's overshadowed timing and shitty marketing really did it wrong. "Is There Someone Else?" should have been the single instead of "Sacrifice" - and I still think it's his catchiest non-single from any era today. |

He either needs to emergency drop a remix with Ariana or quickly drop a second single that isn't synthpop.

I don't think people dislike this, they're just over this sound, and especially when you have at least 10 better Abel songs from that genre. It's really been there - done that, and if he wants big success, he has to get out of his comfort zone. The best idea would be to release a 2nd (darker) single before Halloween, and then the album in January, but I really doubt it. Also, please no to another Ariana remix, I want a proper single from them. Really not worried, I knew this won't be a hit for him the second I finished listening for the first time, and he doesn't have a fanbase like Taylor to keep him in the 1-2M area for a month or two, even when the GP ignores it. Abel's career is full of ups and downs and totally unpredictable, it's like people write him off, and then he basically "debuts" at #1, falls out of the top 10 the following week, after that he scores the biggest Hot 100 hit and the most streamed song of all time, and the next single barely charts for 15 weeks even with Doja's involvement, the next single is also one of the biggest hits of the decade, and then his new era completely underperforms, and soon after that he scores two mega hits, and also two big streaming hits from his infamous tv show. You never know with Abel, his last album was released 2,5 years ago and he still has 11 songs over 1M daily streams (I think he's tied with Sabrina for the most) and has like 40M streams every day. It really shows there's a demand for his music, but if people don't feel the song, they won't listen to it on repeat just because he's The Weeknd. I mean, he's my favorite artist, but not sure I heard the song more than 10 times since it came out. |

I'm here for it tho. Honestly I like when this board gets a little stan-ny, I miss the days of Meg and phieagles driving discussion for pages on end haha, gave me an interesting read in the evening when I checked the posts over the past day  |
