I don't either. A week is a week, whether or not there is a chart that week. I count the two break weeks in the "weeks on" total in my AT40 (soon to be R&R) records.

I don't either. A week is a week, whether or not there is a chart that week. Exactly, especially for the songs that peak during those 2 weeks. Even if the charts aren't published, the weeks on/peaks should at least count. Time doesn't just stand still during those 2 weeks!

True... one thing I always liked about Billboard was that even during the 13 years or so that they froze their charts for the last week of the year, they still counted that week in their totals. And now they don't even freeze the charts at all. R&R could learn something from that... :)

So will the current Top 5, Outkast ("The Way You Move") and Kelis be the Top 7 after the break? Even if they have a bullet after the break it will be hard for No Doubt to get higher than Number 6. With no songs gaining a lot behind it and a chance to pass Beyonce featuring Sean Paul, Trapt, and Stacie Orrico, Christina could peak during the break. It's surprising to have no songs below Number 12 gaining over 500. Due to the break, Mary J. Blige featuring Eve could have the biggest debut of 2004. It could easily debut in the Top 30, and if it accelerates to +1,000 or more could debut in the Top 20. Do "Why Don't You & I" and "Get Low" have enough weeks to go recurrent after the break. Remaining on the chart for two more weeks due to the break makes it hard for a song that went recurrent after the break to be the top recurrent. "Me Against the Music," "Take Me Away," and "Deliverance" should be way below the chart when the break ends. "Walked Outta Heaven" and "Not Today" have the best chances of debuting the week after the break. Sarah McLachlan, G-Unit, Blink-182, Nick Cannon, M.V.P. featuring Stagga Lee, Lucky Boys Confusion, and Default are songs with a bullet of less than 200 in the 51-70 range that could lose their bullet over the break. Ruben will need to accelerate to do well. I don't know when "Toxic" goes for adds but it could debut if it gets added during the break. Switchfoot is going for adds this week and could debut on the next chart. If released soon enough, maybe a song we haven't heard yet can make the chart the week after the break. Janet? Based on how "All For You" started, a new Janet song could debut before going for adds. KNEV, the only station playing it, increased Sugababes: "Round Round" from 0 to 7 spins. City High: "O Come All Ye Faithful" has 7 spins. Has anybody heard it or know what album it's from if it's on an album? The new Evan and Jaron has only 2 spins. Geoguy will be happy "Just An Old Boyfriend" goes from 0 to 1 spin.

Actually, it kind of does. The chart moves super slow during those two weeks, and I think it's fine that R&R doesn't count them. Chart runs for songs interrupted by the year-end break don't seem to have much of a difference from songs that aren't interrupted.

That, and the fact that those two weeks are skewed by other factors: - Holiday songs cutting into airplay. - Recurrents seeing lots of spin gains as many stations air year-end charts and the like.

Does Mediabase take two weeks off or do they update?

Does Mediabase take two weeks off or do they update? If they do as they did last year, they still have regular daily updates.

Still doesn't excuse it for me. What if something happened that caused stations to be off for a week or something? Remember September 11th? I think the chart was frozen for a week after that but I'm pretty sure the weeks on continued. I think that just because radio trends are off a bit, it's not really a good enough reason to not count them.

Actually, that last point only applies to one of the frozen charts. The recurrent play from year end usually is figured into the first chart of the year. One good thing about R&R's skipping those two weeks this year: There hasn't been a number two peak anytime during 2003. "Baby Bash" could make it up to number two by the final update of what would be the December 26 chart.

Look at Nickelback picking up! They may have a shot at #1 yet.

I know that it's already been established that no songs peaked at number 2 on the R&R Pop chart within the calendar year of 2003, but I just looked at the latest update and "Suga Suga" only gains 60 spins and is nearly 300 spins away from "Here Without You". In other words, it looks like no song will peak at number two on the Mediabase update within 2003. However, I've already figured out the chart runs of 40 songs on my version of the charts this year and many songs peak at number two, most of them songs that hit #1 on the R&R chart (i.e. "Bring Me To Life", "Shake Your Tailfeather") that I didn't like enough to put at number one. There were a few other #2 hits that peaked lower on R&R, around the time the top three on R&R was so full of songs that I didn't like, but I can't think of any of them at the moment.

Someone still has a great chance in being in the top ten once the break is over!

Actually, ten different artists have a chance of being in the Top Ten on any given week, unless one of them has two hot songs out ;)
