Isn't the cutoff date October 31st? In that case. . .Avril's "Nobody's Home" will make the cut for the Grammy's. I think that song will have the best chance of getting nominated for Avril. The cutoff date was September 30th, it's over for this year.

Evanescence's "My Immortal" deserves both Record & Song Of The year for the Grammy's in 2005. There's no other song that can come close. This is musical and vocal excellence that is rare in the music industry today. If you also want an upcoming new artist for the future, check out Mindy Smith.

My Immortal is SO overrated. I think both "My Happy Ending" and "Toxic" will be up for Pop Female Vocal. I really hope Green Day are nominated for Album of The Year.

I agree with you Dorr that "Live Like You Were Dying" will get Record and Song of the Year nominations. The song is that good.
I think Ray Charles wins Album of the Year.

I have it in Song of the Year, but I think it's a better written song than performance from Mr. McGraw. It could get into either or both though.

I find it hard to believe that Brandy will get a nom. for Album of the Year, not enough people noticed her or her latest work. As for Hoobastank being nominated for Record and Song of the Year, come on, they pulled off a miracle for their album sales, but this is pushing it.

I dont think she has to sell millions of records to be noticed by the, She is a veteran artist so thats 1 plus for her. I HIGHLY doubt she will get the nomination for Album Of The Year but I wouldnt be surprised. To me her album is along the same lines of Justin Timberlakes.

But Justin had mega hits and big sales. I mean...I can see her getting a few r&b nods...but...album of the year? I would not be HUGELY surprised if she did not get any nominations at all Album of the year would be an incredible shock.

Last time i checked, the Grammys were not based on sales or single performance??? I dont even think Norah Jones has ever had a hit single on the Hot 100 b4 but that didnt stop her? And also last time i checked, critics praised Brandys albums more then Justins and most r&b albums that came out this year. I doubt she will get the nomination for Album of the year but I think she deserves it. Normally critical response is a good way to determine some nominations so I hope they recognize her album. She will definately get the Contemporary R&b album nomination. She got one for "Full moon" which was a far worst album. The gramys always recognize brandy for her work. I think she will be one of the bigger R7B nominees. I think she will get at least 3.

You are such an optismist. lol. Norah Jones had sold quite a bit though-did Brandy's album even break 300K? What is good critically is not always nominated. And I am surprised anyone actually still believes that a very good album will be recognized over a massively successful album.

i forgot about BEP for best Dance Recording.
I really hope Jive submits Toxic for Dance Recording and Not pop vocal performance. The Dance category is the only chance to take home an actual win.'
What are the critics saying about "the dana owens album"? That really seems like Grammy material or even Album of the year" material. Alot of people have praised her voice on the album.

Alicia will probably have a nomination in about every category she's eligible for, same as Usher. The Grammy's are increasingly pandering to popular tastes, so they may even win over some more veteran/deserving artists (look at Beyoncé last year).
I wonder what we're looking at for the Rap/Sung collabos this year.

I never said anything about her having to sell millions for recognition, and while her album did receive good marks, the acclaim it received wasn't amazing, such as for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below or Van Lear Rose. And JT's album was boring, not even a good example, artists need to take more chances musically and be more drastic w/ new ideas (like Bjork's new album Medulla) rather than dabbling w/ experimentation. lol

Lil' John is gonna get producer of the year too.
He did "Yeah" and "Goodies" by far the two biggest hits of the year.

He has worked for too many veteran artists. Alicia Keyes, Janet, brandy and not to mention his own hits that are definately grammy worthy like "jesus walks" and "all falls down".

I'm not buying Kayne West. The hype is dead. Lil' John has BY FAR been the biggest producer this year. "Yeah"+"Goodies"= 16 weeks at number one.
If "Yeah" wins record of the year, which is looking VERY possible at this point, Lil' John. Lil' John owned radio this year, Kayne was a distant second.
But I guess we'll have to wait and see.

yea maybe u are right. we all know how right you were with your Ciara predicitons! I thought Ciara would debut at number one, she debuted at number 3, man, I was off by miles! And "Goodies" is shaping up to be the biggest debut single by a female artist in the HISTORY of recorded music, so to keep this post true to the thread, I'm putting her in for 3 Grammy nominations!

Didnt you say she would sell over 300K in her first week? Maybe. If you want to search and look you definitely can. I thought that would be a reasonable number for Ciara. I don't want to start a big Ciara argument here though because I like this thread and don't want to see it closed. So please bring up an old Ciara thread if you want to continue to talk about her!

published in the Village Voice are more interesting than the Shammys. It actually looks at what the best music in a given year is. I understand the Shammys want to include commercial acts (and for most of its existwnce, safe, non-threatening acts), to ensure a decent-sized audience, but it has a lot of making up to do, in terms of past nominees/winners.
Celine Dion being nominated for and- GASP!- winning Album of the Year being one of the prime examples. This is an album that never appeared on a best-albums critical feaure, or was cited as the best of anything. But, it was a huge commercial success and you can't get safer than Celine Dion. Same with Backstreet Boys (of all acts) being nominated for Album of the Year.
NARAs has gotten better in recent years, in regards to nominees, but still has loads to make up for. And, there are waaaayyyyy too many categories. If anything, cut it down by half, to around 50 categories. I know a lot of albums are released in a given year, but...
Having said that, I'm sure Alicia Keys will fare well; Usher even may. Both commercially successful and safe- Alicia surely deserves accolades more than Usher, though.

Joss Stone has a good shot at picking up Best New Artist. Norah Jones and Alicia Keys should sccop at least a couple. Britney Spears will not win Record of the Year and will not get a nomination there. Its a horrible pop song and she doesn't even sing on it. No one takes her seriously and she's never even won a Grammy before. Evanescence has a great shot at ROTY and rightfully so. Face it Toxic was a great pop song. It will be remebered. I mean look you're still talking about it aren't you. :o Bitter Bitter Bitter
