Is it possible Hoobastank may no longer be an obvious #1 contender?
Mario Winans may well likely vault over Hoobastank before they have the chance to take the top spot.
I am just shocked at how well "I Don't Wanna Know" is doing. It really isn't that catchy at all. I still wonder what the appeal is.

I don't wanna know was really good to start with, but it HAS to be payola'd. It's a good song, but it's not a great song. This song will fall just as fast as it rises. I think Hoobastank will be #1, and Mario may not even get to #2. Either way, She Will Be Loved will be the following #1, and I see Roses being in the Top 10 all summer.

I Dont Wanna Know...its addicting to me. I did not like it at first but man, after a few listens, I cant get enough of it. If it keeps the trash that is the Reason out of the #1 spot, I will throw a party. However, since nothing on the chart happens like I want it, Im sure Hoobastank will get at least one week in before I Dont Wanna Know takes over.

Yeah, I like "I Don't Wanna Know" a lot. The Hoobastank song is so/so, but nothing that's really worthy of a long stay at the top (it's a hell of a lot better than that piece of cowplop they call "In Da Club"!). I have a feeling that Hoobastank will be able to sneak in a week or two at the top, either before or after Mario Winans - possibly both ("Truly Madly Deeply", anyone?)

People who are sick of hearing everything f/Lil' Jon or 50 Cent every half hour finally gets to hear someone with some class, and sounds good! YAY ENYA!

Although I do like Enya's part of the song. I think it sounds haunting but I really doubt she can be given much credit into the success of the song.

Yeah, Enya has credit, no doubt about that, but she certainly is not why this song is rising. Enya has no vocals in the track, and only applied the background music. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

But it's still different than your typical CHR song. As chibingeo says, everything else has 50 Cent, Lil' Jon, Lil' Kim and such on it and it all sounds the same. It's only a matter of time before everyone gets tired of that crap. The only thing bad about that is that it didn't happen any sooner (at least Cookie Monster isn't featured on as many songs as he was in the 2001/2002 time period.

I agree with most of the positive comments on this page about "I Don't Wanna Know". The Enya sample definitely helps make the song, and it's just all around pleasant to listen to. If a rock fan like me puts this at #3 on their personal chart, you know something's going right for it.

I think Mario's bullet will shrink dramatically once he reaches his peak. Even if he passes Hoobastank for a week, he'll lose spins more quickly and Hoobastank will definitely make it to #1. (cf. Yeah & This Love)

"I Don't Wanna Know" was a one-listen for me. I immediately realized it was going to be a pop smash. The Enya sample really does make the song. I can't imagine it being half as big without it.
I'd guess it will reach the top before Hoobastank.

umm, yeah, isn't that the definition of peaking? In other news of the obvious, I predict that as long as Mario Winans is the greatest gainer, he will continue to rocket up the charts, and he will not stop until he has peaked.

Wow, does that mean that when he starts falling, he'll continue to fall down the chart until he drops out (or is moved to recurrent, whichever comes first?)

Jessica is speeding up again and safely inside the top ten. It'd take a HUGE BEP burst now, or a massive dropoff to deny her another top ten hit.

A few thoughts/observations on where things are currently standing:
[/li][li] Maroon5 is, definitely, a lock for a second week on top. Maybe Hoobastank next week? Mario Winans isn't slowing down. The next few weeks should be interesting to watch. [/li][li] A few day's ago I noticed that the gains for "Burn" were in the 300s. Now they're back in the 600s. Wonder how long it'll last? He's on the verge of having 3 singles on the chart, concurrently. It's only a matter of time before we find out how much Usher is too much Usher. I know I've reached my limit. [/li][li] Looks like "Take My Breath Away" isn't going to suffer the "#11 curse" after all. [/li][li] OutKast, Linkin Park, and Nickelback all refuse to leave. I'd like to see at least one of them go recurrent this week. [/li][li] In other OutKast news, "Roses" is now gaining over 600! Where'd that come from? Did PDs just, suddenly, realize that the song existed? It's gain will be fueled even further by the fact that it will, most likely, debut on AT40 this weekend. [/li][li] Love the 22-16* surge by Switchfoot! I predicted several weeks ago that it would, probably, have a run similar to "Falls On Me". So far, it seems to be fulfilling the prophecy. Like FOM, MTL made a huge move into the mid-teens after stalling for several weeks below the top 20. [/li][li] And just cause I was curious, over on the Gold chart (currently reflective of yesterday's play), The Rembrandts' "I'll Be There For You" saw a spike in play. No doubt, many were playing it yesterday to tie into the final episode of Friends.

Like FOM, MTL made a huge move into the mid-teens after stalling for several weeks below the top 20.[/quote] Meant to Live is going to be a greater Falls on Me by this jump. And since it's now out-gaining Sean Paul (!), there's no chance of him overtaking them this week. But I don't count on Switchfoot moving any next week since they're now at the bottom of a block of bulleted titles in the mid-to-upper teens (not to mention the nearest highest unbulleted, With You, is 1100+ away) But this is still great! It may still be a longshot, but I'm going to hold on to my prediction of another Unwell. As for Outkast, Nickelback, and Linkin Park, I'm guessing that not one leaves the Top 20 this week, since Kimberley lost her bullet.

Everyone's so funny today. The emphasis is on the word "dramatically". What I meant was Mario will have a large bullet that will shrink very quickly, thus causing him to peak at whatever position he will be at, as opposed to (1) continuing to gain several hundred more spins once he reaches #1 like Usher or (2) continues to creep up the chart slowly by sustaining small bullets for several weeks. An example of what I mean: #2 8000, +800 #2 8200, +200 #2 8150, -50 i.e. a bullet that shrinks very quickly at the peak position. As opposed to: (1) #1 8300, +500 #1 8650, +350 #1 8850, +200 #1 8900, +50 #1 8910, +10 i.e. the song continues to gain spins for 5 more weeks at its peak and loses its bullet very slowly. Or, (2) #5 6900, +300 #4 7000, +100 #3 7100, +100 i.e. the bullet does not shrink quickly and it does not occur at its peak either. I hope this clears up any misconceptions that your feeble-minded muddled brains may have.

Whoa, Maroon 5 at -430! :o This is not good news for longevity for sure. Plus, Usher is only ~180 spins from Maroon 5 and is losing about 100 spins less than Maroon 5. If losses don't increase for Usher, he MIGHT have the chance to reenter the #1 spot midweek next week and possibly be taken over by Hoobastank. But there is a chance Yeah! could return to #1 for one more week.

Switchfoot's 22-16 isn't so much a surge as a low, steady gain that finally got rewarded. They haven't been +300 at the end of the week since the first week of '04.

I find it mindblowing, how Maria Mena may debut next week in the Top 40. Has anyone heard this song? It's really annoying, and she is just the biggest duff I have ever seen. Not to mention, Los Lonely Boys are moving there way up and as well, they are absolutely dreadful. There hasn't been any good new "pop" music for the last two months or so. Hopefully Destiny's Child, Gwen Stefani, and new Eminem can take care of that this summer. Especially some new pop\rock songs, why do you think Nickelback and Linkin Park are hanigng around so long? Their is nothing to replace them with. You look at the alternative charts right now and their really isn't anything playable with the exception of a few songs. Top 40 stations are too afraid to give their station any diversity by giving the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lostprophets, Incubus, 311, etc. a chance. Thank god Blink 182 had prior hits or stations would be like "ahhoisaaaa aaaa! they are an alternative band, too much for our station, we better go ahead and play that latest Sugababes or Los Lonely Boys garbage, aoooiaaiioaoaaoaaa"

Since there are now not many good pop songs out there I think that Avril's My Happy Ending actually has a chance to do well this summer. I didn't really think it would do well but with songs like Maria Mena's out there anything can happen.
It is exactly one month until its add date.

I cannot believe this!! :o How on earth did "The Reason" become a top 3 hit?? This is probably the biggest overrated song that I've heard of all this year. I can't believe that such a dreadful piece has become so successful at mainstream. Shame on you pop radio! Ugh.
