I'm not really impressed with this at all. I think it's catchy, but it definitely didn't sound like first single material to me period. I'm hoping this is just an album track. I can't see it doing anything on Alternative, but would probably hit #1 on Pop.

I wasn't that impressed with "Believe" either as a first single and now that I have the album I realize there would be many better choices as a debut to show the world "This is what our new shit will sound like!" Nevertheless, I still think it's a great song that deserves the success that it's been getting. From AAR, I'd like to see a fast dancy or pop-punk song be released as a first single that I know they're capable of on both of their last albums, but this doesn't do it for me when thinking of the right choice.

And I just read on AbsolutePunk that this is indeed the first single. I guess I'll be turning to my two local Pop stations a little more frequently in the near future to hear this one.

This song is so insanely catchy! I love the chanting at the end! It makes me thrash around. I feel like everytime I hear it, I should be in an Irish pub somewhere in Southie, LOL. My friend who is married and 32 years old is obsessed with them (it started with an infatuation with Tyson but grew to a love of their music) and she still hasn't heard it in full and she was the one who got me into them, LOL. She is part of the fanclub and got a phone call from Nick telling her the song was ready but her computer is fraudulent and it won't work.

This is sorely disappointing. There's hardly any music to it. I'd be surprised if this makes the Top 20 on the Pop chart. It sounds like a throwaway b-side.
This band is painfully hit or miss.

Did "Gives You Hell" go for Alt or Active adds? Gee, why don't we just lock the topic or move it to the proper forum then?

Yeah; the song blows, and it's not even going for adds, so let's move it. (Somebody forgot to tell 89x about the not going for adds part though. .)

yeah, sorry I meant nothing did anything within the top 40, my fault for not clarifying that. Really though, this would be quite the surprise to go top 40 :o

Everyone in my school's been singing this.
I'm looking forward to getting the full album.
And I'm also really liking Mona Lisa (When the World Comes Down)

Don't like Mona Lisa (When the World Comes Down)...Boring, imo.
It would be pretty good if this could chart on Modern Rock...Definitely it has chance...The bullet increased a bit from yesterday...I'm surprised it's top 50 on Alternative...Gives You Hell is one of my top 10 songs of 2008...
(Yesterday)
52 48 ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS Gives You Hell 192 157 35 1.240
(Today)
52 48 ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS Gives You Hell 207 152 55 1.309
This song took a lot of time to grow on radio and digitally...Now it's becoming huge! It has a current peak of #50 on Hot 100.

Yes it did. "My Dirlty Little Secret" was Top 50 as well. You added an extraneous "My" and inexplicably added an L in the middle of "dirty." Oh yeah, plus the song was actually "Move Along." Shortly after "Dirty Little Secret" began its run on the Pop chart. EDIT: Holy shit. 5 minutes later, my Alternative station is playing "Dirty Little Secret" at the top of the hour's 5-song specialty program. Not that the show in question hasn't played it before during its 2 year existence, but aside from that, the station didn't touch this at the time and hasn't played an All-American Rejects song in regular rotation since "The Last Song" 5 years ago.

Should be #40 considering both "Believe" and "Bad Girlfriend" fell from the top 20 and are now recurrent!
It has a chance of becoming their third song to hit the Modern Rock chart and the first in around 5 years. :o
Its current peak on Hot 100 is #37.
It's #11 on iTunes top 100 songs.
:)
I love this song, but I'm really surprised it's getting so much airplay on alternative radio.

Well, they used to freeze the charts in place for a week at this time of year, which could be the reason why, but with no publicational home for the Mediabase data, there really isn't a reason to freeze these charts! Maybe they just need a software update.
I wish they'd use software to remove their recurrents because the humans (or perhaps, monkeys) that do it manually don't do a very good job.
