By person, I guess I mean people... I think that Green Day is either on the verge, or has already taken the "it" status from Usher. GD is EVERYWHERE. Not that it's bad, but I think they have been on every late-night talk show.

I think we need to wait another 2 or 3 months to figure out who 2005's It-artist(s) will be, but it is looking good for Green Day as of now.

I'll also say watch out for The Killers, I think they may blow up in '05.

I guess it would be Usher, but the "it" person is VERY relative. He doesn't define the culture currently, if you follow me. The identity of the times isn't really identified by Usher, so I can't really say he's that relevant to be called the "it" person. We'll have to see.

Green Day? In my opinion they are only getting their due since their last album should've blown up this big.

No, her first 2 hits will be remembered more with '04 than '05, and on top of that, her album sales don't come close to matching her exposure.

Gavin DeGraw?
I doubt it. But in the case that he actually does, I will have been the first to mention him. ;)

i think were gonna have to wait for the grammys to be over first, with usher, alicia, and kayne at the top of the field. id say when that buzz is over, probably early march, we'll be well into 2005 and a new 'it' artists will have emerged. im thinking game may be starting to make a stand.

Ciara is my guess. The original question wasn't about who would be 2005's "it" person, so I figure we are talking about right now. Bar Usher, who's doing it bigger than anyone else, Ciara gets my vote.

I agree, it's too soon to tell. NO WAY Ciara is the "it" person...not even close

I'll also say watch out for The Killers, I think they may blow up in '05. The Killers ROCKED TRL today... if both Green Day AND The Killers find away to take over 2005, it may open the doors to Alternative music such as Modest Mouse and Franz to be more accepted at pop. And for whomever said Usher, Alicia, and Kanye will end up on top at the Grammys... Green Day is about to take home 5 awards there... including, possibly, Album of the Year

I dont even know what Greenday sings but I definately dont want Usher to sweep the Grammys so I wouldnt be mad if they won. i have mixed feelings on Alicia but she desevres some wins over usher. and Kanyes head is just too big i hope he gets shut out like i think he will.

I don't think Green Days gonna be pops "it". They don't have broad enough appeal and BOBD is pure POP - not what GDs real fans want to hear. Theyr'e too odd, a little too old, and not sexy at ALL. I like BOBD but I wouldn't pick it over many others in the top 10 now. The eye liner and owl eyes are way wierd. I wouldn't really like meeting them and I wouldn't buy a concert ticket to see them. JMO.

I dont see Usher sweeping the grammys. I dont see Alcia sweeping it either. I see her winning 4 or 5. I wont be surprised if Greenday wins all.

JMO. BOBD is NOT pure pop... many Green Day fans have named it as one of their favs on the album... plus, BOBD is dominating Alt charts. If you want a song that's pure pop off of an "Alt" band, look at 3 Doord Down's "Let Me Go" - THAT is pure pop. I actually found that comment close to being offending! Wow, I need to get a life

Yeah, many pure Pop songs have been known to Top all 4 Rock formats simultaneously. ??? There are better songs on the album than BOBD but not for pop IMO. Timing seems to be a big player in pop music. Would this poppy formula song by GD have been this well recieved 5 years ago? Noone knows but I don't think so. Green Days explosion, decline, and decade of vigilent focus deserves much of the credit for this albums success. Their fans came out of hibernation or boredom or anger, looked around, and this album fell on them like manna from heaven amid a long glut of (other artists) music that didn't satisfy them. Its GDs renaissance - their "time" and I think they will have great success with the CD but IMO it won't get the prime "pop" audience to take more than a passing interest in them. Billy Joe Armstrong posters won't be littering the walls of many teenagers; who buy the bulk of pop cds JMO. Its also quickly climbing up the AC chart. Care to explain that? I don't think the songs that good; just in the right place at the right time - like Nelly and Tim. The Killers kick a$$, theyr'e sexy and make me wanna La La - GD doesn't and they look and sound strange. But my 25 year old brother thinks theyr'e gods and I like his bands music so I'm trying to like them.

Its also quickly climbing up the AC chart. Care to explain that? I'm so embarrassed. I mistakenly referenced the AC chart when, in fact, they are jumping up the Hot AC chart, which is another great accomplishment for GD. I should shut up now.

I'm starting to think Mariah might in all honesty be one of this year's "it-people." She only needs to make a minor comeback at radio (which she has more or less already has done) before the media is all over her like crazy in a good light for once, creating the domino affect of exposure and radio love.

I don't think Green Day will be the "it" of 2005. Not with Urban music continuing to dominate Pop radio and crossover markets.
It's still early, but I think it could be Mariah, depending.

i think the reason green day is big now, and ive seen this first hand because my sister is 14, is because they released a politically charged song called 'american idiot', and all the 12-16year olds who are anti-america/bush (and theres a hellava lot of them) found faith in this song and listened, requested and bought it. then. when they released the empowering BOBD, the resounded with the another group of teenagers that are loners, that dont kno what their looking for in life, that feel that they 'walk a lonely road' (again a major portion), it jus happens that this was such an accessable song that it really blew up. not trying to be detracting from them deserving success, i jus dont think it'll last.
i stand by my original statement that the game will be big in '05.
