Remembering Those born Today: Kenny Price (May 27, 1931 - August 4, 1987) 56 years old Kenny is remembered for being on Hee Haw and known as "The Round Mound of Sound" Kenny placed 34 singles between 1966-1980. His debut single was his highest, Walking On New Grass (1966 #7). He followed that up with Happy Tracks (1967 #7). Kenny primarily charted on the lower end of the T40 or below that. Kenny died of a heart attack in 1987.
Today's Country Birthdays: Don Williams (1939) 69 years old "The Gentle Giant" Don Williams first charted in 1972 and for the next 20 years he placed 56 singles: 52 hit the T40, 45 hit the T10, and he went to #1 17 times. Of those 17 number ones, I Believe In You (1980) is his best known single which became a pop crossover that same year.
Jace Everette (1972) 36 years old That's the Kind of Love I'm In (2005 #52) is Jace's only T60 hit to date.

Remembering Those Born Today: Gary Stewart (5/28/1944 - 12/16/2003) 59 years Between 1973-1989 Gary Stewart placed 30 singles on the charts. Most of his singles were in the 1970's. In 1975, Gary has his only #1 single, She's Actin' SIngle (I'm Drinkin' Doubles). Gary had only two other T10 singles: Out Of Hand (1975 #4) and Drinkin' Thing (1974 #10). Sadly in 2003, Gary committed suicide at the age of 59.
Today's Country Birthdays: Phil Vassar (1965) 43 years old Singer-Songwriter Phil Vassar has been charting since 1999 with his debut single Carlene (2000 #5). Phil's most successful charted single was his 2004 hit, In A Real Love which spent two weeks at the top. Currently he is fighting Brad Paisley for the top spot with Love Is A Beatiful Thing (2008) currently at number two.

Today's Country Birthdays: Danny Davis (1925) 83 years old Big Band leader George Nowlan (aka Danny Davis) played in 1940's popular big bands before the group Danny Davis & The Nashville Brass in 1968. The group featured lush string section and a horn section. Their music was to take popular country songs and play them as instrumentals. Their only T40 release was Night Life (1980 #20) with Willie Nelson as vocalist.

Today's Country Birthdays: Wynonna Judd (1964) 44 years old Christina Ciminella (aka Wynonna Judd), along with her mother, Diana Ellen Judd (aka Naomi) began charting in late 1983 with Had A Dream (For the Heart) (1984 #17). From then on, they were a constant appearance on the charts for the next 7 years. After Had a Dream, the Judds had eight consecutive number one singles and in that stretch, Have Mercy (1985) was their most successful. After 1991 when Wynonna began her solo career, the Judds had on more single in 2000, Stuck in Love (#26).
As a solo artist, Wynonna started off where the Judds continued, with three number ones in a row. The third of these three, No One Else On Earth (1992) is her biggest number one hit. Wynonna's most recent single was Attitude (#40) in 2005.

Remembering Those Born Today: Johnny Paycheck (5/31/1938 - February 18, 2003) Donald Lytle (aka Johnny Paycheck) placed 60 singles between 1965 - 1989. His first T10 was The Lovin' Machine (1966 #8). Johnny's only #1 was the working man's anthem Take This Job And Shove It (1978) which spent 2 weeks at number one. After that success, he only had two more T10 singles; Friend, Lover, Wife (1978 #7), and the Chuck Berry remake, Maybelline (1979 #7) with George Jones. In 1985, Johnny was sent to prison for a shooting incident and pretty much is singing career had ended. The metaphorical song, Old Violin (1986 #21) describes the feeling of being sent to prison. Johnny died from emphysema in 2003.
Today's Country Birthdays: Ed Adkins (The Derailers) (1967) 41 years old. Ed plays bass for the Texas based group and their only charted single was The Right Place (1999 #71).

I was all set to post for June 1st., then 'the problem' happened on these boards. Glad we are back up and running! Currently at work and away from my books, so I'll just give a quick run down on the birthdays for these three days.
June ist. Ronnie Dunn (Brooks and Dunn) (1953) 55 years old Lead singer of the duo who has charted since 1991. Their biggest hit was Ain't Nothin' 'Bout You (2001). Currently on the charts with Put A Girl In It (2008 #20).
Lisa Hartman Black (1956) 52 years old Lisa married Clint Black and they charted some duets together in the late 1990's and early 2000's.
Richard Comeaux (River Road) (1961)47 years old. River Road had a few singles that charted in the 1990's.
June 2nd. Dan Cahoon (Marshall Dyllon) (1983) 25 years old The group Marshall Dyllon had a few singles in the early 2000's but nothing had charted within the T40.
June 3rd. Jamie O'Neal (1968) 40 years old Jamie has recorded in this decade and her biggest hit was There Ain't No Arizona (2001 #1). Her most recent hit was God Don't Make Mistakes (2007) which failed to hit the T40.

Remembering Those Born Today: Freddy Fender (June 4, 1937 - June 29, 2007) 70 years Born Baldemar Huerta, Freddy Fender became a regular on the country chart and crossed over to be a household name on the pop charts. From 1975-1983, Freddy first charted with the CMA Single of the Year, Before the Next Teardrop Falls (1975 #1, Pop #1) and career took off. He followed up his debut single with the most successful single on the country chart with Wasted Days And Wasted Nights (1975 #1, Pop #8). Of Freddy's 21 total charted singles, 16 of them hit the T40, 8 went T10 and he had four number ones. Many of the singles Freddy released were previous pop/rock hits, such as, You'll Lose A Good Thing (1976)(originally recorded by Barbara Lynn 1962), Since I Met You Baby (1975 #10)(Ivory Joe Hunter in 1956), Secret Love(1975 #1) (Doris Day 1954), Vaya Con Dios(1976 #7)(Les Paul & Mary Ford 1953), The Rains Came(1977 #4)(Sir Douglas Quintet 1966), Talk To Me(1978 #13)(Little Willie John 1958), I'm Leaving It All Up To You(1978 #26)(Dale & Grace 1963) and Squeeze Box(1979 #61)(The WHO 1976).
Freddy lost his battle with cancer in 2007.

Don Reid (The Statler Brothers) (1945) 63 years old The Statler Brothers placed 66 singles on the country chart between 1965-1990. They had 59 T40 hits, of those 33 went to T10 and of those 4 went to number one. Do You Know You Are My Sunshine (1978 #1) was the greatest of all their hits.
Gail Davies (1948) 60 years old Patricia Gail Dickenson (aka Gail Davies), first charted in 1978 with No Love Have I (#26) and then placed a total of 22 singles on the country chart. Gail's biggest hit was with the Ray Price remake, I'll Be There (If You Ever Want Me)(1981 #4). In 1986, Gail formed the group Wild Choir and they only had two singles, and Heart To Heart went to #40 in that same year.
Brett James (1968) 40 Years old Brett placed 5 singles between 1995-2003. Chasin' Amy (2002 #34) is his most successful single so far.

Lisa Brokop (1973) 35 years old Canadian Lisa Brokop first charted in 1994, however had never hit the Top 40. Take That (1995#52) is her highest position of her nine singles.

Remembering Those Born Today: Wynn Stewart (June 7, 1934 - July 17, 1985) 51 years Wynnford Stewart charted between 1956-1985 and placed 31 singles on the country chart. Wynn placed 6 songs in the T10 but had only one number one hit. It's Such A Pretty World Today (1967). Wynn died of a heart attack at 51 in 1985.
Today's Country Birthdays: Tom Jones (1940) 68 years old Thomas Jones Woodward (aka Tom Jones) who became a pop star and famous for the song What's New Pussycat? crossed over into country music had 16 singles between 1976 - 1985. The very first song he placed, Say You'll Stay Until Tomorrow (1977) shot up to number one and was his biggest hit on the country chart. Tom also charted with the Big Al Downing Hit Touch Me (I'll Be Your Fool Once More)(1983 #4), his only other T10 hit.
Larry Boone (1956) 52 years old His biggest hit was Don't Give Candy To A Stranger (1988 #10). Larry charted between 1986-1993.

Today's Country Birthdays: Bonnie Tyler (1953) 55 Years old This is the case of a pop singer releasing two singles on the country chart.
Wales born Gaynor Hopkins (aka Bonnie Tyler) had a big pop hit with the original It's A Heartache in 1978. The song went #3 on the pop chart and #10 on the country chart. Her country follow-up was My Guns Are Loaded (1979 #86).

Thom Schuyler (1952) 56 years old Songwriter, singer Thom Schuyler charted two singles in 1983. Brave Heart peaked at number 43. Yet his most successful chart run was when he was with the trio, Schuyler, Knobloch & Overstreet. Their biggest hit was their only number one, Baby's Got A New Baby (1987). WHen Pual Overstreet left the trio and Craig Bickhardt join, the trio had their second biggest hit, Givers ANd Takers (1988 #8).

Today's Country Birthdays: Billy 'Crash" Craddock (1939) 69 years old Known as "Mr. Country Rock", Billy "Crash" Craddock charted 41 singles between 1971-1989. Thirty-Five of his 41 singles hit the T40, of those 19 went tot he T10 and three of those went stright to the top. Rub It In (1974 #1 for 2 weeks) is his most recognized single.
Susan Haynes (1972) 36 years old Susan's only appearance was with Drinkin' In My SUnday Dress (2006 #51).

Remembering Those born Today: Lester Flatt (June 14, 1914 - May 11, 1979) 64 years Lester Flatt played guitar and Earl Scruggs banjo as the duo is most famous for the theme song of the televison show "The Beverly Hillbillies". The program's theme song, The Ballad of Jed Clampett, spent 3 weeks at #1 in 1963. They also charted with the theme song to another televison show, Petticoat Junction. This theme song peak at #14 in 1964. Lester died in 1979 but Earl Svruggs is still living.

Remembering Those born Today: Waylon Jennings (June 15, 1937 - February 13, 2002) 64 years. Waylon's first exposure to the music business was playing in Buddy Holly's band and gave up his plane seat which later would have killed him. The plane crashed killing Buddy, Ritchie Vallens and the Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson).
Waylon's first country chart appearance was with the song, That's The Chance I'll Have To Take (1965 #49). The following year his single, (That's What You Get) For Loving Me (1966 #9) became his first T10. However it was eight years later before Waylon would have his first number one, This Time (1974). The 'Outlaw' genre was beginning around this time and when Waylon hooked up with Willie Nelson, then both men's popularity soared. Good Hearted Woman (1976 #1) is the same song that Waylon released as a solo in 1972 but got as far as number three, went to the top with Willie. Waylon's biggest hit came in 1977 with Luckenbach, Texas (Back To the Basics Of Love), and the song spent 6 weeks at #1. (Willie does a cameo at the end of the song).
In 1985, Waylon was part of the mega-group, The Highwayman, and the title of the group. The Highwayman consisted of Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristiofferson. The song Highwayman spent one week at number one in 1985, and it was their biggest hit. Waylon has had other duet partners in his career among them, his wife Jessi Colter, Hank Williams Jr., Jerry Reed, Johnny Cash, John Anderson, and David Lynn Jones. Waylon charted 100 singles and his last single was If I Can Find A Clean Shirt (1991 #51). Waylon left us too early and died in 2003.
Today's Country Birthdays: Terri Gibbs (1954) 54 years old The first CMA Horizon Award winner, Terri Gibbs was born blind, however this did not stop her to become a successful performer. Terri's first single was also a pop smash and her most success ful. Somebody's Knockin' (1980 #8) also went to #13 on the pop chart. All total, Terri placed 13 singles between 1980-1987.

Remembering Those born Today: Red Foley (June 17, 1910 - September 19, 1968) 58 years Clyde Foley performed on radio from 1930-37 on the WLS National Barn Dance and on television on the Ozark Jubilee program from 1954-1960. Red's first singles became his most successful, Smoke on the Water (1944 #1 for 13 weeks). Red was teamed up with Ernest Tubb and they had popular hits. Goodnight Irene (1950 #1) was their highest single. In 1954, Red was also teamed up with Kitty Wells, and their first single also went to #1, One By One (1954). Red charted 65 singles in his career. Red died from a heart attack in 1968.
David "Stringbean" Akeman (June 17, 1916 - November 10, 1973) 57 years. Comedian banjo musician who appeard on the program Hee Haw. Tragically killed in a robbery taken place after his performance on the Grand Ole Opry. David was the tall thin performer and thus known as "Stringbean".

Today's Country Birthdays: Doug Stone (1956) 52 years old Doug Brooks (aka Doug Stone), has placed 22 singles between 1992-2000. He changed his name to not be confused with Garth Brooks. Of all his singles, 18 hit the T40, 15 hit the T10 and 4 fo those hit #1. A Jukebox With A Country Song (1992) is his most successful #1 single. Doug's first hit was, I'd Be Better Off (In A Pine Box) (1990 #4) and his last charted hit was Surprise (2000 #64).

Today's Country Birthdays: Anne Murray (1945) 63 years old. Nova Scotia born, Mona Anne Murray made her first appearance on the country chart with Snowbird (1979 #10). Her appearances on The Glen Campbell Good Time Hour TV program in the early 1970's helped bring her crossover appeal. Her biggest hit came nine years later with I Just Fall In Love Again (1979 3 weeks @#1). Of her 54 singles Anne had 10 number one singles.
Chuck Wicks (1979) 29 years old Newcomer Chuck Wicks peaked earlier this year with Stealing Cinderella (2008 #5). Currently Chuck has taken All I Ever Wanted up to #33 and still on the chart.

Today's Country Birthdays: Leon Everette (1948) 60 years old Leon Everette Baughman charted 25 singles between 1975-1986. Among those Leon had 14 T40 hits, with half of those (7) making the T10. Leon had no #1 singles, however, he is best known for the song Hurricane (1981 #4).
Kathy Mattea (1959) 49 years Kathy Mattea was the CMA Female Vocalist of the year in 1989 & 1990. She has placed 38 singles. Her first single was Street Talk (1983 #25). Yet it was three years later when Kathy was able to break into the T10 for the first time with Love At The Five And Dime (1986 #3). Still she had to wait a year and a half before scoring her first #1 hit: Goin' Gone(1988 #1). In that same year, in fact, her next single: Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses (1988 #1) is her biggest and most know single. In 1989, Kathy had her last two number one hits: Come From the Heart and Burnin' Old Memories. A famous song does not necessarily have to make it to number one. Kathy's performance on Where've You Been (1990 #10) was enough to make that song Grammy winner for both Song and Country Female Vocal of the Year. Kathy's last T10 was Walking Away A winner (1994 #3) and that title seems to sum up her career. She hasn't charted since 2000 when the song BFD peaked at number 63.
Allison Moorer (1972) 36 years old The younger sister of Shelby Lynne, Allison released four singles from 1998-2001. Her final single, Think It Over (2001) was her best charted song and peaked at number 57.

Remembering Those born Today: Roy Drusky (June 22, 1930 - September 23, 2004) 74 years Before entering the music industry, Roy Drusky was studying veterinary medicine. However after placing 42 singles on the country chart, Roy's purpose in life was set. In January 1960, his first single, Another (1960 #2), was released. Among his 32 T40 hits, Roy had his only #1 hit as a result from a duet with Priscilla Mitchell. During the summer of 1965, Yes, Mr. Peters spent two weeks at number one. Roy died from emphysema in 2004.
Today's Country Birthdays: Kris Kristofferson (1936) 72 years old Former recipient of a Rhodes scholarship, Kris kristofferson is legendary as a songwriter. Kris had sung with former wife Rita Coolidge and also sung as a member of The Highwaymen. His solo singing career's biggest hit was in 1973 when Why Me(, Lord) peaked at number one. Kris also appeared in films including the movie version of the C.W. McCall's, Convoy (1977).

Remembering Those born Today: June Carter Cash (June 23, 1929 - May 15, 2003) 73 years Valerie June Carter daughter of the legendary A.P. and Maybelle Carter, June and her sisters were a part of the Carter Family. Pioneering family in country music history. On her own, June forged her own path into history. Here first charted single was with the comedy duo of Homer & Jethro. There song, Baby, It's Cold Outside peaked in 1949 at number nine.
June was first married to singer Carl Smith and their daughter is Carlene Carter. When June married Johnny Cash after they had been working together on stage and in the studio. Their first single was It Ain't Me Babe (1965 #4). Their most famous single was recorded and released as Jackson peaked at #2 in 1967. June was Johnny's pillar of strength and gave him inspiration. Sadly, June died of heart failure in 2003.
Today's Country Birthdays: Diane Trask (1940) 68 years. One of the first Australian singles to hit the American Country charts. Her biggest hit was Lean It All On Me (1974 #13).
Pake McEntire (1953) 55 years old. Dale McEntire (aka Pake) is the older brother of Reba McEntire and he had released two albums in 1986 and 1987. His first five singles were from his first album: Every Night (1986 #20), Bad Love (1986 #12), Heart vs. Heart [with Reba on harmony](1987 #25), Too Old to Grow Up Now (1987 #46). His second release was his most successful, Savin' My Love For You (1986 #3). Pake also has recored with his other sister, Susie, but never their songs never charted. I've seen their 45's on ebay.
