Already not a one hit wonder. Yep. They have had a few other hits on different formats and I believe one that peaked higher than Vindicated on the pop charts too.

Yep. They have had a few other hits on different formats and I believe one that peaked higher than Vindicated on the pop charts too. And they also have a huge following that might not even know if they ever have a song on the radio or not. So, it would be like calling Phish one-hit wonders (if they ever had a hit).

Ciara - Goodies Houston - I Like That Finger Eleven - One Thing Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated Nina Sky - Move That Body Kevin Lyttle - Turn Me On Los Lonely Boys - Heaven Funny, I agree with ALL of them! I'd also put Modest Mouse on that list, since their music is too leftfield for Pop tastes, other than "Float On". And Franz Ferdinand and The Killers might also both be tagged as one-hit wonders in the American market (here in Europe, that's already far from happening). As for the definition of what a one-hit wonder is, I don't think the fact that you have a career in the underground before, during or after a Pop hit doesn't disqualify an act from one-hit wonder status. Just look at Lou Reed, Sinead O'Connor or kd lang, for example.

Yep. They have had a few other hits on different formats and I believe one that peaked higher than Vindicated on the pop charts too. If you are referring to "Hands Down", then there has been some sort of error because their other "track" missed the top 40 and peaked in the top 50, which is really not that important. Here is why, I believe that the average person has heard of them (now a duo) and is familuar with them because of the Spiderman 2 soundtrack hit. When I define "one hit wonder", I define as a hit song that an average is either familuar with or simply remembers, and right I see this as being so far their only real hit due to massive airplay not only on top 40 but other major outlets (video) as well e.t MTV.

So I guess you guys are taking one hit wonder to be one POP hit wonder?
Jersey-Yep-I went to go see Dashboard Confessional and I was SHOCKED at how many dedicated fans he had. He sold out an arena about the size that Britney and Avril play and it was one of the most...fan orientated concerts I have ever been to. (like the fans knew every word to every line and were engrossed from start to finish) It was great.
I could have SWORN that one of their songs peaked at #27 on the pop chart...higher than Vindicated. and that Screaming Infidelities still remains by far their most well known single. Thats the one everyone seems to associate them with that I know.

So I guess you guys are taking one hit wonder to be one POP hit wonder? As far as I'm concerned, it's pretty much that way, yeah. ;) And I think it's the most common way, really. :)

hmm well I can think of MANY artists who are popular at their format and not pop and would qualify as one hit or NO hit wonders then haha. I wont list them

I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for Jojo. I like that girl, and even though Baby It's You is doing decently, the song is not shaping up to be even half as big a hit that Leave was.

But "Vindicated" is their only top 40 pop hit. I believe "Hands Down" either made the top 50 or just missed.

I must have completely gone crazy. I could have sworn to God one of their songs hit top 30 on pop. Perhaps I am thinking of someone else. In a way that does not even make sense that they would hit top 30 though-I am shocked even Vindicated made this far haha.

JoJo's doing fine, the second single is doing very nice so far and all... the album's not selling too much but eh. She's no one hit wonder.
From that first list, I'd say Kevin Lyttle and Nina Sky are almost DEFINITELY one hit wonders-- I'll be shocked if they get anything more than a teeny tiny one-format hit or something.
I don't know who Finger Eleven or Los Lonely Boys are.
Dashboard Confessional, like everyone said, are already not 1 hit wdrs.
Houston could probably get another hit by collaboration or something, but no one will notice.
We'll see about Ciara... she has more hype, somehow, than most 1 hit wonders, but it's not looking good for her so far. Just because her hit was REALLY big does not mean she'll have more, sorry Dorr!

I think JoJo is doing fine too. She is approaching 600K sold and her second single...I think...is taking off better than I expected. I expected it to flop massively but unless it stops cold suddenly it looks like it will be at least a minor hit.

It's not looking good for Ciara so far? There are several reasons that comment is silly, but let us start with the most obvious, she hasn't even released a second single!
Anyone who thinks Ciara is going to be a one-hit wonder is hoping in vain. Pretty soon she'll have the number one album and single in the country, and radio won't deny her second single just because she's so huge.
With Brandy, Aaliyah, and Monica all fading, there is a huge opening in the market. That's part of the reason "Goodies" went straight to the top of the charts.
Oh, and just because her hit was REALLY big doesn't mean she WON'T have more, sorry Bob!

Ciara will go the way of Tweet. I think that's impossible seeing that she's already surpassed anything Tweet as ever done. "Goodies" is doing exactly what "Fallin'" did when it was released, and exactly what "Foolish" did when it was released. Ciara will follow suit with a number one debut album.

Neither Fallin nor Foolish were novelty songs. Goodies SOUNDS like a novelty song along the lines of Tweet's song and Kelis. I mean I am not saying she does not have a chance. She does. But I almost think it will be an uphill battle to really, really establish her. I do not think her breakthrough amazing success is guaranteed to her right now.

Neither Tweet nor Kelis had a number one smash hit on the Billboard Hot 100 like Ciara does. Those songs were a flash in the pan, Ciara is about to complete an entire month with the most popular song in the country.

Point?
That does not even coincide with what I said. I said it sounds like a song that could be classified as a novelty song. It sounds more along the lines of Tweet and Kelis rather than Alicia Keys. There have been HUGE novelty songs in the past.

Well, you point of it being a novelity song was kind off-key from my comments as well. I wasn't comparing the quality of the songs Alicia or Ashanti made to the quality of Ciara's song.
I simply stated all three had similar chart runs. Besides, whether a song is "novelity" or not is strictly a matter of opinion. I thought "Foolish" screamed novelity. And where you draw the conclusion that because you believe the song is a "novelity" and her inability to follow it up because of that fact is kinda silly.
But let's run with that idea. "My Name Is" was a novelity song, and we see what it did for Eminem. Maybe Ciara will experience that kind of success, as opposed to Tweet and Kelis?

It will be interesting to see what happens with Ciara but I definately dont think she will have anything close to the success of Ashanti or Alicia Keyes.
I do think females will buy her album and I'll give her a solid top 10 debut. But anything more then that will remain to be seen.
