What happened? Spring was a very active time for charts and music that we got unpredictable songs on Spotify charts. None of that is happening right now. Radio seems to be unable to let certain songs go even with successful followups. Espresso, shaboozey and Benson are all gaining spins at top 40

this is just ... awful. If this is next Monday's top 10, average weeks in the top 10 will be 19.5 weeks Beautiful Things 25 Lose Control 39 Please Please Please 18 Good Luck, Babe 13 Taste 7 Die With A Smile 8 Espresso 25 I Had Some Help 22 Birds Of A Feather 14 A Bar Song 24 even songs in the top 15: MILLION DOLLAR BABY (17), Not Like Us (21), Too Sweet (19). Close enough. Welcome back early 2022!

Meh the hits in the top 10 deserve more weeks very much unlike 2022, given how strong they were, they need more inverse points for decade-end charts

That’s way different compared to the top spot getting hogged for three months by Disney movie soundtrack and an overplayed to death song by a one-hit-wonder indie group that should’ve left the chart last fall. Two mediocre songs from Ed and Bieber each, that stuck around like glue because radio had nothing else to fill their slots with and Kodak Black almost scoring a #1 hit.

In the Spring, even excluding the The Tortured Poet's first week, there were many days with songs in the top 10 reaching 2-5 million+. Now, the #1 is barely reaching 2 million. It does look a little suspicious, that numbers would turn around so drastically.

the last several weeks have been so dead I forgot how busy the charts were at this time, wow! Yeah, but weren't there many days earlier this year where only a few songs were clearing 1 million daily streams? At least we aren't [quite] in those days. 85la maybe things are settling back down to that time. What happened? Spring was a very active time for charts and music that we got unpredictable songs on Spotify charts. None of that is happening right now. Radio seems to be unable to let certain songs go even with successful followups. Espresso, shaboozey and Benson are all gaining spins at top 40 You but this can't all be blamed on radio. "A Bar Song" is still #1 on Streaming Songs, and "Espresso" is #7 there. Plus Benson's song and Teddy's song are both in the top 12 on streaming.

Right but it almost seems like radio is holding on to these songs because they're still doing well on streaming instead of pushing for the followups.

I’m content with A Bar Song breaking the record. I’m serious when I say it’s one of the best songs released this year. Long #1s are rarely this good. Let’s finally reward quality.

I think there is still a lot of ground for A Bar Song to be the longest #1 of all time though. This week now is what, 14 or 15? It still would have another 4-5 weeks to just tie and then would still need another to pass it. I think Morgan's team is going to go hard in 2 weeks so I feel like it might be blocked but could come back the following? who knows I guess c

It would be kind of wild (and cool) if "A Bar Song" gets to at least 17 weeks at #1 because then the top 2 songs with the most weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 would both be country songs by a Black man!
The holiday season will be interesting because we'll see if Brenda Lee continues her momentum to truly take over the Hot 100 this season, or if Mariah remains in contention and gets to 16 weeks at #1 or even to 19.
The next 3 months offer a lot of potential for records being matched if not broken.

Huge Morgan fan here... but curious why we think Morgan's team is going to go super hard for a #1 in a few weeks when they've never really truly pushed for that. They've always kind of let his songs do what they do without much added push.
Do we even know if they have anything planned besides the new song dropping? That's kind of been their only strategy: drop the song, send it for adds on Country. Most of his singles don't even have music videos.

^Kind of a Drake of Country music. Except Drake doesn't appear to be aiming to be added on radio anymore in most cases.

Plus, they've been previewing that Morgan track online and on social media for months. I feel like it has a bit more hype than his typical single.

Also, can artists stop teasing a song for months and release it when the hype slows down?

Wasn't it that one Morgan stan who said there would be a CD single for whatever his next song is? I think that was only thrown out there because that tends to be a part of every pop girl's big #1 debut push in recent times, so they assumed that Morgan would similarly pull out all the same stops.

Morgan has also never been a big physical seller, so I really doubt a CD single would move the needle much for him in a race to #1. He always streams strong, he just needs radio on board if they want a splashy debut, which doesn't look likely as they are still promoting "Lies Lies Lies" to country radio.

I think now Morgan has even more visibility after his song with Post Malone. I'm sure that brought in some new fans that will be curious. It will be an exciting time for the chart !

I think this in itself is what's carrying his potential "big" splash on the chart... However, Morgan has never debuted #1 (except with IHSH which is a bit of an outlier, though his fanbase largely propelled it on its first week) and the fact Country is currently on "Lies, Lies, Lies" and his label will surely push that to #1 (probably by next month), I'm not sure streams and a few sales will get him to #1. But, as a fan, I'd love that!

I don't think Morgan unto himself is guaranteed a #1 debut, but this song sounds huge to me. Like it has the potential to be the biggest crossover hit of his career. I can see it coming out of the gate really strong at multiple radio formats, streaming and sales. Knocking Bar Song off is a tall order, but he definitely has the potential with the right song.

I wonder if they'll go the "Last Night" route and push it to pop first and then country shortly after (presumably after "Lies Lies Lies" hits #1).
