Would Lauryn Hill really count seeing as she was the lead vocalist of a popular Grammy winning group 2 years before?

I would think so. She went from being a part of a group to a solo artist. I still don't understand how she was nominated from Best New Artist when she already had some Grammys w/The Fugees.

If Madonna gets a top ten with GMAYL, she'll have had top ten singles in 4 separate decades -- who else has managed this? Was it answered already in this thread?

^Cher and Barbra Streisand had top 10s in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
Babs' sole 90s top 10 was her duet with Bryan Adams- at 54, it also made her the oldest female to score a top 10 on the Hot 100. Will someone top that in the future?

I wondered if Elton John also managed it, apparently not.
Michael Jackson would qualify if you include the Jackson 5, correct? I think You Rock My World hit #10.

^Actually I'm realizing he would qualify even without the Jackson 5. The Jackson 5 would take him to 5 decades.

Yah- Elton's first U.S. chart appearance was 1970. While he's scored UK top 10s in the 2000s, he only got as high as No. 49 in the USA, and that was in 2000.

^Indeed- course, one came in 1969 and the other in 1970- and then the third top 10 came 29 years later.

Billboard.com:
With one more top 40 entry, Madonna will match the totals tallied by the Beatles and the "Glee" cast (50 each). Elvis Presley leads all acts with 80 top 40 hits dating to the Hot 100's Aug. 4, 1958, launch. The only other acts with more than 50 top 40 songs are Elton John (57) and Lil Wayne (55).
Most Top 40 Hits on the Hot 100
1. Elvis Presley 80 2. Elton John 57 3. Lil Wayne 55 4. Glee Cast 50 4. The Beatles 50 5. Madonna 49

While waiting to see if Madonna joins the club today, I thought of another act that has had top tens in four consecutive decades - Aeromsith in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s

You're talking about songs, but I think it's interesting that Paul McCartney has had a top 5 album in the 5 decades of the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s. And if you include the Beatles, 6 decades with the 60s.

Very cool. I think Barbra Streisand can claim the same thing - six decades with top 5 albums.

Can we count Neil? I think those are two different versions of his song - one slow and one fast.

I guess Elton John's 2 songs don't count then, as they're different versions.

Candle In the Wind and Candle In The Wind 1997 both hit the top 10 but were two different songs with different lyrics
Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - Elton John and
Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - George Michael/Elton John both hit top 10 twice
The different artist credit leads me to believe these are different songs too

This has probably already been answered, but who was the 1st female to have their DEBUT ALBUM debut at the #1 spot on the BB200? 'Whitney' in 1987

Whitney wasn't her debut. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill debuted at #1, I can't think of anyone before her.

^We've already discussed and answered this.
Britney Spears did it in 1999?

I misread the original wording about "DEBUT"
Oops
Although almost every #1 album debuts there now, pre-Soundscan, only a few of them did. Which, at least to me, makes the Whitney debut at #1 (yes it was album #2) stand out more
