I was surprised to see Nelly debut so low on the BillBoard 200. But I think if she releases "Try" or "Explode" as her second single she will be able to pick up steam. This album is one of the best of the year. I have to have faith that it will become somewhat successful.

Too bad Nelly Furtado's album didn't have a very good debut. I still don't think enough prmotion went into this album, not to ay it would go Top 10 if enough was put in.

In the Billboard article about the albums chart they just call her Furtado.

In the Billboard article about the albums chart they just call her Furtado. Probably didn't want people mixing her up with Nelly.

It's quite common to refer to people by just their last names.

Probably even more disappointing - Folklore only debuted @ #18 in Canada. Whoa, Nelly! eventually peaked @ #2.

It's quite common to refer to people by just their last names. In sports but not in music. "Keith" on a Country chart could be Toby Keith or Keith Urban. There are tons of Jacksons in music, that could be the most common last name in music all-time.

It doesn't matter if it's sports or music. In any NEWS story, columnists and reporters will use the last name of the person. It's to avoid repetition. As long as the full name is used first or the story is so popular, the reader/viewer will automatically know who is being talked about. Example: Bush refused to comment about his surprise trip to Baghdad or Jackson denies all child sexual assault allegations.
