This song was a huge flop in the UK charts. #24. It just shows that even though the video was played all the friggin time, doesn't make people care. If it's a s**t song, it's a s**t song; doesn't matter who's singing it. Some quotes which I find sum up this song very well: "Avril now targets homelessness for her special brand of ham fisted social commentary." "I.e. the words 'highly' and 'inappropriate' spring to mind." "Beyond the bold statement 'homelessness is bad' it's all a bit puzzling." "The video throws even more fog on the matter. In it our heroine juxtaposes being homeless herself (by wearing an appalling birds nest wig which she washes in a service station sink) and performing at a classical recital in a nice frock." "Hell is empathising from a passing limousine." Since when did a flop on the UK charts determine the quality of a song? If I can remember I believe Westlife has had at least 6 # 1's on their chart. Besides, the song isn't a about homelessness. It could be taken many different ways, that's just one way it's interpreted. I hate the video, and so did Avril for that reason. I think she wanted to leave the meaning of the song up to it's audience.

I really think Avril should have released something other than this. I mean, it's a good song, but it just isn't something that should have been a single, it would have been better left alone as a standout album track. I bet this will go top 10 because of MHE's success, I think it will stall #7 though.

That's a pretty darn good prediction for something you feel should not have been released. I don't think it's realistic to aim for no. 1 when singles 1 and 2 missed, so no. 7 would be great, actually..

I hope it peaks higher than #7, I hope for top 5.

I didn't want it released, but it's just a prediction. I didn't base it on how much I liked it, I based it on where I think it will end up. I mean the public seem to like it for the most part. Personally, I wished it would have missed top 20 all together so new single would be released sooner.
I think that #1 isn't out of the question for Avril, but with a different song it would be much easier.

I dont think any song on the album is a surefire #1 hit (Happy Ending the closest and ironically it missed by 10 or less spins ) Nobodys Home was a good choice to me-its ballad-y for winter and one of her better ones. I can see it peaking 8-13 place and the 4th single hopefully can outpeak her last 4th single peak, sustaining her sales into the beginning of 2005.

I know this has been addressed (probably) but is there any word on what the 4th single will be? What is the fan favorite? (or is there one...)

It was rumored they were thinking about, 'He Wasn't.' I really hope it isn't true.

I love this song! Avril really did a great job with it. Hopefully, it will continue to rise and get her a fourth official number one.

I agree about He Wasn't. It'd just make her efforts of "growing" with this album seem pointless. I think she should release Fall to Pieces.

I think Avril's next single should be a harder track. I would like to see either Together or Take Me Away released next, preferably Together.
But it looks like He Wasn't will be the next single- she said it would be in a recent interview that I found on an Avril forum.
I think He Wasn't is a good, catchy song. Avril obviously likes it- she opened her concert that I went to last night with He Wasn't. This song will probably be another Top 10 for her, assuming Nobody's Home does as well as I think it will (Top 5 or even # 1).
Speaking of Nobody's Home's chances at getting # 1- I think it has a very good chance. By the time she gets up to around 7000 spins, Over And Over will be over with, and I Don't Want To Be should be losing spins by that time. Her only direct competition right now is Snoop Dogg, and I can't see a song like that hitting # 1- it will probably run into a wall around # 3 like Goodies did. The only thing Avril should worry about is if she possibly gets passed by fast-rising Kelly Clarkson.

If the comparisons I've heard of "He Wasn't" to "Sk8er Boi" are accurate, it would indeed be a terrible single choice.

That is really, really bizarre. Are they listening to the same cd??!?! (Like I said, I have only read maybe 5-6 reviews so I wouldnt know the general consensus) To me, it doesnt evendeserve to be on such a good and solid cd

I think she will destroy much she has built up if she releases He Wasn't. It is so Sk8terboi and the worst song on the album.
The other songs are much better in comparison.

I'd like to say I could find those reviews, but I read three where they stated "He Wasn't" was the best song on the album. I disagree too, but it may be good for radio.

"fall to pieces" is one of my favorite tracks on the album....but i don't know if it'll do anything on radio, i can see people thinking it's a little too dull for a single - better single that "losing grip" tho

"Sk8er" Boi is much better than "He Wasn't". I agree with that. "He Wasn't" is by far the worst song that Avril has ever performed.

"Skater Boy" was actually my favorite song on the "Let Go" album, but "He Wasn't" does not hold a candle to it.

The Billboard review:
AVRIL LAVIGNE Nobody's Home Producer(s): Don Gilmore Writer(s): A. Lavigne, B. Moody Publisher(s): various Label/Catalog Number: RCA 82876 65631 (CD promo) Source: Billboard Magazine Originally Reviewed: December 04, 2004
Avril Lavigne is having no trouble holding radio's favor with her sophomore platinum set, "Under My Skin." Single No. 3—following "Don't Tell Me" and the fab "My Happy Ending"—hits the airwaves at mainstream and adult top 40 radio with immediate impact. Lyrically, "Nobody's Home" skillfully tells the tale of a girl in trouble: "She wants to go home, but nobody's home/It's where she lies, broken inside/With no place to go to dry her eyes/Broken inside." Melodically, the song delivers what we've come to expect, with a sea of grizzled guitars, driving percussion and a surefire vocal from Lavigne, who wrote the song with former Evanescence guitarist/songwriter Ben Moody. For now, Lavigne's repertoire continues to sound pretty fresh, though a couple more of these midtempo pouty rockers are likely to fill her career quotient of the brand. Might be time to try something new.—CT
