I'm glad to hear that! The song has fallen a bit on iTunes, but it's still Top 10 on Alternative, and the album moved back into the Top 30. I spent my entire commute home last night envisioning more Kills songs being featured on Gossip Girl. They can become their inhouse band, the show & the band forever joined in an unholy matrimony. "Black Balloon" would provide a perfectly noir background context for the complusory Blair weekly meltdowns (I've stood in a thousand street scenes Just around the corner from you On the edge of a dream that you have Has anybody ever told you, it's not coming true?). "Cheap & Cheerful" could work for any scene, as could "Getting Down". "U R A Fever" obviously has a Chuck & Nate sex scene written all over it. Then we can break out old classics like "Love Is A Deserter" and "Fried My Little Brains" at the stormiest moments. There's really no need for any other band to be featured on the show again.

I can't believe it..."Sour Cherry" #66 on the main iTunes! Gossip Girl is luring people in! Tell me about it. My friend is obsessed with them now. Not so much The Teenagers, though. " Hook And Line" is an addiction. yes it is, I had it stuck in my head all day.

I finally downloaded "Night Train" from iTunes (got a free song download code from Ticketmaster). If anyone wants it, ask me! I love it.

I'm happy say they were mindblowing live. It was almost unbearably intense, the type of performance which could even convert strayed rock 'n roll loyalists back to the altar. I am not even joking. Alison & James really are in their own league onstage. NO ONE today creates an incendiary audiovisual experience in a live setting like these two do. I speak from experience, and last night, they LITERALLY set the house on fire. But after the fire dept. left, the set was back in full swing, losing no momentum whatsoever.
AND OMG SOUR CHERRY WAS f**kING AMAZING LIVE - A LOT OF GIRLS STARTING SCREAMING FOR THAT ONE. And of course, there were many appreciatively flamboyant gasps from the gays as well. And I bonded with the best one of all, as I always do (he called his friend during the "fire" and said: OMG, so we're 4 songs into the set, and I s**t you not, there's a f**king fire on the roof." He also said to me: "You look like a Garbage fan. Quick name your Top 3 favorite Garbage songs. Go!") They find me, as we speak each other's language. We did the little gun motions for "Love Is A Deserter", LOL. We also developed a theory that Karen O phoned in a prank call to the NYPD, and teased the terrible opening band Telepathe mercilessly.
The guest list was impressive: Kate Moss (obviously!), Agyness Deyn, the guy from The Shakers, Christopher Niquet, hipsters galore, ...and me! I also bamboozled the venue into giving my brother a photo pass for the event, because he was about to cry when they took his camera bag.

Washington Post article about the band, mentions Gossip Girl's contribution to their recent success:
The Kills: 'Gossip' Within Earshot [/size] By Lavanya Ramanathan Friday, May 2, 2008; Page C11 If you've turned on the television at all in the past few weeks, you've probably seen the faux scandalous commercials for the new season of "Gossip Girl." That addictive, sexed-up song pumping as the privileged teens, well, writhe? That's the Kills , an Anglo-American duo that won over the indie world back in 2003 with their debut full-length, "Keep on Your Mean Side" -- long before the menacing "Sour Cherry" was purring "shout when you want to get off the ride" from televisions across the country. Tonight, the Kills, who must be seen to be believed, play the Black Cat, one of the first stops on their U.S. tour. As other bands seem to accumulate members, the Kills -- Alison "VV" Mosshart (the American) and Jamie "Hotel" Hince (the Britisher) -- remain small, ragged, pared down, employing only a guitar or two, a drum machine for beats, and hand claps. And on "Midnight Boom," their newest record, the drum machine is at its most prominent, making the Kills' trademark two-minute gutter-blues oddly catchy. To come up with their latest sound, "we didn't listen to anything," says Mosshart, who chatted this week by phone between U.K. dates. "You know when you wake up in the morning and listen to music, it stays with you all day? "We only basically listened to the Kills" -- the music they had just finished recording. Instead, inspiration came from life: "We did things like read books, sit on the porch and smoke cigarettes . . ." But the notoriously lo-fi band has taken up the act of blogging. Mosshart's dispatches from the road are evocative little paintings of new places, and light on the typical band banter. She explains: "It's boring isn't it, talking about the gig every night? The stuff that's interesting to me is that you're going to different countries with different histories." And Washington, with its vaunted punk history, it turns out, is one of her favorite places to play. "My favorite band in the world is Fugazi." The Kills play the Black Cat tonight. $15. 9 p.m. 1811 14th St. NW. Get tickets at the door (202-667-7960) or through Ticketmaster (202-397-7328).

One more mention, haha: gothamist.com/2008/05/02/alexandra_patsa.phpJust mentions that the person behind GG's music thinks the Kills are blowing up & also that they are "current Gossip Girl favs", so I wonder if maybe more of their songs will be used?!

LDOM IS the third single, in the UK, at least. It's out June 16th.
I think they should release Sour Cherry here now, re-release C&C this summer, and if that goes well, LDOM here (or URA Fever with actual promotion this time).

Oh god your detailing of the show experience really makes me want to see them live!
Sour Cherry for US release! It's basically a cult hit already anyway. I've recently gotten addicted to What New York Used To Be. I love the lyrics, so graphic. Hopefully they release it sometime, even as a promo single only.

Me, too. They can easily record one of their cheap, yet fabulous videos for it. The main thing is to SEND IT TO RADIO & TV, perform it wherever they can, and use myspace/facebook/itunes/etc to promote the hell out of it. My brother is developing the photos he took & from what I can tell, they look terrific! Here's a performance of the indubitable classic FRIED MY LITTLE BRAINS: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeBYV-lGY9k10 times more intense live now, if you can even imagine. EDIT: A recent live video of it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRcn42Dj-ho

Take out DIOYY and insert Elbow, and I agree! Oh, and Portishead.
I've been really into the No Wow album lately, too. It's so darkly poetic.

I think this album will end up being their biggest yet. It's well on its way. And the more I think about it, "Last Day of Magic" has such amazing buzz from fans and critics alike that I think it could be become a hit. Operation "Sour Cherry" needs to escalate first however! Just wanted to post an awesome photo of the band, as they are both so enigmatically gorgeous on film:

"No Wow" live is amazing. They are already shaping up to be a cult hit due to all the promo. Who would have known that the person behind Gossip Girl's music is a fan?

^It's only because the sound mix doesn't do them any favors in a TV studio. Their Jools Holland performances were great, though.

I'm so jazzed (LOLZ) over how many people are getting into them now!
I hope they milk their newfound popularity just short of an iPod commercial, ha.

I'd like to add my two cents too lol. I downloaded their album a few days ago after seeing the huge buzz they have received here on Pulse. I'm happy to say Midnight Boom has not only met my expectations but exceeded them. I am in love with this album. <3
