I just bought this CD today based on the strength of "Sour Cherry" which I immediately fell in love with. I had reservations because I haven't listened to this type of music very much and wasn't sure if the CD was going to be accessible enough for me, but it was worth every penny- I've been playing it for three hours now and love it! It really makes some of the music I normally listen to seem generic and and passionless.
It's hard to pick my favorite songs after such a short time, but the songs I'm repeating (in addition to Sour Cherry) are U.R.A. Fever, Cheap and Cheerful (my current favorite- packs a lot of punch), Last Day of Magic, What New York Used to Be, Alphabet Pony, and Getting Down.

It's great to hear that you love it! I hope the band do some more US promo when they come back for their late summer/early fall US tour.

The video & single are out in September. I think this is a great choice; my favorite on the album, actually. Unmistakably beautiful, it displays a very different, subtle downtempo mode for them and yet it is ultimately both catchy enough to appeal to new fans (Gossip Girl viewers, lol?) and to still register with critics as one of the best performed rock ballads in a long time. I can see it going places. It's arguably (along with "Last Day of Magic") the best reviewed track on the album, and if it finds its audience, it could be massive. Plus, they will be back in the States then, so they can promote it! Great plan.

Go Black Balloon! I love the fact that they are releasing the album's slowly escalating epic as the 4th single.

MY FAVORITE ANNUAL PUBLICATION THAT RECOGNIZES THE COLLISION OF FASHION & MUSIC HAS ARRIVED!From WWD (the bible!): You know fashion week is just around the corner when Condé Nast’s annual Fashion Rocks supplement begins to arrive in mailboxes. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Condé Nast Media Group program that includes the annual magazine, concert and television special. The magazine, helmed by editorial director Anna Wintour and editor in chief Jonathan Van Meter, today begins its rollout with subscriber copies of Vogue, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Glamour, Details and 11 other Condé Nast titles. Justin Timberlake is this year’s cover model. The pop star, actor and fashion designer wore a tuxedo jacket from his own line, William Rast, in the photo by Craig McDean. Other musicians profiled and photographed in the issue include Beyoncé Knowles, shot by Jean-Baptiste Mondino; Mariah Carey and Dhani Harrison by Steven Meisel; Usher and the Black Eyed Peas by Norman Jean Roy; Steve Coogan by Anton Corbijn; Mark Ronson by Terry Richardson, and London rock band The Kills by Anni!e Leibovitz*. Martin Schoeller snapped Keith Urban and Zooey Deschanel, and André 3000 discusses his new clothing line, Benjamin Bixby, in a four-page spread shot by David Vasiljevic. While Citi, Cover Girl, Chevrolet, Nivea, Kohl’s and Verizon all packed multiple pages of advertising in the issue, Richard Beckman, president of Condé Nast Media Group, said ad pages were flat with last year’s edition. The 170-page magazine is a precursor to the Fashion Rocks concert Sept. 5 at Radio City Music Hall, which airs on CBS four days later. I can't wait 'til I get it! I subscribe to Vogue, so I automatically get it for free.

STORY TIME. I went to this great festival and well the Kills were playing. We got there early so I was in the front front front. They were fucking.perfect. They didn't let me down a t a l l . Magnetic. Energetic. FULL of personality. I can't even describe how captivating they are. THEN they did a signing! So I powerwalk from the front row to the Archambault tent and they were pretty far apart! And I get in the line like, 5th or something. I was seriously impressing myself fanboy-wise. And people had Midnight Boom and the festival's program to sign and I had my Edie bag and they were all like 'what the hell...' Then I get to the table, show the bag and Jamie&Alison go 'awwwww!!!' and start drawing hearts around Edie and writing 'Jamie Loves Edie' and I was vair vair proud of myself.

That pic of VV leaning into the camera is pure fierceness! God, I need to see them again now. I'm so happy that you got to meet them, Phil! Everyone thinks their aloofness stems from vanity, but they are very shy and sweet in person.

P.S. Did Jamie "whack" his guitar towards Alison's head during "Fried My Little Brains"? It's a near miss, every time. And the repartee is so effective, every time. Alison moves so cool during that song, too. No one else can writhe like that! :o

Sometimes I wish I lived in the US. That pic of VV leaning into the camera is pure fierceness! God, I need to see them again now. I'm so happy that you got to meet them, Phil! Everyone thinks their aloofness stems from vanity, but they are very shy and sweet in person. They DID seem shy! During the set they barely talked but that I had read about... (Jamie even said 'if you've seen us before, you'd know right now we're being very talkative' which made everyone laugh.) but during the signing they were very sweet. P.S. Did Jamie "whack" his guitar towards Alison's head during "Fried My Little Brains"? It's a near miss, every time. And the repartee is so effective, every time. Alison moves so cool during that song, too. No one else can writhe like that! :o Oh other surprise - they didn't do Fried My Little Brains! Ugh now I want to see it. I hope they come back to Montreal for a full-length show soon... I'm still kicking myself for missing them in May. But the way she moves, during the whole show, is crazy captivating.

A full list I made of notable Kills' rarities: I'M SEEKING:- U.R.A. Fever Instrumental - Cheap & Cheerful Instrumental - Old Child (w/ Dionysos)- Sugar Baby (Fried My Little Brains B-Side) - Jewel Thief (also FMLB B-side) I also found a Peel session version! - Superpowerless (Last Day of Magic B-Side)- Venus In Furs cover (does it actually exist? - it's from an acoustic session) have it! :o In return I can offer almost any other Kills' rarity, including:- Run Home Slow - Passion Is Accurate - The Void - Kiss The Wrong Side - Magazine - Baby's Eyes - I Call It Art - Night Train - The Search For Cherry Red - Half Of Us - Hit Me When U 1-2 - Black Rooster EP (which features Dropout Boogie & Gum) - Run Home Slow EP (RHS + PIA + 2 remixes) - Various other remixes Anyway, if anyone could help me out, that would be amazing (but doubtful). The hunt for Kills' b-sides is astonishingly archaic, which is frustrating but kind of cool. P.S. Belated but did you ever see the LDOM cover?

Their three song set on Live From Abbey Road was brilliant this week. It hasn't aired on Sundance yet, but it's already available on demand. Along with Sara Borefest & the Fratellis... speaking of which the episode this week with Elbow, MGMT, & Alanis M. is currently airing on Sundance now.

ALL THE RARITIES EVER IN ONE FILE.Took two hours to upload! Tell me, children, what are your favorite Kills' b-sides, specialty tracks, etc? Right now I'm really into "Kiss The Wrong Side" (UBER Clinic), "Superpowerless" (UBER Garbage), and "Old Child" with Dionysos (UBER Gallic black magic). Thank heaven for the Kills! Oh, yeah - I'm working on a style profile of Alison Mosshart. Excited!
