Yeah, there’s already big revisionist history if anyone is saying we were predicting a #1 debut for Gaga. All anyone said is it was possible under the right circumstances. The right circumstances having to do with the song itself first and foremost, and no I don’t think this song was ever debuting at #1 no matter what now that we’ve heard it. Something as universal as DWAS is though totally could have imo. I mean... "everything is possible under the right circumstances." The point of the original post was that it was, in that poster's mind, realistic that Gaga could debut #1. However, that was never really the case and that is being proven with the performance of this song. Gaga fans really ran with DWAS being a hit solely because of her. I won't discredit her merit, because I think something clicked with the collaboration itself. It will never be only because of Gaga or only because of Bruno. But DWAS was never going to "boost" Gaga or be an insight into how solo Gaga would perform. I don't think the song is "underperforming." I think this is exactly how a 2024 solo Gaga song is expected to perform. I wouldn't call it a flop like some people have. This part is so not true: “Gaga fans really ran with DWAS being a hit solely because of her.” When have Little Monsters ever said the song is doing well SOLELY because of her. Everyone has been saying it’s a joint effort on here. I’ve only seen haters discrediting her. Am I missing something?

Yeah they’re just making that up. The narrative around DWAS has been entirely #ThankYouBruno or giving them equal credit.

I wonder if "Thriller" can crack the top ten this year? Last year it would have been #9 (instead of #21) if not for the 1989 (Taylor's Version) bomb. And points are fairly low this year.
If it happens it will mark the 7th consecutive decade Michael has appeared in the top ten, since "I Want You Back" landed in the region during the very last week of 1969.

I wonder if Addison Rae will debut higher than Lady Gaga on Spotify. I guess she didn't - and she is nowhere on the level of going top 20 on Spotify with name alone without big viral hype. Megan's and Halsey's albums are really flopping....

Not sure if you're being sarcastic here or what, but yes, opening only at #16 on U.S. Spotify and 60-ish as of now on Apple Music is kind of failing for her, especially since people were saying this might debut at #1 or possibly the top 10 on the Hot 100. Yes, it's just the first day, but unless it somehow surges and drastically turns around in streams over the next few days, this first day is very telling. Nope, no sarcasm. I’ve never been up on streaming numbers and what’s considered good. I’d been of the understanding that new songs rarely start off high in streams and that it takes time to reach a certain point. How much time? I’ve no idea. Also, I don’t think anyone said it would debut #1 on the Hot 100. The discussion before it was released was whether it was possible and people were either saying not a chance or, sure, in the right situation, which is pretty logical to me. 85la didn't say anyone said it "would" debut at #1. In the very post you reply to 85la had written "people were saying this might debut at #1 or possibly the top 10 on the Hot 100." "Might" is not "would," and then 85la even added "or possibly the top 10" which proves the point even more. So, shakemaki it wasn't revisionist history.

Gaga's single had a huge drop everywhere. If they don't do something it may struggle to go Top 20.

Depends on if there’s a difference between “might” and “could”. Before its release, and before any numbers or anything, saying it “could” debut at #1 suggests the possibility is there but that it’s not an actual prediction being made (generally speaking, I’d say nearly anything ‘could’ happen when it comes to charts because we’ve seen so many instances of artists defying odds with the right circumstances. See “Flowers” by Miley). More of a, anything is possible situation. Saying it “might” debut at #1 implies a slight expectation or prediction element to it and, while I may have missed it, I don’t believe anyone said it “might” debut at #1 after it was released. It’s a slight nuance that maybe only made sense to me, idk, but if you need to have it as a “gotcha!” moment, sure. Take it.

Wow GaGa is flopping. Drop the video early or do something. I see it debuting outside the top 30.

It wasn't meant to be a "gotcha" moment, I just get annoyed around here with people responding in regards to things that weren't really said. That's a general issue on this board. Anyway, here is a post where someone said a #1 debut should be a lock. So that happened. That was certainly an exception, but there was a discussion about the possibility of a #1 debut, and multiple posters thought a top 10 debut was assured. To that end, it was certainly fair for 85la to note that its streaming debut was low in the context of people discussing that it could/might debut #1 or at least top 10. Hell you even participated in the discussion and came at leonawagon for trying to check someone who said a top 10 debut is "an easy bet."

So a collaboration with another artist Top 2, but your hyped lead single may struggle to go Top 20? Crazy.
There's clearly a disconnect between GPs interest when it comes to her solo material.

I'll take the L here for missing the one person who said it was a surefire #1, even though 85la said "people were saying this might debut at #1" which I took to mean that it was a general sentiment among most people, which it never was. Beyond that, I'm actually having trouble finding out what the problem here is, or why you've decided to jump in and make an issue out of whatever the conversation was?

Honestly don't feel like there's much hype for this one. It's gotten some mentions here and there but hardly what I'd expect and certainly nowhere near what Stupid Love got. Maybe she should have dropped the video with it to get people talking?

Tyler, The Creator’s new album Chromakopia is dropping 6:00 AM EST tomorrow. So excited, he is one of my favorite artists and I love all his albums and this is looking to be another stellar one! Also very interested to see how it’s numbers look here, will he take number 1 with only four tracking days?

The disconnect was relatively predictable seeing the sound of the track, which seems to be resonating with her diehard fans but not many others (before you say it: a song being well reviewed doesn't mean those reviewers are going to come back to it continuously). Had she released something with less edge it definitely would've done better, but releasing something more "for the fans" is probably better for her long term.

will he break the record after all? Hmm, looking at past years 2020 - positions released 10/23, life goes on 11/20, Willow 12/11 2021 - all too well 10 minute version released 11/12 2022 - anti-hero released 10/21 2023 - is it over now released 10/27, Lovin on me released 11/10
The best chance for a last minute release taking the top would be Taylor, but idk if she's going to release anything.

will he break the record after all? Well, holiday music will take over soon enough. Assuming Morgan Walmart is #1 the Hot 100 out tomorrow (11/2), then "A Bar Song" would need 4 more weeks at #1 just to tie the record. That would mean topping the charts dated 11/9, 11/16, 11/23, and 11/30. Holiday music took over the #1 (and #2) position on the 12/9 chart last year, so this year that equivalent would be 12/7 - where "A Bar Song" could potentially be going for a 20th week at #1. I guess in theory "A Bar Song" could also return to #1 after the holidays, but that seems unlikely. :ETA: Actually I might be a week off in terms of holiday music taking over because Thanksgiving was on November 23 last year but is nearly a week later this year (November 28) so holiday music may not hit #1 until the 12/14 chart, though it's been impacting earlier and earlier the past few years and may do so again this year.

At least A Bar Song's points keep dropping within striking distance of other songs. But I am 0% surprised at its performance, given that it's so multi-genre it truly appeals to a wide range of people, considering the amount of genre radio charts its charted on.

Mariah got to #4 last year the week after Thanksgiving based on points from the week prior so I could see it happening the week of 12/7 for sure. But that still means we have 4 weeks worth of #1s to go

post-xmas: 2024 - Lovin on me back to #1, and then new songs 2023 - Antihero back to #1, and then new songs 2022 - easy on me back to #1, and then we can't talk about Bruno which didn't hit top 10 until January after the Disney+ release 2021 - mood back to #1, and then new songs 2020 - circles back to #1, and then new songs
if pattern holds, then a song will rebound to #1, then a 2025 hit will take over.

Hopefully DWAS takes over by mid November then goes back after Christmas before whatever the first new big hit of 25 is. If not, ABS maybe would’ve gotten over half a year at the top if not for holiday, which is absurd.
Also, DWAS not going #1 would be kind of Bad Romance levels of wtf atp. It’s basically gonna end up her biggest hit overall since that, so a #2 peak would be very BR 2.0 indeed.
