It's funny how posters with JoJo, Kat McPhee, and Carrie Underwood avatars hate the song. , dont generalize peeps, k tks With the promo coming up, we should expect the album dropping late May/Early June right?

It's funny how posters with JoJo, Kat McPhee, and Carrie Underwood avatars hate the song. This, for me, goes like with what eyeMax said about the whole moderator titles. I think everyone here sees someone with an avatar of someone they don't like and judges their post on that I know I do it, I'm guilty of seeing a Carrie (just an example, there are other instances in Brit/Mariah/Christina threads) avatar and immediately discrediting whatever negative statements they have towards Kelly, when really I shouldn't. It's also the reason that I don't like to use a Kelly avatar because even though she's my favorite artist I don't want people to judge my posts as being some sort of rabid "Kelbot" (whatever that means). You didn't really understand what I meant. I'm not judging their posts because I don't like the artist in their avatar, that's just dumb. What I meant is that people that are big fans of those poppy artists expected and wanted something poppy from Kelly as well. Obviously, they didn't get that. I'm not discrediting anyone, it's just what I've noticed.

I am hoping her second single is killer. I really don't like this song still, even after downloading on iTunes for a listen in HQ. :( But I didnt like Breakaway that much either I guess and that was the first single. If this one had a catchier chorus, I'd be all down with it. The lyrics are good though.

So was yesterday her biggest spin day yet (504)? That has to be a good sign, especially since it's the weekend.

I respect what you have to say about a catchier chorus, but I sometimes wonder if we're fair to artists these days. We put them in an awful narrow box. We say we don't like ballads any more. We say we want edgier, darker material. We say we don't like "bubblegum" pop, but then songs like "Girlfriend" and "Umbrella" are hits. We don't like Broadway-type music any more. We don't like a lot of the type of stuff that they sing on American Idol, for example. We also expect artists to write their own music in whole or in part. Genres like urban and country are specialized with some, but few cross-overs. But then when an artist like Kelly does gradually move away from pure pop into a somewhat different sound, we complain about that too. Like I said...it's a pretty narrow box we put people in. Maybe the problem is not the artists, but ourselves for having such limited tastes in music.

Thanks OUcultjam on both accounts! I knew yesterday was huge, first time on AT40 and 2 spins vs 1 for OHP. Today should be massive as well, I'm expecting 470ish over last weeks 300ish. The bullet should start rising up again. Focus OUcultjam makes that table herself, see my signature and PC ;) eyeMax, brilliant post. People need to remember moderators and admins ARE posters just like us. They are allowed to post in a normal fashion like us without it looking like they are 'babysitting' on a paticular fanbase lol, it should be rather a compliment that they prefer being in a Kelly threads vs the other artists - they don't always have to be 'on duty', they have feelings and thoughts too and like expressing em, thanks! LPL - I don't blame you , great post..I know how you feel. sometimes you just gotta make like Kelly Clarkson and Walk Awayβ’ ;) Its what I did when this thread got out of hand.

I'm happy to see the spins increasing on this song at a nice pace, even though her bullet seems to be going down, it's really just leveling off....can't wait to see what happens when the video is released next week!

Maybe the problem is not the artists, but ourselves for having such limited tastes in music. This point is moot. It's possible to move away from "pure pop" to a different sound without making music that is NOT GOOD. Trust me, it's possible for someone to not like this song and not have a limited taste in music. One reason I liked Kelly so much from her Breakaway era is that she made music that was universally liked. People that weren't usually fans of top 40 music generally loved "Since U Been Gone"... I would see people with all different musical tastes jamming out to the song at a dance party. Now she's making music that's not ejoyable for all musical tastes.

I wish people would stop acting like 'Never Again' is some out of the box edgy rock song. Its still very much a pop song. Just has a different attitude.

that remix is HAWT focus!! do songs get remixed by Jason Nivens a lot? He seems to have remixed a few of Kelly's last singles but I'm unfamiliar with him in general.
actually, I think there are quite a few people on this very board who hate every song Kelly's ever put out.
That's cuz SUBG was unexpected from Kelly and she helped make that song what it was.... it wasn't supposed to be that hard of a song judging from what Max Martin and Kelly herself have said. it was Kelly's idea to add the harder drums and guitars and it was her idea to amp up her vocals as well....It took people by surprise, just like Never Again has taken some people by surprise. It's not necessarily a bad thing to keep people guessing.
I'm not sure this statement can be made just yet. The song is only a few weeks old, people are just starting to hear it. It could turn out to be her biggest hit...only time will tell.

You can't judge her entire musical change by one song. Some of the songs on this album, including NA, were written before and during the Breakaway era, so nothing can be THAT drastic of a change.

Pink did the same. She proved a curve ball with every album. Got edgier in her 3rd album Try This, didnt sell as well but she grew as an artist and it was 10 times better than M!ss. I think Kelly will do the same.
She's making better music and growing into her own as an artist. If you dont like it, get over it because she's being herself and that's not a crime.

That's their freedom. Tons of artists have music that are "universally liked" but not liked by everyone. I don't think that term should be taken literally but more in the sense that people from different demographics (age-wise and even musical genre-wise, such as fans of rock and rap alike) might like it.
