I haven't listened to the album online yet, but I just watched them on SNL and I liked the second song they did about as much as "When You Were Young". Which is to say, not all that much. Does not bode well for me liking the full album. Disappointing. :(

I think the second song they did on SNL could have the potential to be another "Mr Brightside". It was odd, but it could grow on me. "When You Were Young" didn't grab me at first listen, and I am still up in the air about it. I bought "Hot Fuss", but so far I haven't the desire to buy this one.

Best Buy is selling the album with 2 bonus tracks... I wonder if they are the 2 tracks on the Japanese version or different?

I heard them on SNL yesterday...they are awful live. I don't like them anyway, but the singer was horrible.

I just streamed the album, and add me to the disappointed list.
I kind of liked "For Reasons Unknown" and "Read My Mind." But I don't like anything (at least on one listen) enough to want the album or to even download either of those tracks.

OK. So I haven't made a post in like 50 years but the bashing of this amazing album made me decide to write a post. This is album is stunning. It's great. The melodies are insanely tight, they may not be as simple as the melodies on hot fuss but basically what we have here is a concept album with great writing and wonderful production. They went in with an idea of how they wanted to sound and they really captured it. Being a big bruce springsteen fan, I can see what they wanted to do and it's really good. It annoys me because how come people arent all over christina aguilera for "writing" an album that is mediocre updated versions of classic artists and songs? My favorite songs on Sam's Town are "Bones", "Why Do I Keep Counting?", "My List", "Sam's Town", "When You Were Young" & "Read My Mind". "Bones" is an amazing second single and will do well if radio approaches it because I think once people hear it a few times they will totally get it. Of course this is all my opinion, I just can't stand people not really listening and forming a solid opinion before totally bashing it.

I'm enjoying Sam's Town. Sure, it doesn't grab you the way Hot Fuss did, but this album gets better with each listen, much like WYWY. It's too bad people are just quick to write them off and the album itself when they've only heard the album once.

Oh and aside from the silly arguing...honestly how much do u think this album will sell in it's first week and during it's entire run in the US? I say first week sales between 175k - 220k first week and 2.2 - 2.5 Million in the US. Please give me your REAL opinion and not just be mean cuz you don't like them.

I finally got to listen to the stream. While I don't like it nearly as much as Hot Fuss, I'll probably still pick it up. Especially since I can get it for $10 at either Target or Best Buy. It seems like it would be a good background CD for driving.

I'm planning to buy this, even though the reaction over here is not too promising.

Good guesses, I was thinking between 200k - 250k first week. Entire run will depend on the success of future singles... I think they're on the right track with "Bones" up next. I'll be happy with 1.5 - 2 million US. The album is not as 'instant' as "Hot Fuss". Perhaps it will never grow on some people, or maybe it's just not their style. I can respect that... to me, it's less pop-friendly, less dance/new wave influenced, but I appreciate the subtle changes here and just dig the songs in their own right.

I can't wait to see the "Bones" video directed by Tim Burton. I feel like it's a perfect match. I think "Bones" will way outperform "When You Were Young" even though that was great itself.

I finally got to hear it online and to see what the big fuss is about Killers. Honestly, nothing grabs my interest. I find among these new batch of cds, Beck's The Information and The Kooks' Inside In Inside Out are much more interesting. Sorry, The Killers is pass for me.

Anyways, I listened the album a second time paying more attention and I really like it now. It's on the same level as Hot Fuss for me. Singles can easily be chosen too.

I don't know why people here are hating on it, but I'm loving the cd. My favorite songs so far are "Read My Mind", "Uncle Jonny", "Why Do I Keep Counting", and of course "Bones." The Best Buy release includes a bonus cd with "All The Pretty Faces" and "Daddy's Eyes." ATPF is a song they did when I saw them live last summer so I'm glad to get a studio version of it. DE is another great song. My only complaint is that Best Buy put the bonus tracks on a separate cd rather than the main one.

UK Midweeks
Albums
The Killers are a certainty to reach number one with their second album this weekend after retailers report Sam’s Town broke through six figures during its first day on sale.
The Mercury album, which was released yesterday, has already sold more than 100,000 copies to outperform its nearest challenger by around three copies to one. It will be looking to match or even surpass the first-week sales last month of another Universal second album, Scissor Sisters’ Tah-Dah! which opened with 288,167 sales and is now set to be replaced at one by The Killers.

Considering the lead single has had a trajectory (so far) of 29 - 29 - 51 - 49 - 52 - 53 - 51...would it be considered a semi-flop? Sort of, because it can be expected for any follow-up to a multi-platinum effort to get hyped a lot, and every lead single from an accomplishment is expected to ratchet up lots of first-week iTunes excitement until tapering off almost as dramatically. When you look at the Pop chart, yes, so far this can absolutely be deemed a semi-flop, because so far the single isn't performing any better than "All These Things That I've Done" has, and when your lead single on a follow-up of a triple-platinum record has so far peaked lower than all three mainstream singles from their last album, that's terrible news all around. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I think it'll sell more like 250K in its first week, but will fall fairly quickly and won't go beyond a platinum certification. Overall sales I predict will be between 900,000 and 1.3 million. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Sincerely, Noah Eaton Okay, thanks for the clarification. I agree, that if the Killers' primary goal was to duplicate -- or better -- their previous performances on that chart, it appears their first single is falling short. However, with an album that comes off to me as less pop-friendly/catchy/immediate, my hunch is that they're trying to move slightly in another direction (while regaining/keeping/gaining their modern rock fanbase) at the expense of some airplay on pop stations.

I haven't listened to Hot Fuss, but I can say I'm loving Sam's Town after buying it on a whim. The first single is so catchy and different from their last two hits. I haven't encountered a skippable track yet. My favorite tracks are "WTWY", "For Reasons Unknown" and "Read My Mind."
If Sam's Town is this good, Hot Fuss must be amazing.
