I wonder what movie inspired this video. We all know "The Kill" was from the The Shining but I see some of Jet Li's Hero and The Last Samurai at the end. And not just because they are white guys in an Asian country. ;)

I'd actually observed last week that this topic had grown larger than both My Chemical Romance and The Killers' high-profile comeback hits. Never would have seen that coming a year ago.

It went for adds at Active Rock and Heritage Rock on November 20, thus extending this topic even further.

I really think their next album, which is due this coming summer but will be pushed to Autumn, will be really, really huge. They have really built themselves up from nothing with this album. I remember really enjoying "Attack" and thought, this song really isn't bad even though Jared Leto is singing it. I think this group could end up being pretty big and a staple to this format the rest of the decade. From a modern rock p.o.v., them and Chevelle for that matter.

Where did you hear about them working on a new album? I hadn't heard anything like that.

Yeah, they're going to Europe for a tour to start the year, then they're doing TOC. When are they ever going to have time to record a new album and get it out by the summer. That has "setback" written all over it, especially since nothing they've ever done gets finished on time anyway.

I honestly hope they don't become big. If they do, I guarantee you I won't like them near as much, because they will be put under bands like Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Green Day...etc....all of those being bands I utterly despise. I don't know why I will like them less, but I will.
I'm already getting over ABL a lot. I think I just burned out on it.

I hope you didn't like Muse.

Oh, here we go. I wonder why this happens mostly with rock bands, but not with female singers like JoJo. She's really popular right now, bigger than 30STM yet you still like her. Am I right?

Like I said, I don't know why I would like them less if they were HUGE, but I would, and I am entitled to do so whenever the hell I want. Kthxbai.
And yes, JoJo is way more popular than 30STM, and I love her. That's partially because I've been a fan of Jo's since the beginning and that she's always been a big artist. I became a fan of 30STM before they were HUGE, but not when they were pretty much unknown (that time being late summer). Then, all the sudden....BOOM! And I really don't want to be a part of the whole 'emo' thing, because people stereotype. I'm afraid they'll conform to what's popular in the rock world. Whereas I don't have to worry about that with artists like JoJo, Pink, Lindsay, Avril, etc....because in pop music, there really isn't an incredible amount to conform to. They set their pace and stay on that general course. I do have to worry some with Avril, though...but she hasn't now, so I'm pretty sure she won't ever.
Like I said, it's weird. I probably dug myself a deeper hole by explaining myself above, but oh well.

There's nothing to conform to in mainstream pop music because it is the conformity.

The stereotyping thing is dumb and penance is right about popstars already being in the comformity. Three of those ladies you mentioned both act and sing (even Avril). Why? Because its the popstar thing to do. I also heard Pink is gonna be in a horror movie in 2007. :o

At this point, I don't think there's any reason to believe :30STM will ever be completely under that "emo" category like the bands you mentioned. Even if they toured constantly with those groups (and they did appear on Vans Warped '06, although they weren't there when I attended), there's still enough to set their music apart, unless they completely sell out, which I couldn't see them doing from any angle. In fact, I associate them with Incubus probably more than anything else. (I would avoid categorizing them to begin with.)
I realize you're only 13, but you can't always associate musical popularity with commercialization. The rock world operates quite a bit differently from the pop world, true. I'm curious - which rock bands do you like? Don't worry about the stereotypes. I listen to emo and I'm not sitting in jaffy pants writing heartfelt poetry and slitting my wrists (ok, I'll stop saying that now).

That's kinda the point. 30STM is the only rock band I like.

9 7 30 SECONDS TO MARS From Yesterday 2005 Immortal/Virgin 1420 1304 +116 7.326
I really hope this song can reach #1 & can become as popular as "The Kill." It has the biggest bullet except for the #1 song

I know this has nothing to do with this particular song, but its band related.
30 Seconds to Mars' latest album "A Beautiful Lie" has been certified platinum. Furthermore, with a record-setting run of 50 weeks on the Billboard Modern Rock airplay chart and counting, “The Kill,” is now the longest-running hit in the history of the Modern Rock chart, which first started monitoring in 1988.

So to pump myself for the 30STM show last night, I listened to both albums and on disc and in concert, "R-Evolve" really stuck with me more than ever before. I thought, "Holy shit, that's a good-ass song." I'd have no problem whatsoever if that were the next single. Of course, it'd be a wasted opportunity if "A Beautiful Lie" were never released, but we'll see how it goes...

I'm surprised because I think "R-Evolve" is my least favorite song of all on that disc, but to each his own. I'd want "A Beautiful Lie" to be the fourth single since they already covered all my other choices: "Attack", "The Kill", and "From Yesterday". But something tells me "The Fantasy" is a contender.

I figured that The Fantasy was going to get a label push after those MTV Awards that they had where they performed at. I forget what they were called, but it had Bam Margera hosting.

Yeah, and they really seem to make a big deal out of performing it ("The Fantasy") live. "A Beautiful Lie" is such a slam dunk, though.

I remember seeing a live performance of "The Fantasy" a lot on MTV2 this fall back when I had that channel. But at the end of the "FY" video, the intro to "ABL" plays as the 30STM members take off their masks... so either one could be the next single IMO.

I just listened to the album for the first time in awhile, and A Beautiful Lie and The Fantasy would probably be my two top choices for a fourth single. There's no reason that either one shouldn't hit Top 10 once again for them unless people are just sick of hearing 30STM for the past year and a half straight. Was It A Dream? and R-Evolve came to mind, but I don't think they're as radio friendly.

Judging from the survey I just took on RateTheMusic, I think they're trying to pick the fourth single, and it seems to be a battle between "A Beautiful Lie" and "The Fantasy", just as I predicted. "A Modern Myth" was also on there for some inexplicable reason, but I think it was more to offer another option than anything else. I don't see "A Modern Myth" being a very good single even if it is a beautiful closer. Anyway, I voted for "A Beautiful Lie" but I'm still expecting "The Fantasy" to win out.
