If someone already posted this, then I'm sorry for doing it again. For the life of me, I searched hard for this topic (I don't always necessarily trust the Pulse search engine), because I swear someone posted this about two months ago.
The title track will be the second single from the album. Does anyone have a clip of what I believe will be the most critical single of their career thus far? "Original Fire" didn't exactly sustain its top 5 showing, and so they'll have to rebound with a strong second single. With rumors surrounding their break-up (proven to be untrue) and Cornell's lingering solo album right around the corner, possibly this could do better. I'd quite frankly be stunned if it didn't go top 15. My guess is the title track will be strong, and hopefully I won't get tired of it within 5 weeks, as I did with "Original Fire".

Well, the album has sold over 150,000 copies the first week, only denied the top spot by Beyonce (sigh) who went gold in one shot (double sigh). That's not as good as Out Of Exile's 200,000+, but it's still a decent showing.
I don't know that "Revelations" is the best choice for a single though. I think "One And The Same", "Sound Of A Gun", or "Somedays" are more logical options. We'll just have to see what happens.

A-ha!! Now that I think about it, someone posted an "Audioslave: Revelations" topic here, but it was regarding the entire album and was later moved to the Music News forum. That clears that up, haha.
Are there any links to these songs online, because I'm not able to pull up anything.

There's a clip on Audioslave's website. But it's just a clip.

Bad choice IMO. I would've went with "Broken City".

I haven't listened to the album enough to judge but upon my first listen, nothing jumped out at me the way 'Original Fire' did on its first listen.

"Sound Of A Gun" would be my pick.
"Shape Of Things To Come" is, however, my favorite track from the album.

I like this song. The chorus really reminds me of another song but I can't remember what.

This is a ROCKING song and, for whatever reason, this sounds great on the radio. I hope this can pull a top 10 and keep longevity, unlike "Original Fire", which I believe is now in only its 14th week on the chart.

I like this better than Original Fire, and it may be my favorite Audioslave single. It should do well, but then again anything is unexpecting these days

Will there be another single? I like Wide Awake. Audioslave probably doesn't have to worry about a Dixie Chicks style backlash. Rage Against the Machine was never subtle about their politics, and I think Wide Awake is a great song, and would make a provocative video.

I'm sure there will be another single released in Jan/Feb of next year.

What a disappointment chart-wise this single has been.
Not only is it the first time an Audioslave single has EVER missed the Top 20; it's also the first single to miss the Top 30 as well on Alternative. And when you look at the trends through their releases, it's very hard not to write this single off as a flop on Alternative.
They better hurry and get a third single out there, or this band could lose their staple status altogether for any future release.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I'm telling you that it has to do a lot with that double release. Even though it wasn't technically a double release (Chris Cornell's single), it still counts to me. Putting both singles out at the same time proved to be overkill.

I'm telling you that it has to do a lot with that double release. Even though it wasn't technically a double release (Chris Cornell's single), it still counts to me. Putting both singles out at the same time proved to be overkill. But it's also true that the Chris Cornell single was not from an album (which Cornell will have a solo album released next year), and rather a separate, individual release in promotion of the film. "Revelations" was at least able to outpeak the second single off their previous album on Active Rock ("Your Time Has Come") but on Alternative it's easily their most underperforming single to date. Hopefully, if historical trends for this band hold true, this album is not over when they release a follow-up single that has strong chart longevity in the higher reaches of the chart. Lead singles from this band have never been their strongest in terms of longevity. "Cochise" indeed had a more than respectable peak at #6 off their debut, but also didn't have a long chart life. "Be Yourself" became the band's sole #1 single to date (on Alternative) but it was largely because of the hype and popularity their debut generated, and that single quickly fell below the Top 20 well before it was eligible to go recurrent. And "Original Fire" peaked decently at #4, but fell like a boulder shortly after peaking and hasn't even gone recurrent yet I don't recall. The secondary/follow-up singles have so far been their strongest. "Like A Stone" was a second single that had an amazing chart-run and went #1 at one format and #2 at another, with two subsequent singles performing almost as impressively. And "Doesn't Remind Me" did what the first two singles from "Out Of Exile" failed to do; had an amazing chart-run week-wise and also peaked high at #3. I hope Audioslave can pull it off again and deliver another strong secondary release that'll stand out for this era. "Sound Of A Gun" to me was the track that immediately stood out listening to the album, and "Shape Of Things To Come" leaped out as well (though the latter wasn't a leading single candidate to me) I think if Audioslave can get "Revelations" to go platinum, they'll remain commerically strong heading into the next era. If it remains gold, Audioslave may permanently lose their airplay mandate at Alternative and Active Rock. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I've heard rumors (and have links if anyone is interested) that Chris Cornell is pondering retirement. I find it hard to believe that will actually happen, but something tells me the fact Audioslave aren't even touring to promote this album is a signal that they're likely done overall.
They are quite possibly the most successful supergroup in recent time. One can make an argument they are more successful than Soundgarden or Rage ever were.
I find it difficult to believe a third single will outpeak either. Neither this or "Original Fire" are headbanger rock songs, but both should have done well in this environment if actively promoted and toured for. When "Original Fire" fell like a rock and only spent 14 weeks on the chart, I knew Audioslave were doomed. But I knew that, while successful, their career couldn't last forever.
I had favorable opinions on the new Cornell single, but something tells me it will bomb when the movie is released. It's just rather bland, IMO.

Commercially, yes, but in terms of reverence and influence, Audioslave will never hold a candle to Soundgarden and RATM. That's not a fact, per se, but it might as well be. The rest of that (having not heard "Revelations" yet), I pretty much agree with, actually. (Oh yeah, and the movie is out already.)

I just prepared a response for this but this 'ing connection f-ed me out of it once again. Screw this thing. Anyways.... Commercially, yes, but in terms of reverence and influence, Audioslave will never hold a candle to Soundgarden and RATM. That's not a fact, per se, but it might as well be. Oh, absolutely, no debate there. I've always referred to the 'Slave (does anyone else call them that?) as a heterogenuous mixture of two somewhat different sounds. But, in 2006, wouldn't it be rather difficult for any "alternative" band to match the influence of the groups pre-1992? For the record, I've always loathed James Bond movies. I actually stomached two hours of an entire movie. No offense to anybody who likes them, but it really caters to the Lowest Common Denominator in such an obvious way - of course, not everyone who watches it is dumb, but I mean come on? Aren't there better action movies to see? But I'm not an action fan myself. The scenes are just too unbelievable and, yes, the women are degraded to a ridiculous degree.

Aren't there better action movies to see? But I'm not an action fan myself. The scenes are just too unbelievable and, yes, the women are degraded to a ridiculous degree. On the one hand, that's partially the point. James Bond has become sort of a male fantasy world kind of series, with high-tech tools and larger-than-life villains and beautiful women and so on and so forth. Everything is supposed to be overdone and overblown. The series wasn't always that way, but that's what it turned into. On the other hand, I think the Brosnan films at least have become more and more ridiculous since GoldenEye, and I'm glad that he's retired from the role. Finally, I have yet to see Casino Royale, but I've heard that this Bond does away with a lot of what the series has become in recent years and makes Bond into a far more human character. It's also a prequel to everything else, as it takes place with him first starting as 007, so I imagine it would make for a far more interesting picture to witness his first struggles on the job.

Man, this could quite possibly be their most musically impressive single to date. It's really bizarre how it continues to climb on the two other rock formats, and it's now almost below the top 50 on alt. Being "lighter" in the looser sense of the term, I would think it would be something alternative would embrace, but evidently not.

Wow, I FINALLY heard Revelations on the radio yesterday. Then, again today! It's about time! The station WOCL, is listed on radio locator as Alternative, but it is definitely harder leaning alternative. " 33 15 AUDIOSLAVE Revelations 17 10 7 0.1025 " It went from #33 to #15 on this station's play list. Woohoo!
