================== Las Vegas band The Killers, who made a huge splash with their debut album Hot Fuss, will follow it up with their sophomore set on October 3. The album is reportedly titled Sam's Town, according to Billboard. The lead single, "When You Were Young," won't impact at radio until July 24, but a sneak preview of the tune will be streaming online today on IslandRecords.com at 5 p.m. EST. The Killers recently finished recording the new record with producers Flood and Alan Moulder, who have a worked on countless notable records together and separately. The Killers' debut album Hot Fuss was a smash, selling over five million copies worldwide with four hit radio singles. Killers frontman Brandon Flowers spoke to MTV.com in May about the band's new album. He said, "I'd like to think people will like it. Because we're still entertainers, and people still want a good show. I love to write a good line or a melody, and that's important, but we're still entertainers. And hopefully we'll be entertaining lots of people." =================== Can't wait to hear some new Killers music.

I heard Tim Burton will direct two of the upcoming singles, not "When You Were Young" though. That would be cool if true.

"When You Were Young" sounds like Bruce Springsteen's "Born To Run", induced with a shot of power-pop saccharin, sprinkled with signature Killers' 80's synthesizers and keyboard effects like Sour Straw sugar crystals, powered with meaty guitars like those from Coldplay's "Talk", and topped with a maraschino cherry near the end that is that The Killers must have listened to The Darkness or something recently too and tried going for a Justin Hawkins falsetto or higher note at one small point at the ed of the song.
Having said that, it's not necessarily a bad thing; I like this better than "Mr. Brightside" (although I like it much less than "All These Things That I've Done"). It's just that it sounds like The Killers are trying way too hard to record a hit, yet the funny thing is all at once it also sounds like they're not trying hard at all, as I suggest above in that this sounds like they listened to "Born To Run" over and over and then wrote an interpretation of the song without making it sound like a blatant rip-off of it.
My Grade: B-/C+
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Ah Ha! www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/2006/7/11/Killers_Brace_for_Sophomore_Slump"The disc was recorded with acclaimed producers Flood and Alan Moulder and heavily influenced by Bruce Springsteen, according to the band. If the "When You Were Young" snippet is any indication, they weren't lying: it's got that "wind blowing through your hair as you cruise down the Jersey turnpike" vibe in spades.";) Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I kind of like the song, but not nearly as much as I do with All These Things That I've Done or Mr. Brightside. Perhaps it's a grower. I will wait and see if I will buy the album. :)

I will wait and see if I will buy the album. :) It's definitely worse than "All These Things That I've Done" in my opinion. But I do like it better than "Mr. Brightside". Though "Mr. Brightside" was still better than most Top 40 material during the time of its release, I just never got into that single. It's just so repetitive, with the same riff and chord progression from start to finish, while the first and second verses are almost exactly identical, with the exact same lyrics used in both verses and the song never picking itself up with the lack of a bridge or break-down. "When You Were Young" has more depth than "Mr. Brightside" in that, despite the lyrics being no better than those from "Mr. Brightside" (the lyric "He doesn't look a thing like Jesus" is so mediocre) musically I think "When You Were Young" is superior to "Mr. Brightside" in that there is a bridge, a moment of tension and repose in the track, which is then followed by small guitar solos. Also, though I feel both songs were desperate attempts to pick up Pop hits, "When You Were Young" is more diverse-sounding and energetic. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I love this song. While it has a Springsteen vibe, they still stayed true to their musical sound. Also, this is the first song of theirs that the lyrics match the soaring music. By far my favorite Killers song and my favorite song of 2006.

I've listened to this a few times now and I like it. I'm definitely interested to hear what else they've come up with for this album.

Track List: "Sam's Town" "Enterlude" "When You Were Young" "Bling" "For Reasons Unknown" "Read My Mind" "Uncle Jonny" "Bones" "My List" "This River Is Wild" "Why Do I Keep Counting?" "Exitlude" These song titles are interestingly quite apt in comparison to those of "Hot Fuss". It's not really a bad thing, but in my experience I guess I've found that songs with longer song titles are usually more artistic and creative than those with shorter titles (and there certainly are exceptions, no doubt about that) Sincerely, Noah Eaton

From iTunes:
Pre-order the album today and get the video for "When You Were Young" and a bonus track, "Where The White Boys Dance." When you pre-order Sam's Town, the single "When You Were Young" will begin to download immediately. Your credit card will be billed for the $.99 track, and the remainder will be charged separately when the album becomes available.
Where The White Boys Dance!! I'm so tempted to pre-order this. But I really want an actual copy of the CD when it comes out, so I don't know.

The video for " When You Were Young" has its own teaser trailer! www4.islanddefjam.com/media/killers/trailer/It's directed by Anthony Mandler (Eminem's "When I'm Gone," Nelly's "Maneater," Rihanna's "Unfaithful"), not Q. Tarantino, as rumored.

Hot Fuss is Up to #20 from #27 this week on the catalogue charts, meaning dispite its relativily low position on the charts (#52 this week on the charts) the single when you were young is generating interset in the grood; a good the for their new album.

After two years on the charts Hot Fuss is olso going up in UK and re-entering the top30 at #30!!! Sales for the album are at around 1.400.000 there, so WYWY is also helping their first album there, a very very good sign for Sam's Town which is out on the stores in Europe the same day as Robbie Williams new album. Hot Fuss is also #59 this week in Irland up from #66, and WYWY enters the single chart at #8 position just on downloads (a physical single coming next week whiwh could push them at the #1 position)!
