First single off of the sophomore album The Open Door due October 3rd.
Unlike Prisoner for a Day Long, this IS the actual title of their first single. Songs on their album also will include Good Enough and Weight of the World.

So yeah, I read about this earlier. This album keeps getting postponed, its getting ridiculous. I guess we're gonna have to be patient and wait a little more to hear this first single.
I don't like that title, BTW.

On a related note, just because this topic called this to mind......
Wind-Up, the band's label, has been confusing me lately. They haven't dropped any bands lately and they've actually been seemingly supportive of their current roster, even though acts like Breaking Point, The Exit, and People In Planes have failed to really bring in any cash for the label. I'm almost positive the bombing of Scott Stapp's album and the constant delays of Evanescence's album hurt them a lot last year, which is probably why so many acts like Ben Moody, Megan McCauley, and Omnisoul that were supposed to have releases last year are still in limbo. At the same time, they're not thinning the herd like they usually do and they seem to be picking up new acts that are totally outside their usual spectrum, like Stefy. Which makes me wonder what they're really trying to do.
On the other hand, they've definitely got plenty of chances to get a hit somewhere. As I said above, they've got Megan McCauley, Ben Moody, Omnisoul, Stefy, and Evanescence in the pipeline, and the Exit is supposed to be working on a new album too, as well as 12 Stones, Atomship, Strata, Submersed, Alter Bridge, Eric Durrance (of Big Dismal), Drowning Pool, and Finger Eleven. It seems like Strata and Atomship especially are being primped to be pushed hard with their next releases. As evidence, Strata is currently working with Supergrass producer Sam Williams and Atomship is working with Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace and Shinedown producers Bob Marlette and Rick Beato. Marlette also worked on Default, Seether, and Saliva records, so you can see where that's going.
I guess the point I'm trying to make though is that out of all of them, Evanescence is definitely the one band on Wind-Up's roster that is most capable of bringing in the bucks, just because Fallen sold so unbelievably well and you have to believe that a large portion of that fanbase will purchase the next album. Wind-Up is probably really eager for this album to be the huge hit they need to get their machine running again, assuming that there's a problem, and if there is a problem, then there's a lot riding on this. If I were Evanescence, I'd be very very afraid.

Excited for new Evanescence, and I will definitely give these several hard listens before I determine its destiny here.
I will say that the #2 (?) peak of "My Immortal" over on CHR/Pop and its failure to make top 40 here will hurt their future on the rock formats. Like many comeback albums, I'd say their future depends on a really solid second single.
On the outside, I'll say this goes top 10, but after a 2 year delay on their album, I'd say this struggles to go platinum.

I hardly care anymore. I won't close the door on the new material, but it's not been anything I've been able to get excited about, and all these complications are not making matters any better. Maybe Amy could carry this band on her own just as well as Ben did, but I'm not holding my breath.

Evanescence-Call Me When You're Sober
Um...
I know this is only a title, but my expectations for this song have just gone down a few notches, sadly. I'm pretty sure I'll like it at least a little bit, though.
It seems like Strata and Atomship especially are being primped to be pushed hard with their next releases.
Atomship's "Pencil Fight" should have been a lot bigger than it was.

I'm anxious to hear this especially if this is what the actual title will be. There's never been an Evanescence song that I didn't like, however I just couldn't get into their last album. Just hearing all the songs from front to back didn't flow somehow in my mind. I'll check out this new album despite the past, and maybe I'll try my best to give Fallen a chance once again since its been awhile since I last heard it.

I'm pretty sure I'll like it at least a little bit, though.Yeah, mentally comparing this to the titles from Fallen, it sounds so generic and random. It sounds like something I'd expect from, say, Buckcherry or Jet. I don't know if that's supposed to be an indicator of what this'll sound like, though, and I hope not. Hell, even just calling it "Call Me" would've been somewhat better.

If I were Evanescence, I'd be very very afraid. I'd actually wanted to bring this up on an Ev site, but I think the question may be a bit too much for the members. I'm a little concerned for the simple fact that SO MUCH is riding on this album. I doubt that they'll live up to what Fallen has done...that is to say ever. However, I hope that this second album and first single off of it will be just the catalyst to make people fall in love with Evanescence again...for the first time. They've yet to let us Evfans down in the music that they've released dating back to 1997 (4 years before Ev had ever been signed), so why start now? However, to be honest, I think that all of these signings have to do with insurance in a sense. If something may go terribly wrong with the promotion of this album, they may need a bonafide hit from one of their lesser known bands/artists...something that Wind-up may not be ready for because the only other artist doing much of anything now on the label is Seether. Ironically, how well Ev does also correlates with how well Ben would do...hopefully whatever album Ben's had in the works since early last year comes around before the end of the year.

Ironically, how well Ev does also correlates with how well Ben would do...hopefully whatever album Ben's had in the works since early last year comes around before the end of the year. Some good points there. The "insurance" factor probably explains why they've been signing groups like The Exit, People In Planes, and Stefy: to try to jump on the current trends, but as I said, they also seem more supportive than usual of their other lesser hard rock acts like Breaking Point, Strata, and Atomship, which I think is really good, but I guess it's more that they don't feel they can let any potential hitmakers slide rather than actually wanting to start using that indie approach they've always been claiming to take. I guess I'll know which it is if Breaking Point gets dropped. Beautiful Disorder didn't do well by any standards even though I've heard the new single "All Messed Up" is doing well on a couple pop formats. If Wind-Up allows those guys to make another album, I'll be pleasantly surprised. Then again, they're letting 12 Stones make a new album and they pretty much pulled in similar numbers with Potter's Field, so who knows.

The situation is officially more dire now that Alter Bridge has left Wind-Up. Im glad they left. maybe they're next album will be more on the heavier side and less Creed sounding. Wind-up is VERY anal and controling about what bands put out. hopefully more bands will leave this label to they can actually make better music

Yeah, pretty much everything I've heard from Wind-Up has this commercial, overproduced vibe that I don't care for, and it does sound to me like some of the bands on there have the potential to do better. Evanescence being one of them. I'm certainly curious to see what direction they'll go in without Ben - I'm thinking it will be a considerable departure.

I don't know about overproduced but I'm positive that Wind-Up does pressure their acts to be more commercial, out of necessity. The thing about Wind-Up is that while they claim to be this big independent grassroots kind of company, they run things as if they see themselves as or at least desire to be a major label. That means pushing bands for mainstream success at every available opportunity, and it's why Wind-Up bleeds out bands on a consistent basis. Anyone remember Boy Hits Car, Cauterize, Stereo Fuse, Edgewater, Must, Dust For Life, Seven Wiser, or Trickside? Thankfully many of those groups still exist after their trials and tribulations with Wind-Up, and some of them do recall their time with Wind-Up fondly, but most of them also recall how Wind-Up never pushed their releases very hard and were never happy enough with follow-up material to consider releasing it. I can't particularly blame Wind-Up because a label needs income to run their operations and considering the way Wind-Up wants to run their label, it's not surprising that they need artists that are consistently successful. They can claim to be grassroots all they want, but they have neither the time nor inclination to actually spearhead any kind of grassroots campaigns. For God's sake, their first signing went multiplatinum right away and if you don't know who I'm talking about, then crawl out from the rock. I don't know that Wind-Up even really knows how to be an independent label, which is why their current behavior toward their roster is kind of surprising. Not that I think they're learning to be an independent label, but I think they're coming to realize that they can't just keep on shitting out bands like they've been doing. All the same though, Alter Bridge leaving really hurts them, because they're definitely going to need to rely on their few popular groups until their other acts come into their own, if they ever do.

I forgot about a lot of those bands mentioned.
Im glad Cauterize is still around. Cauterize released Paper Wings as a follow up with their own money and produced it themseleves. it was really well done. they did get signed to High 4 Records (owned and run by the drummer from Goldfinger). I know this has nothing to do with the topic of Evanescence but I still say its worth checking out and their is music after wind-up

Well, we'll see. I hope not because they're a good band.
And if anyone wants to know what happened to the above bands.....
Boy Hits Car released their new album The Passage nationwide through Cornice Records earlier this year after selling it through their website since late 05. It rules.
Cauterize has already been mentioned.
Stereo Fuse will release their new album All That Remains on June 6th through Toucan Cove/Universal.
Edgewater started selling their new album We're Not Robots independently through their website and there are rumblings about a national release sometime soon.
Must broke up.
Dust For Life released Degrees Of Black through their website in 2004, but then Chris Gavin left the band, leaving them in limbo. Currently two of the remaining members are putting together a new assortment of musicians that may continue under the Dust For Life name.
Seven Wiser is still independent and has nearly completed work on their new album with plans to release it before the end of the year.
Trickside broke up.
And to add another to the list that I forgot, Boy Sets Fire released their new album called The Misery Index: Notes From The Plague Years through their new home at Equal Vision. It is awesome and well worth hearing.
So as you can see, most bands survived the fallout from Wind-Up. Good thing too, that in this day and age so many groups can still press onward after suffering label woes. Heh, maybe all the bands that left Wind-Up can form their own label.

Seeing this song title, like Matt and others, I've sadly lowered my expectations. I loved Fallen, but naming a song that title comes off to me like a lame attempt at a "clever" kiss-off title, like some country chick, or something, and Evanescence just aren't that band.
Moreover, I don't know about anyone else, but when I see that title, I think "Ben Moody." Why the hell would they want to indirectly address (or even imply) Ben's departure and past addictions?
On the other hand, I understand Ben was behind nearly all of the commercial songcraft, which Fallen had too much of. It was a little too slick and the arrangements were a little too much like pop songs. Hopefully with Amy and the rest of the full band steering the ship this time, the music will be satisfying.
I'll be so sad if this record doesn't live up to my expectations by a considerable margin. Hopefully Wind-up isn't going for a rock AND pop attack with the promotion strategy.

Hey, penance, when is Rocktropolis getting updated again? Ha. Well, for a long while now I just haven't had time or inclination to update it regularly, but I have thought about putting something up on the web. The main thing is that it's being hosted on my college server right now and I know that eventually I'd have to buy a domain name and get hosting, especially with me shooting for a winter graduation, and right now I have no job and thus no extra funds to do that. I guess I could put something up in the meantime, since I do keep a release date chart in Word for my own personal use. I'll think about it. To tell the truth, I didn't know anyone outside of my old forum even bothered checking that thing, and of them, only like two ever did. Hmmmm.

Wind-Up needs Evanescence to be their champion, so I'm not surprised they want everything absolutely perfect (in their eyes).

From what I've heard (whether this be true or not), Wind-Up has not been satisfied with anything the band has been presenting, and that they are having a real hard time making an album.
I don't like this title one bit. It doesn't sound like an 'Evanescence type song' to me, but who knows. It might sound completely different then the title implies. I want new material, and I can't wait for the album, but it had better be good. They have had more then enough time.
I agree with whoever said they are under a lot of pressure. It will be a real struggle for this album to outsell or even match the sales of 'Fallen'.

To quote Ultimate Guitar, "Call Me When You're Sober" has remnants of Evanescence's old goth sound, but with woman-scorned lyrics ("You never call me when you're sober/You only want it cause it's over") and a bluesy arrangement of strings and organ, it sounds more Fiona Apple than new metal.
