There were many R&B girl groups throughout the 90's that produced one memorable hit and disappeared. This is definitely Brownstone's. They had some other minor hits but their only other Top 40 hit peaked at #39.
This one has great gospel-ish vocals, a fantastic bass, and is a really great 90's R&B song.
This was the third single from their debut album, "From The Bottom Up".
"If You Love Me" also had some incredible remixes.
The Billboard Hot 100: #8 Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks: #2

I remember this song very well. I liked it alot when it came out. At that time R&B vocal groups were all over the radio. This song went top ten on my personal chart. But I don't remember hearing any other singles from them :(

I loved this song, made top ten on my personal chart too. Only hit #21 on CHR/Pop, but was a big hit on WFLZ.

This is pretty good. I probably saw the video for it when it was out and didn't even realize it.

I never really cared for it, although looking back, they did sound pretty good together.

GREAT song!!!! One of my personal favorites of the 90's. They also had a hit with "Grapevine" and a minor one with "Half of You". But nonetheless "If You Love Me" will go down as one of the greatest R&B hits ever.

I liked all of their singles, and this is probably my least favorite. "Grapevyne" and "5 Miles To Empty" are my favs, and their remake of "I Can't Tell You Why" is actually really good.
If nothing else, they did have amazing vocals. It's a shame they fell off so quickly.

I like it. It's unfortunate Brownstone didn't stick around for much longer. They were really underrated as a female R&B group and had plenty of talent, especially vocally.

Does anyone remember this R&B smash in 1995, which went on to be a hit on both the pop and Urban charts? I used to really love this song. One of the best R&B female group tracks that I've ever heard IMO. The song was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
It was by a trio named Browstone whose original members consisted of lead singer Nicci from Detroit, MI, Maxee from Guyana, South America (yay, this is the country my mom is from), and Mimi (of New Orleans, Lousiana).
I also loved their follow up hit which did pretty well on the Urban charts called "Grapevyne." I used to really love this song as well.
I remember being sad that Mimi left the group due to health problems. Then Nicci's college friend Kina later joined the group. Who went on to pursue a minor hit of her own in 97' called, "Girl From The Gutter."
I thought Brownstone represented one of the classiest R&B female acts in the 90's. I really liked them. They are so very missed.

Maxee released a few solo singles in the UK. They were really good, but they did nothing.

Brownstone was my group!! I loved their voices, harmonies, and Clark Sisters- like runs. They could just simply sing. I miss them.
"If You Love Me" was simply great, but my favorite from them was "Half Of You"

Rather forgettable.
Which song are we talking about now? I've already forgotten.

NOT a forgettable song, it's a classic. The vocals are some of the best of the 90s groups, truly... I LOVE this song.
I love the follow-up, Grapevyne, even more... AMAZING song. Great group.

Not bad. It's too bad an awful group like Destiny's Child had to come along and render groups like Brownstone obsolete. I've only heard this one song by them, but at least from what I've heard, Brownstone relied on great harmony and classy lyrics, while DC is all about image and stupidity. It's really sickening what the female vocal groups have produced lately.

What if Destiny's Child never had anymore hits after 'No, No, No' and Brownstone came back in 2000 and had hit after hit after hit?

Then much of the popular music today probably would have turned out a hell of a lot better.
