yeah, i also have no clue who any of them are. it sucks being one of the youngest ones here who is completely ignorant about Country music before 2000. i started listening to Country in 2004 when "Live Like You Were Dying" was #1 and i was 11. so now 4 years later i am 15 and know much more about Country music but still not much before my Country Music lifespan.
it would be cool to see what song was #1 when i was born. where would you find that out at? 11/25/92 if you have the link handy at the moment :)

^Alabama was spending the first of their 2 weeks at number one with their fine song (and IMO, a classic one at that,) "I'm In A Hurry (And Don't Know Why)."

Today's Country Birthdays: Jimmy Fortune (Statler Brothers) (1955) 53 years old
Chart Highlights: Jimmy Fortune replaced Lew DeWitt in 1983 and since that time Jimmy was involved in several #1's: Elizabeth (1984), My Only Love (1985), and Too Much on My Heart (1985). I owned the first album featuring Jimmy (album entitled Today). and his tenor voice was a great addition to the group.
I failed to mention that on March 8th. was the anniversay of Lew DeWitt's birth. Lew died on 8/15/1990 at the age of 52. Do You Know You Are My Sunshine (1978 2weeks @#1) was the group's greatest hit

Today's Country Birthdays: Jerry Jeff Walker (1942) 66 years old Ray Benson (Asleep At the Wheel) (1951) 57 years old
Chart Highlights: Born Ronald Clyde Crosby in New York State, Jerry Jeff Walker established himself as a prolific songwriter in Texas. He was a major influence in the early 'Outlaw' movement of the early 1970 s. Although his charted appearances were few (8 spmgs_. his musical influences still resounds today. As for his limited chart appearances, his first single, Jaded Love (1976 #54) was his highest achievement.
The group more known for thier revival of Wester Swing, Asleep At the Wheel's lead singer, Ray Benson has lead the group to 19 charted singles. The Letter That Johnny Walker Read (1975 #10) was their only T10 hit. Much like Jerry Jeff Walker, Asleep At the Wheels' success goes beyond the country music charts. Sometimes it's not just the charts that brings success to those who perform the music.

Jerry is also know for acting iwth Burt Reynolds in the Smokey and the Bandit films of the late 70's.

Ranger Doug, and the rest of the members of The Riders in the Sky, also never charted but have anostalgic stance about the early cowboy song of the 1930's and 1940's. They perform on the Grand Old Opry and mix in a sense of humor in their shows.
Jimmy Seales, former guitarist for the R&B group Funkadelic, played on all the singles by Shenandoah. Next To You, Next To Me (1990 3 weeks @#1) was their career topper. Of their 26 charted singles, 16 went top ten and most of those were in the early 1990's.

Today's Country Birthdays: Ronnie McDowell (1950) 58 years old Dean Dillon (1955) 53 years old Charly McClain (1956) 52 years old Kenny Chesney (1968) 40 years old
Chart Highlights Ronnie McDowell got his start on the country chart with the Elvis tribute song, The King Is Gone (1977 #13, Pop #13). However it wasn't until 1983 when he had his biggest hit, You're Gonna Ruin My Bad Reputation (1983 #1). His late charted song was Unchained Melody (1990 #26).
Known more for his songwriting, Dean Dilion had some appearances on the country chart. Many artists have recored Dean's songs. George Strait took Dean's Nobody In His RIght Mind (Would've Left Her) to #1 in 1986. Ironically that same song is Dean's best charted song as a singer. Dean's version peaked at #25 in 1981. Another songs that Dean placed on the chart, Famous Last Words of a Fool (1983 #67), George also to this song to #1 in 1988.
Charly McClain, born Charlotte) charted between 1976-1989. Her first T10 appearance was with the song That's What You Do To Me (1978 #8) and her career took off. Know for the #1 hit Who's Cheatin' Who in 1981, Charly and only two other Number ones. Paradise Tonight (1983), with Mickey Gilley and her biggest hit was Radio Heart (1985).
And yes, Kenny Chesney turns 40 today, and do you remember his first charted song? Whatever It Takes debuted on the charts on 12/18/1993 and peaked at #59. The song comes from an album entitled In My Wildest Dreams and I'm sure it's a collector's item for sure! As for the charted success since that debut single, the number of hits is endless. Currently, with George Strait, they peak at #2 with Shiftwork and Kenny debuts this week with Better As A Memory at #47. When the Sun Goes Down (2004 #1) with Uncle Kracker jumps out as one of Kenny's best duet effort. The Good Stuff (2002) and There Goes My Life (2003) are two songs that each spent 7 weeks at #1.

Today's Country Birthdays: Charlie McCoy (1941) 67 years old Reba McEntire (1955) 53 years old Rodney Atkins (1969) 39 years old
Chart Highlights Noted session musician, Charlie McCoy charted between 1972-1983, yet his best charted single was his first, I Started Loving You Again (1972 #16).
Today's 'Queen' of Country Music, Reba McEntire has done much to forward the popularity of country music. Her countless duets, television program, movies, Broadway and videos have brought new fans with every new adventure. And by the way, she sings pretty good too! Reba has charted 61 singles and it is difficult to pick a top single, yet chartwise, it is a duet (or trio depending how you look at it) to rank as her best. If You See Him/If You See Her (with Brooks & Dunn) went to #1 in 1998.
Some saw Rodney Atkins as a newcomer back in 2006 but did you know he charted many years before then. His first single (which you can still find online), In A Heartbeat went to #74 in 1997. However it took five years later to see him chart regularly. Do you remember, Sing Along (2002 #37), My Old Man (2002 #36) and Honesty (Write Me A List) (2004 #4) and Someone to Share It With (2004 #41)? Then 2006, Rodney exploded on the chart and has constantly hit #1, If You're Going Through Hell (2006), Watching You, These Are My People (2007) Clelaning This Gun (Come On In Boy) (2008). Most sucessful single, take your pick!

He charted 20 singles and as far as I know had four songs that consecutively peaked at #10: Slow And Easy (1978), No Sleep Tonight his most successful hit spending 17 weeks on the chartj(1978), Fall in Love With Me Tonight (1979_ and Sweet Melinda (1979).
Regina Leigh one have of the duo with Regina Nicks formed Regina Regina. They only had ONE single, More Than I Wanted Top Know (1997 #53).
Brady Seals was a member of LIttle Texas and now with Hot Apple Pie. He is related to Troy & Dan Seals and the late Johnny Duncan. Brady charted 8 singles between 1974-1980. Easy (1975 #76) was the highest ranked among the eight.
