The third single goes for adds October 16th.
For once I am actually glad that a label went against an artist's wishes. I read that Jared actually wanted Attack to go for adds again as the next single. He probably felt it deserved a better run, but the label wanted to go forward with this instead.
It's a great song. It would've sucked if 30 Seconds wasted the next few months trying to extend the lifespan of Attack. This however, I feel has a chance at repeating The Kill's success. It's a very straightforward but powerful kind of song. I think the chorus is pretty much undeniable. Try not signing along with it. I dare you.
"From yeeeeeeeeeeesterdaaaaaaaaaaaay it's coooooooooooomiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing........."

I can't recall where I'd rank this in with the other songs, but I was gunning for the title track. :(

this song reminds me a lot of the first album. I would have thought it was a b-side from it. I think this was a good pick, but I agree A Beautiful Lie should go for adds. hopefully the push for a fourth single.

This is a really great track and should follow up "The Kill" quite well, which is good because I feel "A Beautiful Lie" (song) would probably have trouble doing well because a) it's too similar to "The Kill" and b) unless it's a blow-you-away quality song, radio isn't treating follow-up singles well in 2006. I know I was giving this band flack in the "The Kill" thread, and Jared Leto comes across as quite a douchebag in interviews, but the reality is this song absolutely blows me away. They are a great band overwhelmed by unforseen popularity and hype. This should go top 10, if not farther.

Yes! I'm pretty sure they're destined to become a really succesful band now. A 4th single may be possible as well as a future #1.

Re-releasing "Attack" definitely would've been a bad idea. Jared may have been underwhelmed with the performance of the song, but I think that a near-top 20 peak is too high to justify a re-release - people would interpret that as an act of desperation. Perhaps if "From Yesterday" becomes a hit, then "Attack" will go into heavy recurrent rotation.

He had to have been joking about "Attack".

And yes, I think this is an excellent choice. One of the best on the album. It will be a hit.

Attack may not have gone Top 10 like The Kill did, but I remember hearing it enough for enough of a longevity on the radio that I was sick of it. I remember it taking quite awhile until they sent The Kill to radio. I would assume the majority of rare radio listeners heard Attack at least 5-10 times during its period, so yeah re-releasing it again would be completely wasteful.

I'm surprised they didn't go with The Fantasy. They had the live video performance on MTVs All That Rocks.
It's not one of my favorite tracks...I wish they'd have actually gone with "The Battle of One", one of the bonus tracks on the album and my personal favorite song on the album. Short, but sweet.

"The Fantasy" is a good song, but I don't think it would be a great single.

Odd that my station never even played "Attack", and I just assumed they would never play any 30STM singles because they could be considered too "rock" for my station. Then, when "The Kill" begins to hit top 15 by about its twentieth week on the mediabase chart, my station just begins spinning it and has been spinning that song in heavy rotation ever since. They never spun "Capricorn" even one time back in late '02, either - not that I would necessarily expect them to, but my station used to be quite diverse musically. I think closing up on certain bands has really killed them, but I digress. (I will be working for them next semester, so maybe that's why I rave on so much about KRBZ).

Wow. "The Kill" is still at the top of the rock charts. Yeah, you'd think after going for adds almost 8 months ago on February 6th that it would go recurrent already. It amazes me that this and many other older songs are still on the charts when Crossfade's "Invincible" went recurrent a few weeks ago. I tell ya it boggles my insane mind ???

Geez, "Invincible" is already recurrent? Such a travesty that that one bombed as badly as it did. Even the rockiest of Active Rock stations didn't even pick that up. Good Lord. Oh, and speaking of which I received an e-mail from HERE of all places from Ed Sloan HIMSELF (supposedly), thanking me for my comments on the "Invincible" forum and encouraging me to buy/listen to the new album. I still haven't yet, but did anyone else receive this e-mail? I was slightly impressed.

No, but I got the message:
"Eddie here from cfade. If you didnt like the last im sure you wont like the latest. i beg you to review"
At first I didn't know what was going on. I just blankly replied, "What?"

This is a very good single choice. I think it will do well for them. "The Fantasy" is good too, but not as good as "From Yesterday." They've got a lot of potential.

I love this song! It was the standout song on the album when I first got it. (that excludes the singles) But wow. I'm so happy. I listen to this song all the time. I see it going #1. I was surprised though with what everyone said above, about "Attack" flopping? That sucks. That song was awesome too. Where did it peak? Anyways, I totally see this song being HUGE.

I believe it only peaked around #20 on Alternative or so, but I realize the longevity of it went on for so long, that it was hard to notice it did that poorly.

I thought attack peaked around #11 on a very weak Alternative Chart last summer. I as well thought it was a great song last summer and believe it underacheived just because Leto wasn't taken seriously as an artist. I think this group will have a very successful run for the rest of this decade.

^I agree. 30 Seconds To Mars IS amazing. Do they write their own stuff, too? "A Beautiful Lie" has no writing credits.

LOL, we have two 30STM fans with the same JoJo avatar. and Jared wrote everything from the album, except the Bjork cover of "Hunter".

Attack peaked at #31 on the rock charts.
And Jared wrote everything but "Hunter" (it's a cover) and on 2 of the songs, the whole band wrote them.

I wish Duckhead compiled entire top 40 charts, but I know that's asking a load.
I have "Attack" peaking around #23 at alternative last summer. I also have this peaking around #10, but if it is another incredibly slow rise I may have checked myself into therapy by next spring.

I don't understand all the love for this song as a single. It's a good enough song, but there are plenty better choices on the record.

I know, but it's a better choice than releasing "R-Evolve" or something.
