I think it's a bit soon for that. She'll probably just be promoting her movie!

WOW, you mean to tell me she's going to actually be on TRL after how many years of her being out?
She drops her management and bam, next thing you know she's on TRL. I wonder why 19 never gave her bookings like this.
Smart movie fantasia as 19 was holding her back, perhaps they didn't care for fantasia and wanted her to barely make it in music by giving her crap promotion. However, four grammy nominations later it looks like she made it through quite fine.

LOL! This is her second time on TRL. She and Diana Degarmo did TRL after the win.

BIG BOI ON NEW FANTASIA ALBUM!!!
Fantasia embraces her mother Diane (Viola Davis) in 'The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life is Not a Fairy Tale,' a TV movie airing this week. Photo Courtesy of Lifetime Television Story Tools Printer Friendly Email to a Friend Enlarge Font Decrease Font On TV this week
"The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life is Not a Fairy Tale" premieres at 9 p.m. Saturday on Lifetime Television, with additional airings at 8 p.m. Aug 20 and 9 p.m. Aug. 21. Five who lived parallel lives
Fantasia Barrino isn't the only star in the universe who has played herself in dramatic roles. Here are some others who dared, with varied success.
The most powerful scene in Lifetime's "The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life Is Not a Fairy Tale" takes place in a church, not the "American Idol" set, and much of its power comes from the star's rafter-shaking vocals anyway.
Choking with sobs, the disgraced, pregnant teenager (played by Barrino herself) bursts into the middle of a High Point church service, doubled over as if in pain, and belts out a hymn. The pastor is her grandmother, Addie Collins (Loretta Devine), and Barrino's mother, Diane Barrino (Viola Davis), sings in the choir.
Both move toward Fantasia, singing redemption right back to her. By the scene's end, the entire congregation kneels around them, embracing as one.
It's a little too reminiscent of the scene in "The Color Purple" when prodigal juke joint singer Shug Avery rejoins her estranged preacher daddy in worship and song. But Barrino's startling display of emotion makes the little steal forgivable -- and makes you want to believe, even if it's too cinematic to be true.
"No, it didn't happen," says Barrino, speaking by phone as the premiere approaches. "But yes, it kind of did, in its own certain kind of way."
Maybe she means that God gave her strength -- and blessed her with a voice that moves people. That voice won her a brighter future.
The future included the 2004 "American Idol" championship, a 2 million-selling album (with a follow-up on the way) and a best-selling memoir, "Life Is Not a Fairy Tale." The book tells the story of Barrino's pregnancy, of being raped by a high school classmate and of her struggle with illiteracy. Lifetime's TV adaptation doesn't skip those details on its way to a happy ending.
Director Debbie Allen has called Barrino's saga "the story of the American dream -- someone who really has a gift and, against all odds and challenges, goes the distance."
In Barrino's view, the movie has other messages. It's a cautionary tale for young women who may not realize they deserve respect. And it's an answer to those who called her trashy while she was on "American Idol" as news of her unwed motherhood seeped out.
"When you see a person trying to better themselves, don't be so quick to put them down," Barrino says now.
On the phone, Barrino sounds friendly and jovial, playful and congenial, like someone who makes friends easily and often. Only when she's prompted to go over unpleasant memories does she seem anxious. Her "mmmms" sound almost involuntary, as if she's wincing, or bracing herself, as she talks about the sexual assault scene in the film.
She says she balked at first when it came to filming the scene.
"Miss Debbie -- she would understand," Barrino says. "I would walk off the set and I would tell her, 'I can't do that scene.' And she wouldn't say, 'Yes you can,' or 'You will do it,' or 'You have to do it.' She said to me, 'Baby, it's whatever you want to do. If you feel like you can't do it, that's OK. We can move on.' "
The scene got done. Allen's son Norm Nixon Jr. played Barrino's attacker, and Barrino says his sensitivity and humor ("He's crazy") helped her get through it.
Barrino sounds happy to chat about her cast mates. She enjoyed working with Devine ("She's very funny") and Kadeem Hardison, whom "everybody has a crush on from 'Different World' " -- he plays her father, JoJo. Jamia Simone Nash, the almost-10-year-old "Backyardigans" voice talent, is a jaw-dropping surprise as the young Fantasia, with her big, pitch-perfect singing voice.
"She is amazing," Barrino says. "She is a very wise little girl. And when that little girl opened her mouth, she would just give me chills. And she reminded me so much of me. Nobody could have played it better."
Aretha, Tina in her sights
Barrino's movie may be the start of the conversation, but it's hardly the only thing on her mind.
She turned 22 on June 30 and celebrated with a party in Charlotte, her current home. She says she has much to celebrate.
"Everything I used to doubt myself about, I overcame all of that," she says. "I'm a conqueror."
For starters, she's looking for a teacher to help her pass her general equivalency diploma. "That's the best feeling ever -- when you can go back and actually earn something that you yourself gave up on," she says.
She has also reached an accord with the father of her daughter, Zion. His portrayal in the film isn't flattering, to say the least, but she's mindful that her daughter will benefit from his presence. Besides, she says, the past is behind them -- no hard feelings.
And she hasn't given up on love, but don't get any ideas about the juicy kiss she shared with actor-singer-comedian Jamie Foxx on the BET Awards in June.
"Oh no!" she cackles, then adds: "What woman wouldn't wanna kiss Jamie Foxx?" she says. In other words: That doesn't mean anything's going on, so calm down, everybody.
But Barrino's main focus is her second album (she's leaning toward the title "Young Girl, Old Soul"), which she's recording in Los Angeles. She hopes to have a single out by September with the album to follow in November.
Her debut, "Free Yourself," featured collaborations with A-list hip-hop/R&B producers and writers such as Missy Elliott, Jermaine Dupri and Rodney Jerkins. This time, she has worked closely with producers toward a particular musical direction -- something she says she prayed to figure out.
"What dropped in my spirit was like, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, that old school music," she says, "but, you know, just kind of like putting a little bit of my swing with it. I'm pretty excited."
So far, her current wish list of guest artists for her second album has been only been partially fulfilled. Outkast's Big Boi appears on a track called "Hood Boy." And she has recorded two songs with Diane Warren, a Midas of adult contemporary tunes. One song, "I Feel Beautiful," she wrote for Barrino. Warren plays guitar on it.
"She's very amazing," Barrino says. "When I sing it, I always think of my mother."
She's confident that she'll get to collaborate with former tour mate Kanye West. On the road she performed Aerosmith's "Dream On," and Barrino says that "I kind of want to make that song over and see what me and Kanye can come up with."
Her wish list also includes J Records label mate Foxx, Charlotte native Anthony Hamilton, R&B love man du jour Ne-Yo and Goodie Mob/Gnarls Barkley singer Cee-Lo Green, whom she calls "a true artist."
Most of all, Barrino would love to sweet-talk Franklin, her idol and another label mate, into a guest appearance. For now, she's thrilled enough to have been asked to sing a duet called "Let Me Put You Up on Game" on Franklin's next album.
"I remember getting a call from [J Records founder] Clive [Davis], and he says, 'Aretha Franklin wants to talk to you,' " she says. "It took me two weeks to call her."
Low points and High Point
If it sounds like a fairy tale to chat with Aretha Franklin, it's worth remembering how Barrino reached the pinnacle.
With a full pedigree of singing talent -- grandfather, father, uncles -- she drove to Atlanta with her brother for the "American Idol" audition and belted out "Proud Mary." After making the cut, she soared in the early competition. Her experience singing gospel in church and as part of a traveling family act helped define her signature style, a natural presence and the ability to improvise.
Then came a backlash as word got out that Barrino was an unwed mother. In a scene in "Life Is Not a Fairy Tale," "Idol" executives tell Barrino that she's free to drop out of the competition if she wishes.
The New York Post reported that "Idol" producer Ken Warwick was angry about the scene after it was described to him. He said that producers knew about Barrino's baby from the beginning and that it never mattered to them. Neither Warwick nor co-producer Nigel Lythgoe could be reached for this report, and Lifetime declined to comment on the matter.
Whatever happened behind the scenes, Barrino prevailed with the audience as her hometown cheered.
"We're all thrilled that she's where she is," says Betsy Collins, who organized viewing parties and helped raise money for the Barrinos to visit the singer in California. "And we're looking forward to her having a glorious career like Patti Labelle and Aretha Franklin."
Still, Collins is disappointed that Barrino seems to have distanced herself from her hometown up until now.
"In her book, Fantasia wanted to get out of High Point, and she had very little positive to say about High Point," Collins says. "I just want her to ... say something positive about High Point at some point. That's just real important."
Barrino's grandmother Addie Collins (no relation to Betsy) says the singer does appreciate High Point.
"Fans were here waiting -- cheering her on," Addie Collins says. "And it blew her mind. That's why she cried and said, 'Oh God, I never thought all of these people would love me.' 'Cause that's what she was doing -- searching for love, but in all the wrong places.
"Some big things are coming," she adds. "She's going to come back and give to High Point."

Yeah, that sounds good! Big Boi from Outkast on her CD- that sounds good too! Recent articles have also said she's working with Steven Tyler and Sean Garrett too.
oh and this part:
:faint:
I will lose my mind if they do a track together.

NY Post gives the ovie 3 1/2 stars out of 4! IT'S the role she was born to play - literally! Some might say it's not exactly a challenge for someone to play him- or herself in a made-for-TV movie, as Fantasia Barrino does in "The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life is Not a Fairy Tale," premiering Saturday and airing again on Sunday and Monday nights on Lifetime. But think about it. Could you play yourself? Would you even want to? I have no desire to star in "The Adam Buckman Story" (and no one has asked me to, either), although my own life of relative ease and good luck can hardly be compared to the struggles of Fantasia, who overcame long odds - including dyslexia and a pregnancy at age 16 - to win the third edition of "American Idol" in May 2004. To play herself in "Life is Not a Fairy Tale" - which is based on her autobiography of the same name - Fantasia had to relive a number of bitter, emotional scenes from her life, including the time she was raped inside her high school by a male classmate who she thought was her friend. Whether or not you deem it sufficiently challenging, she does a terrific job in the title role - a performance that marks this movie as another personal triumph for her, on par with writing a best-selling book and winning "Idol." Directed by Debbie Allen, "Life is Not a Fairy Tale" begins with Fantasia as a six-year-old singing prodigy (played by a real-life prodigy, the amazing Jamia Simone Nash) growing up in a church-going (and gospel-singing) family in High Point, N.C. Life takes a series for wrong turns for Fantasia as her parents (played by Kadeem Hardison and Viola Davis) break up and she battles self-esteem issues connected in part to her dyslexia, which discourages her from learning. After a period of truancy, she drops out of high school and conceives a child with her aimless, unfaithful boyfriend. The sad story of her life, up until the time that her friends persuade her to go to Atlanta to audition for "American Idol," makes her eventual victory on the TV show all the more remarkable. It's an inspiring story that leaves you wondering what Fantasia, who today is all of 22 years-old, will do next. "The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life is Not a Fairy Tale" Tomorrow night at 9 on Lifetime ETA: Heres the link: www.nypost.com/entertainment/entertainment.htmThere's a picture of Tasia from TRL and it has 3 1/2 stars next to the title. YAHOO!!!!

The NY Post has really loved this movie. You can tell by their reviews of it that they not only watched and enjoyed it but they also understood the concept. They understood that in much of the movie Fantasia is playing an insecure teenager. The reviews that I've read that are negative saying that she can't act because she looks insecure and unsure in the role don't get that fact, she's playing an insecure 16 y/o how's she supposed to look. Is she supposed to be all up in the camera saying "I'm the best", that wouldn't make any sense. She played it correctly, shy and insecure.
New York Post is fabulous for watching, understanding and reviewing fairly. If reviewers are watching the movie and not understanding it, IMO, they have no business reviewing something too complex for them.

It was good, but she was a HORRIBLE actress.

Well, she had to play herself because singing was a big part. As Loretta Devine said, no one else could do the songs (at least not as great as Fantasia). Yeah, they could have gotten a more experienced actress, but when she opened her mouth to sing it wasn't going to sound as great as the person they are playing, so, that wouldn't have been great either. It would have been one exchange for another so Fantasia was the right choice for the role, especially since the role was about a singer.
For a first movie role, not to mention she was the lead, with zero acting experience up to that point, no training, this girl was great (movie was shot in 19 days, there wasn't anytime for acting lessons). It's not like Beyonce who was seen as a horrible actress before dreamgirls but that shows you was a $100 Mil budget and lots of time can buy, it can buy acting lessons and turn the worse actress into amazing (she's supposed to all of a sudden be really good).
Edit: She said she did this movie to inspire people in similar situations so I don't think her goal was to win acting awards by having people rave about how great her acting is, that would have been unrealistic. I think those she was trying to reach tonight are more inspired and touched with her in the role instead of her hiding behind some trained robot as they butcher the songs. LOL

jewel88 you summed it up perfectly it was a Lifetime movie not a big budget Hollywood production, 19 days to shoot it and no acting lessons so on that alone i give Fantasia props and of course God Bless The Child was awesome...If Beyonce can improve so can Tasia with the right acting coach , i personally would of been scared out of my mine to do this but not Tasia..
