Well, of course the album in general (along with the song American Idiot) would be different, but if they did still have this same song, I think it'd still do well. Alot of people I know who arn't even into rock or anything similar love the song... I see what your saying, but the song wouldn't have existed. That song is part of the substance of the album, and the album is heaviliy based on hating on Bush.

But it does exist, and it isn't a gimmick song, and "September" will almost surely be a big followup if it's released. Exactly. Politics got it where it is - not quality rock. With or without Grammys theres no shot for a pop follow up either. Are you serious? There is nothing political about "BOBD"! I don't know why you can't understand this. And arguably, politics was the reason why "American Idiot" (song) didn't cross over.

I agree. Politics in any song would probably PREVENT it from getting played on pop radio.

If I'm wrong about its future I'm wrong.Β I've tried to find something about the album to like.Β Played it and cheered it on to my friends (cause my bro likes them) but after a while I concluded theres nothing about GD or the album I find stimulating.Β
Hey, its just my opinion.Β The good thing about message boards is theres a record of our opinions and theyr'e easy to judge after the fact.

Kellys bullet dropped and I have a feeling that this is pretty much done. Glad that it has hit top 10 on the hot 100 already!!

Ciara is only 200 (exactly) away from Mario, and has exactly twice the gain as Mario as of this update.
I see Ciara taking it this week, Kelly slows down soon, Kelly get's #1 for 1-2 weeks, Green Day takes over, and from there, who knows...
Notes:
Jesse McCartney +323 Destiny's Child +326 Numb/Encore -1 Get Right +201 Bowling For Soup +177 (despite huge takeoff) Lindsay Lohan +93 Candy Shop +172 Crossfade +131 (looking better)
Where did Crossfade get first time around?

Interesting that although Kelly is higher on the chart than Green Day AND has a bigger bullet, many aren't giving her a chance at number one, saying it will be Ciara then Green Day.
I agree with those who think Ciara will go for a week before falling off (possibly two), then Kelly will come in for a decent stay.

I think its because they think the Grammys will give the song a HUGE boost and Kelly will just be beaten out. I REALLY hope Kelly can go to #1, but her huge bullet cannot last for much longer and unfortunately, Ciara is looking strong still.

Exactly.Β Politics got it where it is - not quality rock.Β With or without Grammys theres no shot for a pop follow up either.Β Couldn't disagree with you more here. There will be one other crossover hit from this record, and it is "Wake Me Up When September Ends"Everyone loves a good pop ballad. This track is mellow, but has a deep, poignant message that'll resonate to many listeners, probably turn on a lot of waterworks as well. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Actually, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is quite political. The thing is, you have to hear the whole album in its entirety to understand how. And I can understand why there's many who haven't purchased or heard the album yet and don't think of it as political. But BOBD is a powerful metaphor on the record, a dark metaphor. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

This track is mellow, but has a deep, poignant message that'll resonate to many listeners, probably turn on a lot of waterworks as well. We all have opinions and I respect everyones. I didn't know much about GD before this album came out other than they were an odd phenom in the early 90s. Their last 2 albums completely missed my radar but my brother talked about them a lot although he didn't actually listen to them much (that I know of). This album hit a chord with me initially because of the antiwar statement but after that emotion faded the music fell flat as a pancake and I hid the cd under a shoebox in my closet so I wouldn't have to see it anymore. I bought "Kerplunk" and played it exactly once and tossed it. Its doesn't appeal to me at ALL. I love to hear social, cultural, and political bane in music but only from a good artists. Musicians and vocalists making a statement with mediocre music and vocals turns me OFF completley. I don't care for the musicality of GD.

Actually, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is quite political. The thing is, you have to hear the whole album in its entirety to understand how. Maybe so, but radio stations aren't playing the whole album, just the song. Taken alone, "BOBD" has no overt political material.

While its true that Green Day has the Grammys, Kelly may also get boosts from her appearences on both the Super Bowl and SNL. Althought neither of these shows are as musically influencial as the Grammys, I wouldnt rule out Kelly just yet.

How has the Grammy's effected the airplay charts in passed years? Anyone have examples? I know the sales charts are usually HIGHLY effected.

The Super Bowl (or, rather, a certain part of her anatomy that got exposed during the Super Bowl ;) ) gave Janet's "Just A Little While" a bit of a boost.Β Granted, the song ran out of gas awfully fast, but the airplay boost was there. And, yes, Norah's "Don't Know Why" is the only song I can think of off the top of my head that got a second wind due to Grammy buzz. I'd be awfully surprised if there weren't others.

It looks like Ciara might have a chance at #1 this week afterall. She's only 70 spins away. Mockingbird is continuing to drop and is down to +495 (i think it was over +900 last week). Avril is dropping faster than I expected, its dropping at -703 and is at #16. They better release the next single because the album is already out of the top 50 and if they want the album to sell atleast 3 million they need the next single now. And why hasn't Candy Shop taken off? It's bullet is only at +191, when it should easily be around +500 considering that its already top 10 at Rhythmic and almost top 20 at Urban (Greatest Gainer at both). I just wanna live looks like its done. Lala is down to #47 and is -803, hopefully it'll fall out of the top 50 by Sunday

Eminem can have many songs high up in the chart but I guess it isn't the same for 50 Cent.

I never though I'd say this, so it pains me that I am, but GO ASHANTI! Get into the Top 20 and knock J. Ho out before the final update!
I guess I just discovered that my contempt of Ashanti < my contempt of J. Lo
