New message from Nelly Furtado!! - [17/02/2005] Hello from Nelly!
Hello everybody!!! How are you? I hope you are having a wonderful 2005 so far. I am recording a brand new album. It will be released on my new label, Geffen/Interscope , sometime in 2005/06. I am very excited and inspired right now. I am working with several different people on this album. If you have a chance, check out the K'naan website. I better go now and get back to work!
Love,
Nelly ___________________________
I adore Folklore. I think it's such a step up from her debut. I can't wait to hear the new one! I love Nelly's voice and her style. She's not afraid to take risks. Yes, Folklore didn't perform well but at least she's not throwing in the towel.
Go Nelly! :)

I think Folklore is way better than the debut too. It's great to hear she's going to put out another album.

Her debut material gets on my last nerves, but Folklore is amazing and made me a fan. "Try" is one of my all-time favorite songs now. I can't wait for new stuff!

Am I the only one here who thinks though "Folklore" was still a quality record, "Whoa Nelly!" was superior?
In any case, Nelly Furtado is a talented young songwriter and though it seems unlikely she may ever reach the success of her debut again, I wish the best for her next release.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Her debut material gets on my last nerves, but Folklore is amazing and made me a fan. I feel the same way. As for the sound of the album I think she'll try something that could work in the US as well as in Europe.

I really liked both Whoa, Nelly and Folklore -- the material on Folklore is better, IMO, but I preferred the production on Whoa, Nelly -- just seemed fresher and a bit more organic. Really looking forward to her next record -- I hope it gets the US and international promotion it deserves!
In the meantime, Nelly Furtado has a really pretty duet with Michael Bublé on his current album. It's a cover of "Quando, Quando, Quando" -- they both sound great.
Edited to ask -- how many copies did Folklore sell in the US? Last I checked, it was around 287K, but that was around this time last year.

Update from Nelly!!
New Message From Nelly, 4/25/05!
Hi everybody..how are you?.I am going to write this message in a diary/jornal style, just so it feels more personal....Here is your quirky pop artist journal entry of the day. I am in los angeles recording my new album...woohoo!!! It is very exciting....I am thinking and writing and recording everyday...I hope to be finishing it up in the next couple of months...It's got lots of surprises, so I can't tell you too much right now, but let's just say it's a whole lot of fun!!!!! It is a whole other side of me!!! I have been going to shows here and there.....the K'naan show, the K-Os Show, the Death From Above show with Controller Controller in Victoria, BC. Death from above were musically brilliant- super modern- but at the same time -organic- metal...takes you away like few things do..practice responsibly...Right now I am listening to the new Queens of The Stone Age cd....it is soo nice..love the slow mellow song...."why'd ya have to shove it in my face"...ooh....I missed the show, though..damn! I cannot wait for the new System of a Down record to come out mid-may....I loved the last one...I have heard bits of the M.I.A album and it is so cool..what a flow, what a style....and girl can dance!!!I have to go to Amoeba records down the street from the studio...and get some new shiny c.d's...I use my Ipod, but I love buying real c.d.'s and listening to them in my car......Oh!!! Did I mention Feist?...I love that album.,.I loved it so much a couple of months ago that I actually accidentally rear-ended an empty parked car in a parking lot....listening to Feist's beautiful voice..I should not be telling you this....So do not listen to Feist while driving, or do it at a low volume, anyway..Do not worry..no one was hurt, and I did not run away..I waited in the cold for the owner...yep it's true..haha!!! Oh, I just recorded a song with Jellestone called "Friend Of Mine"..It's really cool...Swollen and I are supposed to do a new song together soon...I recorded a track with K'naan for my album...yippee!!! Thanks to Orange studios for all the yummy food. Lots of love...fave magazines right now?..Mothering magazine, Adbusters and Utne....I read them in the bathroom...but I also like Canadian House and Home....while listening to Death From Above..haha!! I am thinking of starting my own internet magazine with really great , inside interviews from artists, politicians, activists, garbage men, gardeners, heroes, and villians, teenagers, the elderly..People.period. Hey..that's what I will call it. People Period. Oooh lala just bought some really cool art in Miami..Miami has art everywhere!!!!!!! I went there and worked with the Neptunes......just Pharrell, actually.....and he is a boy wonder genious.....clothes? I like shopping at American Apparel for simple shirts of every color...and the sweatshop-free thing just wins me over every time!!!!!!! I have been meeting some amazing people lately on the street who have wonderful stories...thanks to the man in Van for the picture of the Orca killer whales!!!! By the way, thanks to everyone who has been helping to save the Sooke Potholes!!!!!! I am going to be getting some wonderful things to auction from some B.C. entertainers..I would really love a signed basketball from Steve Nash.....Anyway, lets' get back to the music. Would you like to hear some tentative new song titles from my new album?
Nelly New Album song titles:
Vice (yo Dean, Yurko, Adrain, and Toadster, we never figured this one out and that was the whole point, but we did a bunch of other wicked stuff!!!!!!!) jam sessions at Cherry Beach.
Let My Hair Down
Hands In THe Air
Weak
Go
Chill Boy
Pretty Boy
There you have it: a few sample song titles...I won't give away the other song titles just yet, but I am about 15 songs deep, and still going ....I will keep you tittilated with new bits of music and information..... okay my friends?
Lots of Love, all around the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nelly

Interesting that she worked with K'Naan. He had/has a pretty interesting single called "Soobax" I made a thread about earlier this year. I'd like to hear how the track with him'd sound.
I'm sure Nelly'll keep up the good work, although "Folklore" would be very hard to beat. "Powerless (Say What You Want), "Try", "Força", "Explode", and "The Grass Is Green" were all the singles from "Folklore", right?

Try is a fantastic song. I can't understand why it didn't do too great, it is ballad brilliancy.

I can't WAIT to hear the new nelly furtado album especially since she is working with Pharrell. Her debut was one of the best albums ever and I still listen to it all the time. It was so young, fresh & new. I think she should collaborate with kelis on her new album. THAT would be amazing. Also...could you imagine a song with Nelly Furtado featuring Gwen Stefani?! Too hot to handle!

NEW MESSAGE FROM NELLY! She reveals the title of the album:
Message from Nelly Jul 21, 2005
Hi everybody!!! How are you? I hope everybody is indulging in the hot pleasures of summer!!! I write this from the 'lab' as I continue to record my new album..It is getting closer to being finished every single day..I have recorded over 20 tracks with many different producers and writers in Toronto, L.A., Miami, and London. My third, internationally released album will be called "Loose".
Awesome! The title is neat. I really just cannot wait for this. Folklore was amazing.

Is "Loose" really a good title for a female artist?
